"There is a lot going on!
Core changes:
- A semantic change to handle pinmux and pinconf in explicit order
while up until now we depended on the semantic order in the device
tree. The device tree is a functional programming language and does
not imply any order, so the right thing is for the pin control core
to provide these semantics.
- Add a new pinmux-select debugfs file which makes it possible to go
in and select functions for a pin manually (iteratively, at the
prompt) for debugging purposes.
- Fixes to gpio regmap handling for a new pin control driver making
use of regmap-gpio.
- Use octal permissions on debugfs files.
New drivers:
- A massive rewrite of the former custom pin control driver for MIPS
Broadcom devices to instead use the pin control subsystem. New pin
control drivers for BCM6345, BCM6328, BCM6358, BCM6362, BCM6368,
BCM63268 and BCM6318 SoC variants are implemented.
- Support for PM8350, PM8350B, PM8350C, PMK8350, PMR735A and PMR735B
in the Qualcomm PMIC GPIO driver. Also the two GPIOs on PM8008 are

- Support for Mediatek MTK8195.

"This time very little driver changes but lots of core changes.
We have some interesting cooperative work for ARM and Intel alike,
making the GPIO subsystem more and more suitable for industrial
systems and the like, in addition to the in-kernel users.
We touch driver core (device properties) and lib/* by adding one
simple string array free function, these are authored by Andy
Shevchenko who is a well known and recognized core helpers maintainers
so this should be fine.
We also see some Android GKI-related modularization in the MXC
drivers.
Core changes:
- The big core change is the updated (v2) userspace character device
API.
This corrects badly designed 64-bit alignment around the line
events. We also add the debounce request feature. This echoes the
often quotes passage from Frederick Brooks "The mythical man-month"
to always throw one away, which we have seen before in things such
as V4L2. So we put in a new one and deprecate and obsolete the old
one.
- All example tools in tools/gpio/* are migrated to the new API to
set a good example. The libgpiod userspace library has been
augmented to use this new API pretty much from day 1.
- Some misc API hardening by using strn* function calls has been
added as well.
- Use the simpler IDA interface for GPIO chip instance enumeration.
- Add device core function for counting string arrays in device
properties.
- Provide a generic library function kfree_strarray() that can be
used throughout the kernel.
Driver enhancements:
- The DesignWare dwapb-gpio driver has been enhanced and now uses the
IRQ handling in the gpiolib core.
- The mockup and aggregator drivers have seen some substantial code
clean-up and now use more of the core kernel inftrastructure.
- Misc cleanups using dev_err_probe().
- The MXC drivers (Freescale/NXP) can now be built modularized, which
makes modularized GKI Android kernels happy"

gpio: fixes for v5.9-rc7
- fix uninitialized variable in gpio-pca953x
- enable all 160 lines and fix interrupt configuration in gpio-aspeed-gpio
- fix ast2600 bank properties in gpio-aspeed
Currently, the aspeed-sgpio driver exposes up to 80 GPIO lines,
corresponding to the 80 status bits available in hardware. Each of these
lines can be configured as either an input or an output.
However, each of these GPIOs is actually an input *and* an output; we
actually have 80 inputs plus 80 outputs.
This change expands the maximum number of GPIOs to 160; the lower half
of this range are the input-only GPIOs, the upper half are the outputs.
We fix the GPIO directions to correspond to this mapping.
This also fixes a bug when setting GPIOs - we were reading from the
input register, making it impossible to set more than one output GPIO.
