Use pci_vpd_alloc() to dynamically allocate a properly sized buffer and
read the full VPD data into it.
This simplifies the code, and we no longer have to make assumptions about
VPD size.

Each completion ring entry has a valid bit to indicate that the entry
contains a valid completion event. The driver's main poll loop
__bnxt_poll_work() has the proper dma_rmb() to make sure the valid
bit of the next entry has been checked before proceeding further.
But when we call bnxt_rx_pkt() to process the RX event, the RX
completion event consists of two completion entries and only the
first entry has been checked to be valid. We need the same barrier
after checking the next completion entry. Add missing dma_rmb()
barriers in bnxt_rx_pkt() and other similar locations.

The 'imply' keyword does not do what most people think it does, it only
politely asks Kconfig to turn on another symbol, but does not prevent
it from being disabled manually or built as a loadable module when the

This is a recurring problem in many drivers, and we have discussed
it several times befores, without reaching a consensus. I'm providing
a link to the previous email thread for reference, which discusses
some related problems.
To solve the dependency issue better than the 'imply' keyword, introduce a
separate Kconfig symbol "CONFIG_PTP_1588_CLOCK_OPTIONAL" that any driver
can depend on if it is able to use PTP support when available, but works
fine without it. Whenever CONFIG_PTP_1588_CLOCK=m, those drivers are
then prevented from being built-in, the same way as with a 'depends on
PTP_1588_CLOCK || !PTP_1588_CLOCK' dependency that does the same trick,
but that can be rather confusing when you first see it.
Since this should cover the dependencies correctly, the IS_REACHABLE()
hack in the header is no longer needed now, and can be turned back
into a normal IS_ENABLED() check. Any driver that gets the dependency
wrong will now cause a link time failure rather than being unable to use
PTP support when that is in a loadable module.
However, the two recently added ptp_get_vclocks_index() and
ptp_convert_timestamp() interfaces are only called from builtin code with
ethtool and socket timestamps, so keep the current behavior by stubbing
those out completely when PTP is in a loadable module. This should be
addressed properly in a follow-up.
As Richard suggested, we may want to actually turn PTP support into a
'bool' option later on, preventing it from being a loadable module
altogether, which would be one way to solve the problem with the ethtool
interface.

skbs are freed on error and not put on the ring. We may, however,
be in a situation where we're freeing the last skb of a batch,
and there is a doorbell ring pending because of xmit_more() being
true earlier. Make sure we ring the door bell in such situations.
Since errors are rare don't pay attention to xmit_more() and just
always flush the pending frames.
The busy case should be safe to be left alone because it can
only happen if start_xmit races with completions and they
both enable the queue. In that case the kick can't be pending.

We can't take the tx lock from the napi poll routine, because
netpoll can poll napi at any moment, including with the tx lock
already held.
The tx lock is protecting against two paths - the disable
path, and (as Michael points out) the NETDEV_TX_BUSY case
which may occur if NAPI completions race with start_xmit
and both decide to re-enable the queue.
For the disable/ifdown path use synchronize_net() to make sure
closing the device does not race we restarting the queues.
Annotate accesses to dev_state against data races.
For the NAPI cleanup vs start_xmit path - appropriate barriers
are already in place in the main spot where Tx queue is stopped
but we need to do the same careful dance in the TX_BUSY case.

All kernel devlink implementations call to devlink_alloc() during
initialization routine for specific device which is used later as
a parent device for devlink_register().
Such late device assignment causes to the situation which requires us to
call to device_register() before setting other parameters, but that call
opens devlink to the world and makes accessible for the netlink users.
Any attempt to move devlink_register() to be the last call generates the
following error due to access to the devlink->dev pointer.

The current maximum RX ring size is defined assuming the RX jumbo ring
(aka aggregation ring) is used. The RX jumbo ring is automicatically used
when the MTU exceeds a threshold or when rx-gro-hw/lro is enabled. The RX
jumbo ring is automatically sized up to 4 times the size of the RX ring
size.
The BNXT_MAX_RX_DESC_CNT constant is the upper limit on the size of the
RX ring whether or not the RX jumbo ring is used. Obviously, the
maximum amount of RX buffer space is significantly less when the RX jumbo
ring is not used.
To increase flexibility for the user who does not use the RX jumbo ring,
we now define a bigger maximum RX ring size when the RX jumbo ring is not
used. The maximum RX ring size is now up to 8K when the RX jumbo ring
is not used. The maximum completion ring size also needs to be scaled
up to accomodate the larger maximum RX ring size.
Note that when the RX jumbo ring is re-enabled, the RX ring size will
automatically drop if it exceeds the maximum.

We currently store these page addresses and DMA addreses in static
arrays. On systems with 4K pages, we support up to 64 pages per
completion ring. The actual number of pages for each completion ring
may be much less than 64. For example, when the RX ring size is set
to the default 511 entries, only 16 completion ring pages are needed
per ring.
In the next patch, we'll be doubling the maximum number of completion
pages. So we convert to allocate these arrays as needed instead of
declaring them statically.

FW can report to driver via ASYNC event if it encountered an
invalid signal on any TSIO PIN. Driver will log this event
for the user to take corrective action.

Application will send ioctls to set/clear PPS pin functions
based on user input. This patch implements the driver
callbacks that will configure the TSIO pins using firmware
commands. After firmware reset, the TSIO pins will be reconfigured
again.

1PPS (One Pulse Per Second) is a signal generated either
by the NIC PHC or an external timing source.
Integrating the support to configure and use 1PPS using
the TSIO pins along with PTP timestamps will add Grand
Master capability to the 5750X family chipsets.
This patch initializes the driver data structures and
registers the 1PPS with kernel, based on the TSIO pins'
capability in the hardware. This will create a /dev/ppsX
device which applications can use to receive PPS events.
Later patches will define functions to configure and use
the pins.

During error recovery or hot firmware upgrade, the chip may be under
reset and the PHC register read cycles may cause completion timeouts.
Check that the chip is not under reset condition before proceeding
to read the PHC by checking the flag BNXT_STATE_IN_FW_RESET. We also
need to take the ptp_lock before we set this flag to prevent race
conditions.
We need this logic because the PHC now will stay registered after
bnxt_close().

It was pointed out by Richard Cochran that registering the PHC during
probe is better than during ifup, so move bnxt_ptp_init() back to
bnxt_init_one(). In order to work correctly after firmware reset which
may result in PTP config. changes, we modify bnxt_ptp_init() to return
if the PHC has been registered earlier. If PTP is no longer supported
by the new firmware, we will unregister the PHC and clean up.

Most users of ndo_do_ioctl are ethernet drivers that implement
the MII commands SIOCGMIIPHY/SIOCGMIIREG/SIOCSMIIREG, or hardware
timestamping with SIOCSHWTSTAMP/SIOCGHWTSTAMP.
Separate these from the few drivers that use ndo_do_ioctl to
implement SIOCBOND, SIOCBR and SIOCWANDEV commands.
This is a purely cosmetic change intended to help readers find
their way through the implementation.

We use the timecounter APIs for the 48-bit PHC and packet timestamps.
We must periodically update the timecounter at roughly half the
overflow interval. The overflow interval is about 78 hours, so
update it every 19 hours (1/4 interval) for some extra margins.

The current PTP initialization logic does not account for firmware
reset that may cause PTP capability to change. The valid pointer
bp->ptp_cfg is used to indicate that the device is capable of PTP
and that it has been initialized. So we must clean up bp->ptp_cfg
and free it if the firmware after reset does not support PTP.

The device needs to be in ifup state for PTP to function, so move
bnxt_ptp_init() to bnxt_open(). This means that the PHC will be
registered during bnxt_open().
This also makes firmware reset work correctly. PTP configurations
may change after firmware upgrade or downgrade. bnxt_open() will
be called after firmware reset, so it will work properly.
bnxt_ptp_start() is now incorporated into bnxt_ptp_init(). We now
also need to call bnxt_ptp_clear() in bnxt_close().

bnxt_half_open_nic() is called during during ethtool self test and is
protected by rtnl_lock. Firmware reset can be happening at the same
time. Only critical portions of the entire firmware reset sequence
are protected by the rtnl_lock. It is possible that bnxt_half_open_nic()
can be called when the firmware reset sequence is aborting. In that
case, bnxt_half_open_nic() needs to check if the ABORT_ERR flag is set
and abort if it is. The ethtool self test will fail but the NIC will be
brought to a consistent IF_DOWN state.
Without this patch, if bnxt_half_open_nic() were to continue in this
error state, it may crash like this:

Only pass supported VLAN protocol IDs for stripped VLAN tags to the
stack. The stack will hit WARN() if the protocol ID is unsupported.
Existing firmware sets up the chip to strip 0x8100, 0x88a8, 0x9100.
Only the 1st two protocols are supported by the kernel.

When bnxt_open() fails in the firmware reset path, the driver needs to
gracefully abort, but it is executing code that should be invoked only
in the success path. Define a function to abort FW reset and
consolidate all error paths to call this new function.

ETS proportions are presented to HWRM_QUEUE_COS2BW_CFG as minimum
bandwidth constraints. Thus, zero is a legal value for a given TC.
However, if all the other TCs sum up to 100%, then at least one
hardware queue will starve, resulting in guaranteed TX timeouts.
Reject such nonsensical configurations.

If device is already disabled in reset path and PCI io error is
detected before the device could be enabled, driver could
call pci_disable_device() for already disabled device. Fix this
problem by calling pci_disable_device() only if the device is already
enabled.

Make sure that we disable each of the TX and RX queues in the TDMA and
RDMA control registers. This is a correctness change to be symmetrical
with the code that enables the TX and RX queues.

Setting the EXT_ENERGY_DET_MASK bit allows the port energy detection
logic of the internal PHY to prevent the system from sleeping. Some
internal PHYs will report that energy is detected when the network
interface is closed which can prevent the system from going to sleep
if WoL is enabled when the interface is brought down.
Since the driver does not support waking the system on this logic,
this commit clears the bit whenever the internal PHY is powered up
and the other logic for manipulating the bit is removed since it
serves no useful function.

Setup the TXBD to enable TX timestamp if requested. At TX packet DMA
completion, if we requested TX timestamp on that packet, we defer to
.do_aux_work() to obtain the TX timestamp from the firmware before we
free the TX SKB.

If the RX packet is timestamped by the hardware, the RX completion
record will contain the lower 32-bit of the timestamp. This needs
to be combined with the upper 16-bit of the periodic timestamp that
we get from the timer. The previous snapshot in ptp->old_timer is
used to make sure that the snapshot is not ahead of the RX timestamp
and we adjust for wrap-around if needed.

From the bnxt_timer(), read the 48-bit hardware running clock
periodically and store it in ptp->current_time. The previous snapshot
of the clock will be stored in ptp->old_time. The old_time snapshot
will be used in the next patches to compute the RX packet timestamps.

The Broadcom UniMAC MDIO bus from mdio-bcm-unimac module comes too late.
So, GENET cannot find the ethernet PHY on UniMAC MDIO bus. This leads

program invocations. However, the actual lifetime of the objects referred
by the XDP program invocation is longer, all the way through to the call to
xdp_do_flush(), making the scope of the rcu_read_lock() too small. This
turns out to be harmless because it all happens in a single NAPI poll
cycle (and thus under local_bh_disable()), but it makes the rcu_read_lock()
misleading.
Rather than extend the scope of the rcu_read_lock(), just get rid of it
entirely. With the addition of RCU annotations to the XDP_REDIRECT map
types that take bh execution into account, lockdep even understands this to
be safe, so there's really no reason to keep it around.

The Broadcom UniMAC MDIO bus from mdio-bcm-unimac module comes too late.
So, GENET cannot find the ethernet PHY on UniMAC MDIO bus. This leads

Resetting software indexes in bcm4908_dma_alloc_buf_descs() is not
enough as it's called during device probe only. Driver resets DMA on
every .ndo_open callback and it's required to reset indexes then.
This fixes inconsistent rings state and stalled traffic after interface
down & up sequence.

TQM fastpath ring needs to be sized to store both the requester
and responder side of RoCE QPs in TQM for supporting bi-directional
tests. Fix bnxt_alloc_ctx_mem() to multiply the RoCE QPs by a factor of
2 when computing the number of entries for TQM fastpath ring. This
fixes an RX pipeline stall issue when running bi-directional max
RoCE QP tests.

There is a missing bnxt_probe_phy() call in bnxt_fw_init_one() to
rediscover the PHY capabilities after a firmware reset. This can cause
some PHY related functionalities to fail after a firmware reset. For
example, in multi-host, the ability for any host to configure the PHY
settings may be lost after a firmware reset.

Jakub Kicinski pointed out that we need to handle ipv6 extension headers
and to explicitly check for supported tunnel types in
.ndo_features_check().
For ipv6 extension headers, the hardware supports up to 2 ext. headers
and each must be <= 64 bytes. For tunneled packets, the supported
packets are UDP with supported VXLAN and Geneve ports, GRE, and IPIP.

For UDP encapsultions, we only support the offloaded Vxlan port and
Geneve port. All other ports included FOU and GUE are not supported so
we need to turn off TSO and checksum features.

When the PF is no longer enforcing an assigned MAC address on a VF, the
VF needs to call bnxt_approve_mac() to tell the PF what MAC address it is
now using. Otherwise it gets out of sync and the PF won't know what
MAC address the VF wants to use. Ultimately the VF will fail when it
tries to setup the L2 MAC filter for the vnic.

Firmware previously only allowed promiscuous mode for VFs associated with
a default VLAN. It is now possible to enable promiscuous mode for a VF
having no VLAN configured provided that it is trusted. In such cases the
VF will see all packets received by the PF, irrespective of destination
MAC or VLAN.
Note, it is necessary to query firmware at the time of bnxt_promisc_ok()
instead of in bnxt_hwrm_func_qcfg() because the trusted status might be
altered by the PF after the VF has been configured. This check must now
also be deferred because the firmware call sleeps.

In the current code, the driver will not shutdown the link during
IFDOWN if there are still VFs sharing the port. Newer firmware will
manage the link down decision when the port is shared by VFs, so
we can just call firmware to shutdown the port unconditionally and
let firmware make the final decision.

Copy the phy related feature flags from the firmware call
HWRM_PORT_PHY_QCAPS to this new field. We can also remove the flags
field in the bnxt_test_info structure. It's cleaner to have all PHY
related flags in one location, directly copied from the firmware.
To keep the BNXT_PHY_CFG_ABLE() macro logic the same, we need to make
a slight adjustment to check that it is a PF.

In bnxt_rx_pkt(), the RX buffers are expected to complete in order.
If the RX consumer index indicates an out of order buffer completion,
it means we are hitting a hardware bug and the driver will abort all
remaining RX packets and reset the RX ring. The RX consumer index
that we pass to bnxt_discard_rx() is not correct. We should be
passing the current index (tmp_raw_cons) instead of the old index
(raw_cons). This bug can cause us to be at the wrong index when
trying to abort the next RX packet. It can crash like this:

The problem is that bnxt_show_temp() returns long but "rc" is an int
and "len" is a u32. With ternary operations the type promotion is quite
tricky. The negative "rc" is first promoted to u32 and then to long so
it ends up being a high positive value instead of a a negative as we
intended.
Fix this by removing the ternary.

of_get_mac_address() returns a "const void*" pointer to a MAC address.
Lately, support to fetch the MAC address by an NVMEM provider was added.
But this will only work with platform devices. It will not work with
PCI devices (e.g. of an integrated root complex) and esp. not with DSA
ports.
There is an of_* variant of the nvmem binding which works without
devices. The returned data of a nvmem_cell_read() has to be freed after
use. On the other hand the return of_get_mac_address() points to some
static data without a lifetime. The trick for now, was to allocate a
device resource managed buffer which is then returned. This will only
work if we have an actual device.
Change it, so that the caller of of_get_mac_address() has to supply a
buffer where the MAC address is written to. Unfortunately, this will
touch all drivers which use the of_get_mac_address().
Usually the code looks like:

This can then be simply rewritten as:

Sometimes is_valid_ether_addr() is used to test the MAC address.
of_get_mac_address() already makes sure, it just returns a valid MAC
address. Thus we can just test its return code. But we have to be
careful if there are still other sources for the MAC address before the
of_get_mac_address(). In this case we have to keep the
is_valid_ether_addr() call.
The following coccinelle patch was used to convert common cases to the
new style. Afterwards, I've manually gone over the drivers and fixed the
return code variable: either used a new one or if one was already
available use that. Mansour Moufid, thanks for that coccinelle patch!

During firmware recovery, VF-Rep configuration in the firmware is lost.

Add a new helper function __bnxt_free_one_vf_rep() to free one VF rep.
We also reintialize the VF rep fields to proper initial values so that
the function can be used without freeing the VF rep data structure. This
will be used in subsequent patches to free and recreate VF reps after
error recovery.

After probe is successful, interface may not be bought up in all
the cases and health register mapping could be invalid if firmware
undergoes reset. Fix it by invalidating the health register at the
end of probe. It will be remapped during ifup.

The retry loop in bnxt_try_recover_fw() should not abort when the
health register value is 0. It is a valid value that indicates the
firmware is booting up.

In bcm4908_enet_dma_alloc, if callee bcm4908_dma_alloc_buf_descs() failed,
it will free the ring->cpu_addr by dma_free_coherent() and return error.
Then bcm4908_enet_dma_free() will be called, and free the same cpu_addr
by dma_free_coherent() again.
My patch set ring->cpu_addr to NULL after it is freed in
bcm4908_dma_alloc_buf_descs() to avoid the double free.

Two enhancements:
1. Read the health status first before sending the first
HWRM_VER_GET message to firmware instead of the other way around.
This guarantees we got the accurate health status before we attempt
to send the message.
2. We currently only retry sending the first HWRM_VER_GET message to
the firmware if the firmware is in the process of booting. If the
firmware is in error state and is doing core dump for example, the
driver should also retry if the health register has the RECOVERING
flag set. This flag indicates the firmware will undergo recovery
soon. Modify the retry logic to retry for this case as well.

Once the chip goes through reset, the register mapping may be lost
and any read of the mapped health registers may return garbage value
until the registers are mapped again in the init path.
Reading BNXT_FW_RESET_INPROG_REG after firmware reset will likely
return garbage value due to the above reason. Reading this register
is for information purpose only so remove it.

During ifup, if the driver detects that firmware has gone through a
reset, it will go through a re-probe sequence. If the RDMA driver is
loaded, the re-probe sequence includes calling the RDMA driver to stop.
We need to set the BNXT_STATE_FW_RESET_DET flag earlier so that it is
visible to the RDMA driver. The RDMA driver's stop sequence is
different if firmware has gone through a reset.

The original intent here is to allow commands during reset to succeed
without error when the device is disabled, to ensure that cleanup
completes normally during NIC close, where firmware is not necessarily
expected to respond.
The problem with faking success during reset's PCI disablement is that
unrelated ULP commands will also see inadvertent success during reset
when failure would otherwise be appropriate. It is better to return
a different error result such that reset related code can detect
this unique condition and ignore as appropriate.
Note, the pci_disable_device() when firmware is fatally wounded in
bnxt_fw_reset_close() does not need to be addressed, as subsequent
commands are already expected to fail due to the BNXT_NO_FW_ACCESS()
check in bnxt_hwrm_do_send_msg().

In situations where FW has crashed, the bnxt_hwrm_do_send_msg() call
will have to wait until timeout for each firmware message. This
generally takes about half a second for each firmware message. If we
try to unload the driver n this state, the unload sequence will take
a long time to complete.
Improve this by checking the health register if it is available and
abort the wait for the firmware response if the register shows that
firmware is not healthy. The very first message HWRM_VER_GET is
excluded from this check because that message is used to poll for
firmware to come out of reset during error recovery.

In order to read the firmware health status, we first need to determine
the register location and then the register may need to be mapped.
There are 2 code paths to do this. The first one is done early as a
best effort attempt by the function bnxt_try_map_fw_health_reg(). The
second one is done later in the function bnxt_map_fw_health_regs()
after establishing communications with the firmware. We currently
only set fw_health->status_reliable if we can successfully set up the
health register in the first code path.
Improve the scheme by setting the fw_health->status_reliable flag if
either (or both) code paths can successfully set up the health
register. This flag is relied upon during run-time when we need to
check the health status. So this will make it work better.
During ifdown, if the health register is mapped, we need to invalidate
the health register mapping because a potential fw reset will reset
the mapping. Similarly, we need to do the same after firmware reset
during recovery. We'll remap it during ifup.

We want to change the current ndo_xdp_xmit drop semantics because it will
allow us to implement better queue overflow handling. This is working
towards the larger goal of a XDP TX queue-hook. Move XDP_REDIRECT error
path handling from each XDP ethernet driver to devmap code. According to
the new APIs, the driver running the ndo_xdp_xmit pointer, will break tx
loop whenever the hw reports a tx error and it will just return to devmap
caller the number of successfully transmitted frames. It will be devmap
responsibility to free dropped frames.

can be configured (the same way) to handle interrupts.
1. Make ring interrupts code generic (make it operate on given ring)
2. Move napi to ring (so each has its own)
3. Make IRQ handler generic (match ring against received IRQ number)

Ordinarily, a call to bnxt_setup_inta() (not in trace due to inlining)
would not be expected on a system supporting MSIX at all. However, if
bnxt_init_int_mode() does not end up being called after the call to
bnxt_clear_int_mode() in bnxt_fw_reset_close(), then the driver will
think that only INTA is supported and bp->irq_tbl will be NULL,
causing the above crash.
In the error recovery scenario, we call bnxt_clear_int_mode() in
bnxt_fw_reset_close() early in the sequence. Ordinarily, we will
call bnxt_init_int_mode() in bnxt_hwrm_if_change() after we
reestablish communication with the firmware after reset. However,
if the sequence has to abort before we call bnxt_init_int_mode() and
if the user later attempts to re-open the device, then it will cause
the crash above.
We fix it in 2 ways:
1. Check for bp->irq_tbl in bnxt_setup_int_mode(). If it is NULL, call
bnxt_init_init_mode().
2. If we need to abort in bnxt_hwrm_if_change() and cannot complete
the error recovery sequence, set the BNXT_STATE_ABORT_ERR flag. This
will cause more drastic recovery at the next attempt to re-open the
device, including a call to bnxt_init_int_mode().

The driver's error recovery reset sequence can take many seconds to
complete and only the critical sections are protected by rtnl_lock.
A recent change has introduced a regression in this sequence.
bnxt_remove_one() may be called while the recovery is in progress.
Normally, unregister_netdev() would cause bnxt_close_nic() to be
called and this would cause the error recovery to safely abort
with the BNXT_STATE_ABORT_ERR flag set in bnxt_close_nic().
Recently, we added bnxt_reinit_after_abort() to allow the user to
reopen the device after an aborted recovery. This causes the
regression in the scenario described above because we would
attempt to re-open even after the netdev has been unregistered.
Fix it by checking the netdev reg_state in
bnxt_reinit_after_abort() and abort if it is unregistered.

In ndo_stop functions, netdev_completed_queue() is called during forced
tx reclaim, after netdev_reset_queue(). This may trigger kernel panic if
there is any tx skb left.
This patch moves netdev_reset_queue() to after tx reclaim, so BQL can
complete successfully then reset.

The tg3 driver tried to communicate towards the PHY driver whether it
wanted RGMII in-band signaling enabled or disabled however there is
nothing that looks at those flags in drivers/net/phy/broadcom.c so this
does do not anything.

Some internal PHY's have their events like link change reported by the
MAC interrupt. We have PHY_IGNORE_INTERRUPT to deal with this scenario.
I'm not too happy with this name. We don't ignore interrupts, typically
there is no interrupt exposed at a PHY level. So let's rename it to
PHY_MAC_INTERRUPT. This is in line with phy_mac_interrupt(), which is
called from the MAC interrupt handler to handle PHY events.

Hardware comes up with default max frame size set to 1518. When using it
with switch it results in actual Ethernet MTU 1492:
1518 - 14 (Ethernet header) - 4 (Broadcom's tag) - 4 (802.1q) - 4 (FCS)
Above means hardware in its default state can't handle standard Ethernet
traffic (MTU 1500).
Define maximum possible Ethernet overhead and always set MAC max frame
length accordingly. This change fixes handling Ethernet frames of length
1506 - 1514.

We currently only log the error recovery settings if it is enabled.
In some cases, firmware disables error recovery after it was
initially enabled. Without logging anything, the user will not be
aware of this change in setting.
Log it when error recovery is disabled. Also, change the reset count
value from hexadecimal to decimal.

This is a new async message that the firmware can send to check if it
can communicate with the driver. This is an added error detection
scheme that firmware can use if it suspects errors in the PCIe
interface. When the driver receives this async message, it will reply
back echoing some data in the async message. If the firmware is not
getting the reply with the proper data after some retries, error
recovery will kick in.

If firmware provides the offset to the "context kind" field of the
relevant context memory blocks, we'll initialize just that field for
each block instead of initializing all of context memory.
Populate the bnxt_mem_init structure with the proper offset returned
by firmware. If it is older firmware and the information is not
available, we set the offset to an invalid value and fall back to
the old behavior of initializing every byte. Otherwise, we initialize
only the "context kind" byte at the offset.

Currently, the driver calls memset() to set all relevant context memory
used by the chip to the initial value. This can take many milliseconds
with the potentially large number of context pages allocated for the
chip.
To make this faster, we only need to initialize the "context kind" field
of each block of context memory. This patch sets up the infrastructure
to do that with the bnxt_mem_init structure. In the next patch, we'll
add the logic to obtain the offset of the "context kind" from the
firmware. This patch is not changing the current behavior of calling
memset() to initialize all relevant context memory.

During some fatal firmware error conditions, the PCI config space
register 0x2e which normally contains the subsystem ID will become
0xffff. This register will revert back to the normal value after
the chip has completed core reset. If we detect this condition,
we can poll this config register immediately for the value to revert.
Because we use config read cycles to poll this register, there is no
possibility of Master Abort if we happen to read it during core reset.
This speeds up recovery significantly as we don't have to wait for the
conservative min_time before polling MMIO to see if the firmware has
come out of reset. As soon as this register changes value we can
proceed to re-initialize the device.

Newer devices may have local context memory instead of relying on the
host for backing store. In these cases, HWRM_FUNC_BACKING_STORE_QCAPS
will return a zero entry size to indicate contexts for which the host
should not allocate backing store.
Selectively allocate context memory based on device capabilities and
only enable backing store for the appropriate contexts.

The running fw.psid version is in decimal format but the stored
fw.psid is in hex format. This can mislead the user to reset the
NIC to activate the stored version to become the running version.
Fix it to display the stored fw.psid in decimal format.

A TX queue can potentially immediately timeout after it is stopped
and the last TX timestamp on that queue was more than 5 seconds ago with
carrier still up. Prevent these intermittent false TX timeouts
by bringing down carrier first before calling netif_tx_disable().

Once the firmware fatal condition is detected, we should cease
comminication with the firmware and hardware quickly even if there
are many completion entries in the completion rings. This will
speed up the recovery process and prevent further I/Os that may
cause further exceptions.
Do not proceed in the NAPI poll function if fatal condition is
detected. Call napi_complete() and return without arming interrupts.
Cleanup of all rings and reset are imminent.

In the event of a fatal firmware error, firmware will notify the host
and then it will proceed to do core reset when it sees that all functions
have disabled Bus Master. To prevent Master Aborts and other hard
errors, we need to quiesce all activities in addition to disabling Bus
Master before the chip goes into core reset.

Up until now, we don't need to keep track of this state because NAPI
is always enabled once and disabled once during bring up and shutdown.
For better error recovery in subsequent patches, we want to quiesce
the device earlier during fatal error conditions. The normal shutdown
sequence will disable NAPI again and the flag will prevent disabling
NAPI twice.

Firmware may be in the middle of reset when the driver tries to do ifup.
In that case, firmware will return a special error code and the driver
will retry 10 times with 50 msecs delay after each retry.

Drawing a hard line on aborted resets prevents a NIC open in
some scenarios that may otherwise be recoverable. For example,
if a firmware recovery happened while a PF was down and an
attempt was made to bring up an associated VF in this state,
then it was impossible to ever bring up this VF without a
rebind or reload of its driver.
Attempt to reinitialize the firmware when an aborted reset (or
failed init after a reset) is discovered during open - it may
succeed. Also take care to allow the user to retry opening the
NIC even after an aborted reset.

Firmware is capable of generating asynchronous debug notifications.
The event data is opaque to the driver and is simply logged. Debug
notifications can be enabled by turning on hardware status messages
using the ethtool msglvl interface.

The timeout period for firmware messages is passed to the driver
from the firmware in the response of the first command. This
timeout period is multiplied by a factor for certain long
running commands such as NVRAM commands. In some cases, the
timeout period can become really long and it can cause hung task
warnings if firmware has crashed or is not responding. To avoid
such long delays, cap all firmware commands to a max timeout value
of 40 seconds.

If firmware is in reset or in bad state, it won't be able to return
VPD data. Move bnxt_vpd_read_info() until after bnxt_fw_init_one_p1()
successfully returns. By then we would have established proper
communications with the firmware.

The first HWRM_VER_GET message to firmware during probe may timeout if
firmware is under reset. This can happen during hot-plug for example.
On P5 and newer chips, we can check if firmware is in the boot stage by
reading a status register. Retry 5 times if the status register shows
that firmware is not ready and not in error state.

Add missing support for handling NO_MASTER crashes while ports are
administratively down (ifdown). On some SoC platforms, the driver
needs to assist the firmware to recover from a crash via OP-TEE.
This is performed in a similar fashion to what is done during driver
probe.

Updates to backing store APIs, QoS profiles, and push buffer initial
index support.
Since the new HWRM_FUNC_BACKING_STORE_CFG message size has increased,
we need to add some compat. logic to fall back to the smaller legacy
size if firmware cannot accept the larger message size. The new fields
added to the structure are not used yet.

When working on the PCI VPD code I also tested with a Broadcom BCM95719
card. tg3 uses internal NVRAM access with this card, so I forced it to
PCI VPD mode for testing. PCI VPD access fails
(i + PCI_VPD_LRDT_TAG_SIZE + j > len) because only TG3_NVM_VPD_LEN (256)
bytes are read, but PCI VPD has 400 bytes on this card.
So add a constant TG3_NVM_PCI_VPD_MAX_LEN that defines the maximum
PCI VPD size. The actual VPD size is returned by pci_read_vpd().
In addition it's not worth looping over pci_read_vpd(). If we miss the
125ms timeout per VPD dword read then definitely something is wrong,
and if the tg3 module loading is killed then there's also not much
benefit in retrying the VPD read.

When the FW tells the driver to retry the INSTALL_UPDATE command after
it has cleared the NVM area, the driver is not clearing the previously
used ALLOWED_TO_DEFRAG flag. As a result the FW tries to defrag the NVM
area a second time in a loop and can fail the request.

The function bnxt_get_ulp_stat_ctxs() does not count the stats contexts
used by the RDMA driver correctly when the RDMA driver is freeing the
MSIX vectors. It assumes that if the RDMA driver is registered, the
additional stats contexts will be needed. This is not true when the
RDMA driver is about to unregister and frees the MSIX vectors.
This slight error leads to over accouting of the stats contexts needed
after the RDMA driver has unloaded. This will cause some firmware
warning and error messages in dmesg during subsequent config. changes
or ifdown/ifup.
Fix it by properly accouting for extra stats contexts only if the
RDMA driver is registered and MSIX vectors have been successfully
requested.

UniMAC is a hardware block commonly used in Broadcom Ethernet controllers
that should get its own header file. Not every controller has it mapped at
the 0x800 offset so add bgmac access helpers. They will allow using
shared register defines.

The SYSTEMPORT driver maps each port of the embedded Broadcom DSA switch
port to a certain queue of the master Ethernet controller. For that it
currently uses a dedicated notifier infrastructure which was added in
commit 60724d4bae ("net: dsa: Add support for DSA specific notifiers").
However, since commit 2f1e8ea726 ("net: dsa: link interfaces with the
DSA master to get rid of lockdep warnings"), DSA is actually an upper of
the Broadcom SYSTEMPORT as far as the netdevice adjacency lists are
concerned. So naturally, the plain NETDEV_CHANGEUPPER net device notifiers
are emitted. It looks like there is enough API exposed by DSA to the
outside world already to make the call_dsa_notifiers API redundant. So
let's convert its only user to plain netdev notifiers.

It is a bit strange to see something as specific as Broadcom SYSTEMPORT
bits in the main DSA include file. Move these away into a separate
header, and have the tagger and the SYSTEMPORT driver include them.

We can increase the efficiency of rx path by using buffers to receive
packets then build SKBs around them just before passing into the network
stack. In contrast, preallocating SKBs too early reduces CPU cache
efficiency.
Check if we're in NAPI context when refilling RX. Normally we're almost
always running in NAPI context. Dispatch to napi_alloc_frag directly
instead of relying on netdev_alloc_frag which does the same but
with the overhead of local_bh_disable/enable.
Tested on BCM6328 320 MHz and iperf3 -M 512 to measure packet/sec
performance. Included netif_receive_skb_list and NET_IP_ALIGN
optimizations.

TQM rings are hardware resources that require host context memory
managed by the driver. The driver supports up to 9 TQM rings and
the number of rings to use is requested by firmware during run-time.
Cap this number to the maximum supported to prevent accessing beyond
the array. Future firmware may request more than 9 TQM rings. Define
macros to remove the magic number 9 from the C code.

A recent change skips sending firmware messages to the firmware when
pci_channel_offline() is true during fatal AER error. To make this
complete, we need to move the re-initialization sequence to
bnxt_io_resume(), otherwise the firmware messages to re-initialize
will all be skipped. In any case, it is more correct to re-initialize
in bnxt_io_resume().
Also, fix the reverse x-mas tree format when defining variables
in bnxt_io_slot_reset().

The current scheme allocates a DMA buffer as big as the requested
firmware package file and DMAs the contents to firmware in one
operation. The buffer size can be several hundred kilo bytes and
the driver may not be able to allocate the memory. This will cause
firmware upgrade to fail.
Improve the scheme by using smaller DMA blocks and calling firmware to
DMA each block in a batch mode. Older firmware can cause excessive
NVRAM erases if the block size is too small so we try to allocate a
256K buffer to begin with and size it down successively if we cannot
allocate the memory.

In bnxt_flash_package_from_fw_obj(), if firmware returns the NO_SPACE
error, call __bnxt_flash_nvram() to create the UPDATE directory and
then loop back and retry one more time.
Since the first try may fail, we use the silent version to send the
firmware commands.

On NICs with a smaller NVRAM, FW installation may fail after multiple
updates due to fragmentation. The driver can retry when FW returns
a special error code. To faciliate the retry, we restructure the
logic that performs the flashing in a loop. The actual retry logic
will be added in the next patch.

the firmware in a loop. To facilate that, we rearrange the code so
that the steps that only need to be done once before the loop will be
moved to the top of the function.

additional dir_item_len parameter. The new function will be used
in subsequent patches with the dir_item_len parameter set to create
the UPDATE directory during flashing.
