e456cd37bc i2c: smbus: add SMBus Host Notify support
SMBus Host Notify allows a slave device to act as a master on a bus to
notify the host of an interrupt. On Intel chipsets, the functionality
is directly implemented in the firmware. We just need to export a
function to call .alert() on the proper device driver.

i2c_handle_smbus_host_notify() behaves like i2c_handle_smbus_alert().
When called, it schedules a task that will be able to sleep to go through
the list of devices attached to the adapter.

The current implementation allows one Host Notification to be scheduled
while an other is running.

1cf79db28e [media] rtl2832: change the i2c gate to be mux-locked
The root i2c adapter lock is then no longer held by the i2c mux during
accesses behind the i2c gate, and such accesses need to take that lock
just like any other ordinary i2c accesses do.

So, declare the i2c gate mux-locked, and zap the regmap overrides
that makes the i2c accesses unlocked and use plain old regmap
accesses. This also removes the need for the regmap wrappers used by
rtl2832_sdr, so deconvolute the code further and provide the regmap
handle directly instead of the wrapper functions.

This also happens to fix the deadlock described in

iio: imu: inv_mpu6050: Fix deadlock between i2c adapter lock and mpu lock

This deadlock occurs if the accel/gyro and the sensor on the auxiliary
I2C (in my setup it's an ak8975) are working at the same time.

Scenario:

      T1 T2
     ====				       ====
inv_mpu6050_read_fifo aux sensor op (eg. ak8975_read_raw)
        | |
mutex_lock(&indio_dev->mlock)           i2c_transfer
        | |
i2c transaction i2c adapter lock
        | |
i2c adapter lock i2c_mux_master_xfer
                                              |
                                        inv_mpu6050_select_bypass
                                              |
                                        mutex_lock(&indio_dev->mlock)

When we operate on an mpu sensor the order of locking is mpu lock
followed by the i2c adapter lock. However, when we operate the auxiliary
sensor the order of locking is the other way around.

...
----------8<----------

The reason this patch fixes the deadlock is that T2 does not grab the
i2c adapter lock until the very end (and grabs the newfangled i2c mux
lock where it previously grabbed the i2c adapter lock).

SMBus block commands are different to I2C block commands since

636752bcb5 i2c-i801: Enable IRQ for SMBus transactions
Add a new 'feature' to i2c-i801 to enable using PCI interrupts.
When the feature is enabled, then an isr is installed for the device's
PCI IRQ.

An I2C/SMBus transaction is always terminated by one of the following
interrupt sources: FAILED, BUS_ERR, DEV_ERR, or on success: INTR.

When the isr fires for one of these cases, it sets the ->status variable
and wakes up the waitq. The waitq then saves off the status code, and
clears ->status (in preparation for some future transaction).
The SMBus controller generates an INTR irq at the end of each
transaction where INTREN was set in the HST_CNT register.

No locking is needed around accesses to priv->status since all writes to
it are serialized: it is only ever set once in the isr at the end of a
transaction, and cleared while no interrupts can occur. In addition, the
I2C adapter lock guarantees that entire I2C transactions for a single
adapter are always serialized.

For this patch, the INTREN bit is set only for SMBus block, byte and word
transactions, but not for I2C reads or writes. The use of the DS
(BYTE_DONE) interrupt with byte-by-byte I2C transactions is implemented in
a subsequent patch.

The interrupt feature has only been enabled for COUGARPOINT hardware.
In addition, it is disabled if SMBus is using the SMI# interrupt.

14674e7011 i2c: Split I2C_M_NOSTART support out of I2C_FUNC_PROTOCOL_MANGLING

b5527a7766 i2c: Add SMBus alert support
SMBus alert support. The SMBus alert protocol allows several SMBus
slave devices to share a single interrupt pin on the SMBus master,
while still allowing the master to know which slave triggered the
interrupt.

This is based on preliminary work by David Brownell. The key
difference between David's implementation and mine is that his was
part of i2c-core, while mine is split into a separate, standalone
module named i2c-smbus. The i2c-smbus module is meant to include
support for all SMBus extensions to the I2C protocol in the future.

The benefit of this approach is a zero cost for I2C bus segments which
do not need SMBus alert support. Where David's implementation
increased the size of struct i2c_adapter by 7% (40 bytes on i386),
mine doesn't touch it. Where David's implementation added over 150
lines of code to i2c-core (+10%), mine doesn't touch it. The only
change that touches all the users of the i2c subsystem is a new
callback in struct i2c_driver (common to both implementations.) I seem

c7b25a9e96 i2c: Drop probe, ignore and force module parameters
The legacy probe and force module parameters are obsolete now, the
same can be achieved using the new_device sysfs interface, which is
both more flexible and cheaper (it is implemented by i2c-core rather
than replicated in every driver module.)

The legacy ignore module parameters can be dropped as well. Ignoring
can be done by instantiating a "dummy" device at the problematic
address.

This is the first step of a huge cleanup to i2c-core's i2c_detect
function, i2c.h's I2C_CLIENT_INSMOD* macros, and all drivers that made

There is sometimes a need for the ocores driver to add devices to the

i2c_register_board_info can not always be used, because the I2C devices
are not known at an early state, they could for instance be connected
on a I2C bus on a PCI device which has the Open Cores IP.

i2c_new_device can not be used in all cases either since the resulting
bus nummer might be unknown.

The solution is the pass a list of I2C devices in the platform data to
the Open Cores driver. This is useful for MFD drivers.

4735c98f84 i2c: Add detection capability to new-style drivers
Add a mechanism to let new-style i2c drivers optionally autodetect
devices they would support on selected buses and ask i2c-core to
instantiate them. This is a replacement for legacy i2c drivers, much
cleaner.

Where drivers had to implement both a legacy i2c_driver and a
new-style i2c_driver so far, this mechanism makes it possible to get
rid of the legacy i2c_driver and implement both enumerated and
detected device support with just one (new-style) i2c_driver.

Here is a quick conversion guide for these drivers, step by step:

* Delete the legacy driver definition, registration and removal.
Delete the attach_adapter and detach_client methods of the legacy
  driver.

* Change the prototype of the legacy detect function from
    static int foo_detect(struct i2c_adapter *adapter, int address, int kind);
  to
static int foo_detect(struct i2c_client *client, int kind,
    			  struct i2c_board_info *info);

* Set the new-style driver detect callback to this new function, and
set its address_data to &addr_data (addr_data is generally provided
  by I2C_CLIENT_INSMOD.)

* Add the appropriate class to the new-style driver. This is
typically the class the legacy attach_adapter method was checking
for. Class checking is now mandatory (done by i2c-core.) See
<linux/i2c.h> for the list of available classes.

* Remove the i2c_client allocation and freeing from the detect
function. A pre-allocated client is now handed to you by i2c-core,
  and is freed automatically.

* Make the detect function fill the type field of the i2c_board_info
structure it was passed as a parameter, and return 0, on success. If
  the detection fails, return -ENODEV.

The most confusing examples are that "Read Byte" isn't executed by

I2C block read is supported since the ICH5. I couldn't get it to work
using the block buffer, so it's using the old-style byte-by-byte mode
for now.

Note: I'm also updating the driver author... The i2c-i801 driver was
really written by Mark Studebaker, even though he based his work on
the i2c-piix4 driver which was written by Philip Edelbrock.

60693e5a9a i2c-piix4: Fix SB700 PCI device ID
We find that SB700 and SB800 use the same SMBus device ID as SB600, which is
0x4385, instead of the already submitted 0x4395.

Besides removing the wrong SB700 device ID, add SB800 support to kernel, by
renaming the PCI_DEVICE_ID_ATI_IXP600_SMBUS into
PCI_DEVICE_ID_ATI_SBX00_SMBUS.

7edcb9abb5 i2c-i801: Use the internal 32-byte buffer on ICH4+
Add an ability to utilize the internal SRAM buffer on ICH4
and newer host controllers to speed up execution of block operations.

I've split the code so that it is more clear which block transaction is
performed.

First of all the host controller's type is identified. isich4 is set when
we think that the controller has the internal buffer. Then, before every
block transaction, if isich4 is set, we attempt to enable the E32B bit in
SMBAUXCTL register.

4b2643d7d9 i2c: Fix the i2c_smbus_read_i2c_block_data() prototype
Let the drivers specify how many bytes they want to read with
i2c_smbus_read_i2c_block_data(). So far, the block count was
hard-coded to I2C_SMBUS_BLOCK_MAX (32), which did not make much sense.
Many driver authors complained about this before, and I believe it's
about time to fix it. Right now, authors have to do technically stupid
things, such as individual byte reads or full-fledged I2C messaging,
to work around the problem. We do not want to encourage that.

I even found that some bus drivers (e.g. i2c-amd8111) already
implemented I2C block read the "right" way, that is, they didn't
follow the old, broken standard. The fact that it was never noticed
before just shows how little i2c_smbus_read_i2c_block_data() was used,
which isn't that surprising given how broken its prototype was so far.

There are some obvious compatiblity considerations:
* This changes the i2c_smbus_read_i2c_block_data() prototype. Users
outside the kernel tree will notice at compilation time, and will
  have to update their code.
* User-space has access to i2c_smbus_xfer() directly using i2c-dev, so
the changed expectations would affect tools such as i2cdump. In order
to preserve binary compatibility, we give I2C_SMBUS_I2C_BLOCK_DATA
a new numeric value, and define I2C_SMBUS_I2C_BLOCK_BROKEN with the
old numeric value. When i2c-dev receives a transaction with the
old value, it can convert it to the new format on the fly.
