This introduces the Cedrus VPU driver that supports the VPU found in Allwinner SoCs, also known as Video Engine. It is implemented through a V4L2 M2M decoder device and a media device (used for media requests). So far, it only supports MPEG-2 decoding. Since this VPU is stateless, synchronization with media requests is required in order to ensure consistency between frame headers that contain metadata about the frame to process and the raw slice data that is used to generate the frame. This driver was made possible thanks to the long-standing effort carried out by the linux-sunxi community in the interest of reverse engineering, documenting and implementing support for the Allwinner VPU. Linux kernel

There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
See Documentation/00-INDEX for a list of what is contained in each file.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
