As per UEFI spec 2.8B section 8.2, EFI_UNSUPPORTED may be returned by
EFI variable runtime services if no variable storage is supported by
firmware. In this case, there is no point for kernel to continue
efivars initialization. That said, efivar_init() should fail by
returning an error code, so that efivarfs will not be mounted on
/sys/firmware/efi/efivars at all. Otherwise, user space like efibootmgr
will be confused by the EFIVARFS_MAGIC seen there, while EFI variable
calls cannot be made successfully.

As per ARM ARM DDI 0487G.a, when FEAT_LPA2 is implemented, ID_AA64MMFR0_EL1

range of values (depending on whether the field is signed or unsigned) now

The EFI_RT_PROPERTIES_TABLE contains a mask of runtime services that are
available after ExitBootServices(). This mostly does not concern the EFI
stub at all, given that it runs before that. However, there is one call
that is made at runtime, which is the call to SetVirtualAddressMap()
(which is not even callable at boot time to begin with)
So add the missing handling of the RT_PROP table to ensure that we only
call SetVirtualAddressMap() if it is not being advertised as unsupported
by the firmware.

Currently the EFI stub prints a diagnostic on boot saying that KASLR will
be disabled if it is unable to use the EFI RNG protocol to obtain a seed
for KASLR. With the addition of support for v8.5-RNG and the SMCCC RNG
protocol it is now possible for KASLR to obtain entropy even if the EFI
RNG protocol is unsupported in the system, and the main kernel now
explicitly says if KASLR is active itself. This can result in a boot
log where the stub says KASLR has been disabled and the main kernel says
that it is enabled which is confusing for users.
Remove the explicit reference to KASLR from the diagnostics, the warnings
are still useful as EFI is the only source of entropy the stub uses when
randomizing the physical address of the kernel and the other sources may
not be available.

With CONFIG_LTO_CLANG, we produce LLVM bitcode instead of ELF object
files. Since LTO is not really needed here and the Makefile assumes we
produce an object file, disable LTO for libstub.

Since commit 4466bf8282 ("efi/apple-properties: use
PROPERTY_ENTRY_U8_ARRAY_LEN"), my MacBook Pro issues a -ENODATA error
when trying to assign EFI properties to the discrete GPU:
pci 0000:01:00.0: assigning 56 device properties

That's because some of the properties have no value. They're booleans
whose presence can be checked by drivers, e.g. "use-backlight-blanking".
Commit 6e98503dba ("efi/apple-properties: Remove redundant attribute
initialization from unmarshal_key_value_pairs()") employed a trick to
store such booleans as u8 arrays (which is the data type used for all
other EFI properties on Macs): It cleared the property_entry's
"is_array" flag, thereby denoting that the value is stored inline in the
property_entry.
Commit 4466bf8282 erroneously removed that trick. It was probably a
little fragile to begin with.
Reinstate support for boolean properties by explicitly invoking the
PROPERTY_ENTRY_BOOL() initializer for properties with zero-length value.

Since commit 70e806e4e6 ("mm: Do early cow for pinned pages during
fork() for ptes") pages under a FOLL_PIN will not be write protected
during COW for fork. This means that pages returned from
pin_user_pages(FOLL_WRITE) should not become write protected while the pin
is active.
However, there is a small race where get_user_pages_fast(FOLL_PIN) can
establish a FOLL_PIN at the same time copy_present_page() is write

The first attempt to resolve this by using the write protect caused
problems (and was missing a barrrier), see commit f3c64eda3e ("mm: avoid
early COW write protect games during fork()")
Instead wrap copy_p4d_range() with the write side of a seqcount and check
the read side around gup_pgd_range(). If there is a collision then
get_user_pages_fast() fails and falls back to slow GUP.
Slow GUP is safe against this race because copy_page_range() is only
called while holding the exclusive side of the mmap_lock on the src
mm_struct.

EFI capsule loading is a feature that was introduced into EFI long after
its initial introduction on Itanium, and it is highly unlikely that IA64
systems are receiving firmware updates in the first place, let alone
using EFI capsules.
So let's disable capsule support altogether on IA64. This fixes a build
error on IA64 due to a recent change that added an unconditional
include of asm/efi.h, which IA64 does not provide.
While at it, tweak the make rules a bit so that the EFI capsule
component that is always builtin (even if the EFI capsule loader itself
is built as a module) is omitted for all architectures if the module is
not enabled in the build.

fwnode links by parsing the properties of a given fwnode.

Now that ARM started following the example of arm64 and RISC-V, and
no longer imposes any restrictions on the placement of the FDT in
memory at boot, we no longer need per-arch implementations of
efi_get_max_fdt_addr() to factor out the differences. So get rid of
it.

Since the UEFI 2.8A specification the UEFI enabled firmware provides a
configuration table EFI_RT_PROPERTIES_TABLE which indicates which runtime
services are enabled. The EFI stub reads this table and saves the value of
the field RuntimeServicesSupported internally.
The Firmware Test Suite requires the value to determine if UEFI runtime
services are correctly implemented.
With this patch an IOCTL call is provided to read the value of the field
RuntimeServicesSupported, e.g.

Scatter-gather lists passed to UpdateCapsule() should be cleaned
from the D-cache to ensure that they are visible to the CPU after a
warm reboot before the MMU is enabled. On ARM and arm64 systems, this
implies a D-cache clean by virtual address to the point of coherency.
However, due to the fact that the firmware itself is not able to map
physical addresses back to virtual addresses when running under the OS,
this must be done by the caller.

Don't use the heavy-weight kmap() API to create short-lived mappings
of the scatter-gather list entries that are released as soon as the
entries are written. Instead, use kmap_atomic(), which is more suited
to this purpose.

CONFIG_EFI_EARLYCON defaults to yes, and thus is enabled on systems that
do not support EFI, or do not have EFI support enabled, but do satisfy
the symbol's other dependencies.
While drivers/firmware/efi/ won't be entered during the build phase if
CONFIG_EFI=n, and drivers/firmware/efi/earlycon.c itself thus won't be
built, enabling EFI_EARLYCON does force-enable CONFIG_FONT_SUPPORT and
CONFIG_ARCH_USE_MEMREMAP_PROT, and CONFIG_FONT_8x16, which is
undesirable.
Fix this by making CONFIG_EFI_EARLYCON depend on CONFIG_EFI.
This reduces kernel size on headless systems by more than 4 KiB.

Efivars allows for overriding of SSDT tables, however starting with
commit
bf67fad19e ("efi: Use more granular check for availability for variable services")
this use case is broken. When loading SSDT generic ops should be set
first, however mentioned commit reversed order of operations. Fix this

The kernel uses ACPI Boot Error Record Table (BERT) to report fatal
errors that occurred in a previous boot. The MCA errors in the BERT are
reported using the x86 Processor Error Common Platform Error Record
(CPER) format. Currently, the record prints out the raw MSR values and
AMD relies on the raw record to provide MCA information.
Extract the raw MSR values of MCA registers from the BERT and feed them
into mce_log() to decode them properly.
The implementation is SMCA-specific as the raw MCA register values are
given in the register offset order of the SMCA address space.

Currently <crypto/sha.h> contains declarations for both SHA-1 and SHA-2,
and <crypto/sha3.h> contains declarations for SHA-3.
This organization is inconsistent, but more importantly SHA-1 is no
longer considered to be cryptographically secure. So to the extent
possible, SHA-1 shouldn't be grouped together with any of the other SHA
versions, and usage of it should be phased out.
Therefore, split <crypto/sha.h> into two headers <crypto/sha1.h> and
<crypto/sha2.h>, and make everyone explicitly specify whether they want
the declarations for SHA-1, SHA-2, or both.
This avoids making the SHA-1 declarations visible to files that don't
want anything to do with SHA-1. It also prepares for potentially moving
sha1.h into a new insecure/ or dangerous/ directory.

Generalize the efi_get_secureboot() function so not only efistub but also
other subsystems can use it.
Note that the MokSbState handling is not factored out: the variable is
boot time only, and so it cannot be parameterized as easily. Also, the
IMA code will switch to this version in a future patch, and it does not
incorporate the MokSbState exception in the first place.
Note that the new efi_get_secureboot_mode() helper treats any failures
to read SetupMode as setup mode being disabled.

The image_size argument to efi_relocate_kernel() is currently specified
as init_size, but this is unnecessarily large. The compressed kernel is
much smaller, in fact, its image only extends up to the start of _bss,
since at this point, the .bss section is still uninitialized.
Depending on compression level, this can reduce the amount of data
copied by 4-5x.

Instead of this historically problematic mess, this tree by Kees Cook (et al)
adds build time asserts and build time warnings if there's any orphan section
in the kernel or if a section is not sized as expected.
And because we relied on so many silent assumptions in this area, fix a metric
ton of dependencies and some outright bugs related to this, before we can
finally enable the checks on the x86, ARM and ARM64 platforms.

Add a RISC-V architecture specific stub code that actually copies the
actual kernel image to a valid address and jump to it after boot services
are terminated. Enable UEFI related kernel configs as well for RISC-V.

Nathan reports that building the new mokvar table code for 32-bit
ARM fails with errors such as
error: implicit declaration of function 'early_memunmap'
error: implicit declaration of function 'early_memremap'
This is caused by the lack of an explicit #include of the appropriate
header, and ARM apparently does not inherit that inclusion via another
header file. So add the #include.

CONFIG_EFI_VARS controls the code that exposes EFI variables via
sysfs entries, which was deprecated before support for non-Intel
architectures was added to EFI. So let's limit its availability
to Intel architectures for the time being, and hopefully remove
it entirely in the not too distant future.
While at it, let's remove the module alias so that the module is
no longer loaded automatically.

The worker thread that gets kicked off to sync the state of the
EFI variable list is only used by the EFI pstore implementation,
and is defined in its source file. So let's move its scheduling
there as well. Since our efivar_init() scan will bail on duplicate
entries, there is no need to disable the workqueue like we did
before, so we can run it unconditionally.

The EFI pstore implementation relies on the 'efivars' abstraction,
which encapsulates the EFI variable store in a way that can be
overridden by other backing stores, like the Google SMI one.
On top of that, the EFI pstore implementation also relies on the
efivars.ko module, which is a separate layer built on top of the
'efivars' abstraction that exposes the [deprecated] sysfs entries
for each variable that exists in the backing store.
Since the efivars.ko module is deprecated, and all users appear to
have moved to the efivarfs file system instead, let's prepare for
its removal, by removing EFI pstore's dependency on it.

- don't bother checking the end of the physical region against the start
address of the mokvar table,
- ensure that we enter the loop with err = -EINVAL,
- replace size_t with unsigned long to appease pedantic type equality

Currently, on arm64, we abort on any failure from efi_get_random_bytes()
other than EFI_NOT_FOUND when it comes to setting the physical seed for
KASLR, but ignore such failures when obtaining the seed for virtual
KASLR or for early seeding of the kernel's entropy pool via the config
table. This is inconsistent, and may lead to unexpected boot failures.
So let's permit any failure for the physical seed, and simply report
the error code if it does not equal EFI_NOT_FOUND.

Incorporate the definition of EFI_MEMORY_CPU_CRYPTO from the UEFI
specification v2.8, and wire it into our memory map dumping routine
as well.
To make a bit of space in the output buffer, which is provided by
the various callers, shorten the descriptive names of the memory
types.

Memory errors could be printed with incorrect row values since the DIMM
size has outgrown the 16 bit row field in the CPER structure. UEFI
Specification Version 2.8 has increased the size of row by allowing it to
use the first 2 bits from a previously reserved space within the structure.
When needed, add the extension bits to the row value printed.

At least some versions of Dell EFI firmware pass the entire
EFI_LOAD_OPTION descriptor, rather than just the OptionalData part, to
the loaded image. This was verified with firmware revision 2.15.0 on a
Dell Precision T3620 by Jacobo Pantoja.
To handle this, add a quirk to check if the options look like a valid
EFI_LOAD_OPTION descriptor, and if so, use the OptionalData part as the
command line.

Before commit
d0f9ca9be1 ("ARM: decompressor: run decompressor in place if loaded via UEFI")
we were rather limited in the choice of base address for the uncompressed
kernel, as we were relying on the logic in the decompressor that blindly
rounds down the decompressor execution address to the next multiple of 128
MiB, and decompresses the kernel there. For this reason, we have a lot of
complicated memory region handling code, to ensure that this memory window
is available, even though it could be occupied by reserved regions or
other allocations that may or may not collide with the uncompressed image.
Today, we simply pass the target address for the decompressed image to the
decompressor directly, and so we can choose a suitable window just by
finding a 16 MiB aligned region, while taking TEXT_OFFSET and the region
for the swapper page tables into account.
So let's get rid of the complicated logic, and instead, use the existing
bottom up allocation routine to allocate a suitable window as low as
possible, and carve out a memory region that has the right properties.
Note that this removes any dependencies on the 'dram_base' argument to
handle_kernel_image(), and so this is removed as well. Given that this
was the only remaining use of dram_base, the code that produces it is
removed entirely as well.

The way we use the base of DRAM in the EFI stub is problematic as it
is ill defined what the base of DRAM actually means. There are some
restrictions on the placement of FDT and initrd which are defined in
terms of dram_base, but given that the placement of the kernel in
memory is what defines these boundaries (as on ARM, this is where the
linear region starts), it is better to use the image address in these
cases, and disregard dram_base altogether.

Because of system-specific EFI firmware limitations, EFI volatile
variables may not be capable of holding the required contents of
the Machine Owner Key (MOK) certificate store when the certificate
list grows above some size. Therefore, an EFI boot loader may pass
the MOK certs via a EFI configuration table created specifically for
this purpose to avoid this firmware limitation.
An EFI configuration table is a much more primitive mechanism
compared to EFI variables and is well suited for one-way passage
of static information from a pre-OS environment to the kernel.
This patch adds initial kernel support to recognize, parse,
and validate the EFI MOK configuration table, where named
entries contain the same data that would otherwise be provided
in similarly named EFI variables.
Additionally, this patch creates a sysfs binary file for each
EFI MOK configuration table entry found. These files are read-only
to root and are provided for use by user space utilities such as
mokutil.
A subsequent patch will load MOK certs into the trusted platform
key ring using this infrastructure.

regresses UEFI platforms that implement GetVariable but not SetVariable
when booting kernels that have EFIBC (bootloader control) enabled.
The reason is that EFIBC is a user of the efivars abstraction, which was
updated to permit users that rely only on the read capability, but not on
the write capability. EFIBC is in the latter category, so it has to check
explicitly whether efivars supports writes.

On non-EFI systems, it wasn't possible to test the platform firmware
loader because it will have never set "checked_fw" during __init.
Instead, allow the test code to override this check. Additionally split
the declarations into a private symbol namespace so there is greater
enforcement of the symbol visibility.

In preparation for adding --orphan-handling=warn to more architectures,
disable -mbranch-protection, as EFI does not yet support it[1]. This was
noticed due to it producing unwanted .note.gnu.property sections (prefixed
with .init due to the objcopy build step).
However, we must also work around a bug in Clang where the section is
still emitted for code-less object files[2], so also remove the section
during the objcopy.

Eliminate all GOT entries in the decompressor binary, by forcing hidden
visibility for all symbol references, which informs the compiler that
such references will be resolved at link time without the need for
allocating GOT entries.
To ensure that no GOT entries will creep back in, add an assertion to
the decompressor linker script that will fire if the .got section has
a non-zero size.

Since commit 82046702e2 ("efi/libstub/arm64: Replace 'preferred' offset
with alignment check"), loading a relocatable arm64 kernel at a physical
address which is not 2MB aligned and subsequently booting with EFI will
leave the Image in-place, relying on the kernel to relocate itself early
during boot. In conjunction with commit dd4bc60765 ("arm64: warn on
incorrect placement of the kernel by the bootloader"), which enables
CONFIG_RELOCATABLE by default, this effectively means that entering an
arm64 kernel loaded at an alignment smaller than 2MB with EFI (e.g. using
QEMU) will result in silent relocation at runtime.
Unfortunately, this has a subtle but confusing affect for developers
trying to inspect the PC value during a crash and comparing it to the
symbol addresses in vmlinux using tools such as 'nm' or 'addr2line';
all text addresses will be displaced by a sub-2MB offset, resulting in
the wrong symbol being identified in many cases. Passing "nokaslr" on
the command line or disabling "CONFIG_RANDOMIZE_BASE" does not help,
since the EFI stub only copies the kernel Image to a 2MB boundary if it
is not relocatable.
Adjust the EFI stub for arm64 so that the minimum Image alignment is 2MB
unless KASLR is in use.

bf67fad19e ("efi: Use more granular check for availability for variable services")
introduced a check into the efivarfs, efi-pstore and other drivers that
aborts loading of the module if not all three variable runtime services
(GetVariable, SetVariable and GetNextVariable) are supported. However, this
results in efivarfs being unavailable entirely if only SetVariable support
is missing, which is only needed if you want to make any modifications.
Also, efi-pstore and the sysfs EFI variable interface could be backed by
another implementation of the 'efivars' abstraction, in which case it is
completely irrelevant which services are supported by the EFI firmware.
So make the generic 'efivars' abstraction dependent on the availibility of
the GetVariable and GetNextVariable EFI runtime services, and add a helper
'efivar_supports_writes()' to find out whether the currently active efivars
abstraction supports writes (and wire it up to the availability of
SetVariable for the generic one).
Then, use the efivar_supports_writes() helper to decide whether to permit
efivarfs to be mounted read-write, and whether to enable efi-pstore or the
sysfs EFI variable interface altogether.

32bit gcc doesn't support modulo operation on 64 bit data. It results in
a __umoddi3 error while building EFI for 32 bit.
Use bitwise operations instead of modulo operations to fix the issue.

For example, arch/arm64/lib/Makefile, arch/x86/purgatory/Makefile.
No problem report so far about hard-coding this option. So, we can
assume all supported compilers know -ffreestanding.
I confirmed GCC 4.8 and Clang manuals document this option.

No problem report so far about hard-coding this option. So, we can
assume all supported compilers know -fno-stack-protector.

When copying the setup_header into the boot_params buffer, only the data
that is actually part of the setup_header should be copied.
efi_pe_entry() currently copies the entire second sector, which
initializes some of the fields in boot_params beyond the setup_header
with garbage (i.e. part of the real-mode boot code gets copied into
those fields).
This does not cause any issues currently because the fields that are
overwritten are padding, BIOS EDD information that won't get used, and
the E820 table which will get properly filled in later.
Fix this to only copy data that is actually part of the setup_header
structure.

On 32-bit ARM, we may boot at HYP mode, or with the MMU and caches off
(or both), even though the EFI spec does not actually support this.
While booting at HYP mode is something we might tolerate, fiddling
with the caches is a more serious issue, as disabling the caches is
tricky to do safely from C code, and running without the Dcache makes
it impossible to support unaligned memory accesses, which is another
explicit requirement imposed by the EFI spec.
So take note of the CPU mode and MMU state in the EFI stub diagnostic
output so that we can easily diagnose any issues that may arise from
this. E.g.,
EFI stub: Entering in SVC mode with MMU enabled
Also, capture the CPSR and SCTLR system register values at EFI stub
entry, and after ExitBootServices() returns, and check whether the
MMU and Dcache were disabled at any point. If this is the case, a
diagnostic message like the following will be emitted:

On arm64, the EFI stub is built into the kernel proper, and so the stub
can refer to its symbols directly. Therefore, the practice of using EFI
configuration tables to pass information between them is never needed,
so we can omit any code consuming such tables when building for arm64.

In most cases, such as CONFIG_ACPI_CUSTOM_DSDT and
CONFIG_ACPI_TABLE_UPGRADE, boot-time modifications to firmware tables
are tied to specific Kconfig options. Currently this is not the case
for modifying the ACPI SSDT via the efivar_ssdt kernel command line
option and associated EFI variable.
This patch adds CONFIG_EFI_CUSTOM_SSDT_OVERLAYS, which defaults
disabled, in order to allow enabling or disabling that feature during
the build.

Commit 9302c1bb8e ("efi/libstub: Rewrite file I/O routine") introduced a
regression that made a couple of (badly configured) systems fail to
boot [1]: Until 5.6, we silently accepted Unix-style file separators in
EFI paths, which might violate the EFI standard, but are an easy to make
mistake. This fix restores the pre-5.7 behaviour.

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:

By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by
this change:
"Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator
may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of
zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1]
sizeof(flexible-array-member) triggers a warning because flexible array
members have incomplete type[1]. There are some instances of code in
which the sizeof operator is being incorrectly/erroneously applied to
zero-length arrays and the result is zero. Such instances may be hiding
some bugs. So, this work (flexible-array member conversions) will also
help to get completely rid of those sorts of issues.
Lastly, make use of the sizeof_field() helper instead of an open-coded
version.
This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle and audited _manually_.

If this function returns an error, kobject_put() must be called to
properly clean up the memory associated with the object. Previous

changed the optimization level for the EFI stub to -Os from -O2.
Andrey Ignatov reports that this breaks the build with gcc 4.8.5.
Testing on godbolt.org, the combination of -Os,
-fno-asynchronous-unwind-tables, and ms_abi functions doesn't work,
failing with the error:

-maccumulate-outgoing-args or subtarget optimization implying it
This does appear to work with gcc 4.9 onwards.
Add -maccumulate-outgoing-args explicitly to unbreak the build with
pre-4.9 versions of gcc.
