ef66a1eace ibmvnic: Clear failover_pending if unable to schedule
Normally we clear the failover_pending flag when processing the reset.
But if we are unable to schedule a failover reset we must clear the
flag ourselves. We could fail to schedule the reset if we are in PROBING
state (eg: when booting via kexec) or because we could not allocate memory.

Thanks to Cris Forno for helping isolate the problem and for testing.

5e9eff5dfa ibmvnic: device remove has higher precedence over reset
Returning -EBUSY in ibmvnic_remove() does not actually hold the
removal procedure since driver core doesn't care for the return
value (see __device_release_driver() in drivers/base/dd.c
calling dev->bus->remove()) though vio_bus_remove
(in arch/powerpc/platforms/pseries/vio.c) records the
return value and passes it on. [1]

During the device removal precedure, checking for resetting
bit is dropped so that we can continue executing all the
cleanup calls in the rest of the remove function. Otherwise,
it can cause latent memory leaks and kernel crashes.

3f5ec374ae ibmvnic: merge do_change_param_reset into do_reset
Commit b27507bb59 ("net/ibmvnic: unlock rtnl_lock in reset so

solve the rtnl lock issue. Majority of the code in do_change_param_reset
duplicates do_reset. Also, we can handle the rtnl lock issue in do_reset
itself. Hence merge do_change_param_reset back into do_reset to clean up
the code.

1f45dc2206 ibmvnic: continue fatal error reset after passive init
Commit f9c6cea0b3 ("ibmvnic: Skip fatal error reset after passive init")
says "If the passive
CRQ initialization occurs before the FATAL reset task is processed,
the FATAL error reset task would try to access a CRQ message queue
that was freed, causing an oops. The problem may be most likely to
occur during DLPAR add vNIC with a non-default MTU, because the DLPAR
process will automatically issue a change MTU request.
Fix this by not processing fatal error reset if CRQ is passively
initialized after client-driven CRQ initialization fails."

The original commit skips a specific reset condition, but that does
not fix the problem it claims to fix, and misses a reset condition.
The effective fix is commit 0e435befae ("ibmvnic: fix NULL pointer
dereference in ibmvic_reset_crq") and commit a0faaa27c7 ("ibmvnic:
fix NULL pointer dereference in reset_sub_crq_queues"). With above
two fixes, there are no more crashes seen as described even without
the original commit, so I would like to revert the original commit.

a0c8be56af ibmvnic: fix login buffer memory leak
Commit 34f0f4e3f4 ("ibmvnic: Fix login buffer memory leaks") frees
login_rsp_buffer in release_resources() and send_login()
because handle_login_rsp() does not free it.
Commit f3ae59c0c0 ("ibmvnic: store RX and TX subCRQ handle array in
ibmvnic_adapter struct") frees login_rsp_buffer in handle_login_rsp().
It seems unnecessary to free it in release_resources() and send_login().
There are chances that handle_login_rsp returns earlier without freeing
buffers. Double-checking the buffer is harmless since
release_login_buffer and release_login_rsp_buffer will
do nothing if buffer is already freed.

c2af62256e ibmvnic: fix rx buffer tracking and index management in replenish_rx_pool partial success
We observed that in the error case for batched send_subcrq_indirect() the
driver does not account for the partial success case. This caused Linux to
crash when free_map and pool index are inconsistent.

Driver needs to update the rx pools "available" count when some batched
sends worked but an error was encountered as part of the whole operation.
Also track replenish_add_buff_failure for statistic purposes.

98025bce3a ibmvnic: notify peers when failover and migration happen
Commit 61d3e1d9bc ("ibmvnic: Remove netdev notify for failover resets")
excluded the failover case for notify call because it said
netdev_notify_peers() can cause network traffic to stall or halt.
Current testing does not show network traffic stall
or halt because of the notify call for failover event.
netdev_notify_peers may be used when a device wants to inform the
rest of the network about some sort of a reconfiguration
such as failover or migration.

It is unnecessary to call that in other events like
FATAL, NON_FATAL, CHANGE_PARAM, and TIMEOUT resets
since in those scenarios the hardware does not change.
If the driver must do a hard reset, it is necessary to notify peers.

Sukadev Bhattiprolu
1d85049374 powerpc/vnic: Extend "failover pending" window
Commit 5a18e1e0c1 introduced the 'failover_pending' state to track
the "failover pending window" - where we wait for the partner to become
ready (after a transport event) before actually attempting to failover.
i.e window is between following two events:

        a. we get a transport event due to a FAILOVER

        b. later, we get CRQ_INITIALIZED indicating the partner is
           ready at which point we schedule a FAILOVER reset.

and ->failover_pending is true during this window.

If during this window, we attempt to open (or close) a device, we pretend
that the operation succeded and let the FAILOVER reset path complete the
operation.

This is fine, except if the transport event ("a" above) occurs during the
open and after open has already checked whether a failover is pending. If
that happens, we fail the open, which can cause the boot scripts to leave
the interface down requiring administrator to manually bring up the device.

This fix "extends" the failover pending window till we are _actually_
ready to perform the failover reset (i.e until after we get the RTNL
lock). Since open() holds the RTNL lock, we can be sure that we either
finish the open or if the open() fails due to the failover pending window,
we can again pretend that open is done and let the failover complete it.

We could try and block the open until failover is completed but a) that
could still timeout the application and b) Existing code "pretends" that
failover occurred "just after" open succeeded, so marks the open successful
and lets the failover complete the open. So, mark the open successful even
if the transport event occurs before we actually start the open.

8fc3672a8a ibmvnic: fix ibmvnic_set_mac
Jakub Kicinski brought up a concern in ibmvnic_set_mac().
ibmvnic_set_mac() does this:

	ether_addr_copy(adapter->mac_addr, addr->sa_data);
	if (adapter->state != VNIC_PROBED)
		rc = __ibmvnic_set_mac(netdev, addr->sa_data);

So if state == VNIC_PROBED, the user can assign an invalid address to
adapter->mac_addr, and ibmvnic_set_mac() will still return 0.

The fix is to validate ethernet address at the beginning of
ibmvnic_set_mac(), and move the ether_addr_copy to
the case of "adapter->state != VNIC_PROBED".

2) drivers/net/dsa/microchip/ksz9477.c, overlapping changes.

36a782fdcc ibmvnic: Harden device Command Response Queue handshake
In some cases, the device or firmware may be busy when the
driver attempts to perform the CRQ initialization handshake.
If the partner is busy, the hypervisor will return the H_CLOSED
return code. The aim of this patch is that, if the device is not
ready, to query the device a number of times, with a small wait
time in between queries. If all initialization requests fail,
the driver will remain in a dormant state, awaiting a signal
from the device that it is ready for operation.

9f13457377 ibmvnic fix NULL tx_pools and rx_tools issue at do_reset
At the time of do_rest, ibmvnic tries to re-initalize the tx_pools
and rx_pools to avoid re-allocating the long term buffer. However
there is a window inside do_reset that the tx_pools and
rx_pools were freed before re-initialized making it possible to deference
null pointers.

This patch fix this issue by always check the tx_pool
and rx_pool are not NULL after ibmvnic_login. If so, re-allocating
the pools. This will avoid getting into calling reset_tx/rx_pools with
NULL adapter tx_pools/rx_pools pointer. Also add null pointer check in

f3ae59c0c0 ibmvnic: store RX and TX subCRQ handle array in ibmvnic_adapter struct
Currently the driver reads RX and TX subCRQ handle array directly from
a DMA-mapped buffer address when it needs to make a H_SEND_SUBCRQ
hcall. This patch stores that information in the ibmvnic_sub_crq_queue
structure instead of reading from the buffer received at login. The
overall goal of this patch is to parse relevant information from the
login response buffer and store it in the driver's private data
structures so that we don't need to read directly from the buffer and
can then free up that memory.

in the driver's initialization process with device firmware,
confirming the available device queue resources to be utilized

release CRQ and enqueue a reset task for failover. If the passive

Fix this by not processing fatal error reset if CRQ is passively
initialized after client-driven CRQ initialization fails.

7d7195a026 ibmvnic: Do not process device remove during device reset
The ibmvnic driver does not check the device state when the device
is removed. If the device is removed while a device reset is being
processed, the remove may free structures needed by the reset,
causing an oops.

Fix this by checking the device state before processing device remove.

9aedc6e2f1 net/ethtool: Introduce link_ksettings API for virtual network devices
With the ethtool_virtdev_set_link_ksettings function in core/ethtool.c,
ibmveth, netvsc, and virtio now use the core's helper function.

Funtionality changes that pertain to ibmveth driver include:

  1. Changed the initial hardcoded link speed to 1GB.

  2. Added support for allowing a user to change the reported link
  speed via ethtool.

Functionality changes to the netvsc driver include:

  1. When netvsc_get_link_ksettings is called, it will defer to the VF
  device if it exists to pull accelerated networking values, otherwise
  pull default or user-defined values.

  2. Similarly, if netvsc_set_link_ksettings called and a VF device
  exists, the real values of speed and duplex are changed.

pSeries machines on POWER9 processors can run with the XICS (legacy)

b27507bb59 net/ibmvnic: unlock rtnl_lock in reset so linkwatch_event can run
Commit a5681e20b5 ("net/ibmnvic: Fix deadlock problem in reset")
made the change to hold the RTNL lock during a reset to avoid deadlock
but linkwatch_event is fired during the reset and needs the RTNL lock.
That keeps linkwatch_event process from proceeding until the reset
is complete. The reset process cannot tolerate the linkwatch_event
processing after reset completes, so release the RTNL lock during the
process to allow a chance for linkwatch_event to run during reset.
This does not guarantee that the linkwatch_event will be processed as
soon as link state changes, but is an improvement over the current code
where linkwatch_event processing is always delayed, which prevents
transmissions on the device from being deactivated leading transmit
watchdog timer to time-out.

Release the RTNL lock before link state change and re-acquire after
the link state change to allow linkwatch_event to grab the RTNL lock
and run during the reset.

e56e251566 ibmvnic: Add device identification to requested IRQs
The ibmvnic driver currently uses the same fixed name when using
request_irq, this makes it hard to parse when multiple VNIC devices are
available at the same time. This patch adds the unit_address as the device
identification along with an id for each queue.

The original idea was to use the interface name as an identifier, but it
is not feasible given these requests happen at adapter probe, and at this
point netdev is not yet registered so it doesn't have the proper name
assigned to it.

Commit 6e8ab30ec6 ("ibmveth: Add scatter-gather support"). This original
fix missed the error path where dma_unmap_page is wrongly called on the

6c5c748908 ibmvnic: Convert reset work item mutex to spin lock
ibmvnic_reset can create and schedule a reset work item from
an IRQ context, so do not use a mutex, which can sleep. Convert
the reset work item mutex to a spin lock. Locking debugger generated
the trace output below.
