This bug is triggered whenever hfs_brec_update_parent() needs to split the root node. The height of the btree is not increased, which leaves the new node orphaned and its records lost. It is not possible for this to happen on a valid hfs filesystem because the index nodes have fixed length keys. For reasons I ignore, the hfs module does have support for a number of hfsplus features. A corrupt btree header may report variable length keys and trigger this bug, so it's better to fix it. Linux kernel
============
There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
