938edb8a31 SCSI misc on 20181224
This is mostly update of the usual drivers: smarpqi, lpfc, qedi,
 megaraid_sas, libsas, zfcp, mpt3sas, hisi_sas. Additionally, we have
 a pile of annotation, unused variable and minor updates. The big API
 change is the updates for Christoph's DMA rework which include
 removing the DISABLE_CLUSTERING flag. And finally there are a couple
 of target tree updates.

    nfp driver. From Stefano Brivio.

 3) Implement GRO for plain UDP sockets, from Paolo Abeni.

 4) Lots of work from Michał Mirosław to eliminate the VLAN_TAG_PRESENT
    bit so that we could support the entire vlan_tci value.

 5) Rework the IPSEC policy lookups to better optimize more usecases,
    from Florian Westphal.

 6) Infrastructure changes eliminating direct manipulation of SKB lists
    wherever possible, and to always use the appropriate SKB list
    helpers. This work is still ongoing...

    completely from the tree as it no longer has any users. From Oz
    Shlomo and others.

22) Add a NETDEV_PRE_CHANGEADDR so that drivers can veto the change and
    therefore abort the operation before the commit phase (which is the
    NETDEV_CHANGEADDR event). From Petr Machata.

23) Add indirect call wrappers to avoid retpoline overhead, and use them
    in the GRO code paths. From Paolo Abeni.

24) Add support for netlink FDB get operations, from Roopa Prabhu.

   - Convert RCU's BUG_ON() and similar calls to WARN_ON() and similar.

   - Replace calls of RCU-bh and RCU-sched update-side functions to
     their vanilla RCU counterparts. This series is a step towards
     complete removal of the RCU-bh and RCU-sched update-side functions.

     ( Note that some of these conversions are going upstream via their
       respective maintainers. )

86a07da343 Revert "net: vhost: lock the vqs one by one"
This reverts commit 78139c94dc. We don't
protect device IOTLB with vq mutex, which will lead e.g use after free
for device IOTLB entries. And since we've switched to use
mutex_trylock() in previous patch, it's safe to revert it without
having deadlock.

476e8ba712 vhost_net: switch to use mutex_trylock() in vhost_net_busy_poll()
We used to hold the mutex of paired virtqueue in
vhost_net_busy_poll(). But this will results an inconsistent lock
order which may cause deadlock if we try to bring back the protection
of device IOTLB with vq mutex that requires to hold mutex of all
virtqueues at the same time.

Fix this simply by switching to use mutex_trylock(), when fail just
skip the busy polling. This can happen when device IOTLB is under
updating which should be rare.

4cc1feeb6f Merge git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net
Several conflicts, seemingly all over the place.

I used Stephen Rothwell's sample resolutions for many of these, if not
just to double check my own work, so definitely the credit largely
goes to him.

The NFP conflict consisted of a bug fix (moving operations
past the rhashtable operation) while chaning the initial
argument in the function call in the moved code.

The net/dsa/master.c conflict had to do with a bug fix intermixing of
making dsa_master_set_mtu() static with the fixing of the tagging
attribute location.

cls_flower had a conflict because the dup reject fix from Or
overlapped with the addition of port range classifiction.

__set_phy_supported()'s conflict was relatively easy to resolve
because Andrew fixed it in both trees, so it was just a matter
of taking the net-next copy. Or at least I think it was :-)

Joe Stringer's fix to the handling of netns id 0 in bpf_sk_lookup()
intermixed with changes on how the sdif and caller_net are calculated
in these code paths in net-next.

The remaining BPF conflicts were largely about the addition of the
__bpf_md_ptr stuff in 'net' overlapping with adjustments and additions
to the relevant data structure where the MD pointer macros are used.

834e772c8d vhost/vsock: fix use-after-free in network stack callers
If the network stack calls .send_pkt()/.cancel_pkt() during .release(),
a struct vhost_vsock use-after-free is possible. This occurs because
.release() does not wait for other CPUs to stop using struct
vhost_vsock.

Switch to an RCU-enabled hashtable (indexed by guest CID) so that
.release() can wait for other CPUs by calling synchronize_rcu(). This
also eliminates vhost_vsock_lock acquisition in the data path so it
could have a positive effect on performance.

This is CVE-2018-14625 "kernel: use-after-free Read in vhost_transport_send_pkt".

c38f57da42 vhost/vsock: fix reset orphans race with close timeout
If a local process has closed a connected socket and hasn't received a
RST packet yet, then the socket remains in the table until a timeout
expires.

When a vhost_vsock instance is released with the timeout still pending,
the socket is never freed because vhost_vsock has already set the
SOCK_DONE flag.

Check if the close timer is pending and let it close the socket. This
prevents the race which can leak sockets.

e3f787189e vhost: fix IOTLB locking
Commit 78139c94dc ("net: vhost: lock the vqs one by one") moved the vq
lock to improve scalability, but introduced a possible deadlock in
vhost-iotlb. vhost_iotlb_notify_vq() now takes vq->mutex while holding
the device's IOTLB spinlock. And on the vhost_iotlb_miss() path, the
spinlock is taken while holding vq->mutex.

Since calling vhost_poll_queue() doesn't require any lock, avoid the
deadlock by not taking vq->mutex.

30c7ca9350 scsi: target: drop unnecessary get_fabric_name() accessor from fabric_ops
All fabrics return a const string. In all cases *except* iSCSI the
get_fabric_name() string matches fabric_ops.name.

Both fabric_ops.get_fabric_name() and fabric_ops.name are user-facing, with
the former being used for PR/ALUA state and the latter for ConfigFS
(config/target/$name), so we unfortunately need to keep both strings around
for now. Replace the useless .get_fabric_name() accessor function with a

e4dab1e6ea vhost_net: mitigate page reference counting during page frag refill
We do a get_page() which involves a atomic operation. This patch tries
to mitigate a per packet atomic operation by maintaining a reference
bias which is initially USHRT_MAX. Each time a page is got, instead of
calling get_page() we decrease the bias and when we find it's time to
use a new page we will decrease the bias at one time through
__page_cache_drain_cache().

0d02dbd68c vhost/scsi: Respond to control queue operations
The vhost-scsi driver currently does not handle any control queue
operations. In particular, vhost_scsi_ctl_handle_kick, merely prints out
a debug message but does nothing else. This can cause guest VMs to hang.

As part of SCSI recovery from an error, e.g., an I/O timeout, the SCSI
midlayer attempts to abort the failed operation. The SCSI virtio driver
translates the abort to a SCSI TMF request that gets put on the control
queue (virtscsi_abort -> virtscsi_tmf). The SCSI virtio driver then
waits indefinitely for this request to be completed, but it never will
because vhost-scsi never responds to that request.

To avoid a hang, always respond to control queue operations; explicitly
reject TMF requests, and return a no-op response to event requests.

441abde4cd net: vhost: add rx busy polling in tx path
This patch improves the guest receive performance.
On the handle_tx side, we poll the sock receive queue at the
same time. handle_rx do that in the same way.

We set the poll-us=100us and use the netperf to test throughput
and mean latency. When running the tests, the vhost-net kthread
of that VM, is alway 100% CPU. The commands are shown as below.

Rx performance is greatly improved by this patch. There is not
notable performance change on tx with this series though. This
patch is useful for bi-directional traffic.

netperf -H IP -t TCP_STREAM -l 20 -- -O "THROUGHPUT, THROUGHPUT_UNITS, MEAN_LATENCY"

Topology:
[Host] ->linux bridge -> tap vhost-net ->[Guest]

TCP_STREAM:
* Without the patch: 19842.95 Mbps, 6.50 us mean latency
* With the patch: 37598.20 Mbps, 3.43 us mean latency

0a0be13b8f vhost_net: batch submitting XDP buffers to underlayer sockets
This patch implements XDP batching for vhost_net. The idea is first to
try to do userspace copy and build XDP buff directly in vhost. Instead
of submitting the packet immediately, vhost_net will batch them in an
array and submit every 64 (VHOST_NET_BATCH) packets to the under layer
sockets through msg_control of sendmsg().

When XDP is enabled on the TUN/TAP, TUN/TAP can process XDP inside a
loop without caring GUP thus it can do batch map flushing. When XDP is
not enabled or not supported, the underlayer socket need to build skb
and pass it to network core. The batched packet submission allows us
to do batching like netif_receive_skb_list() in the future.

This saves lots of indirect calls for better cache utilization. For
the case that we can't so batching e.g when sndbuf is limited or
packet size is too large, we will go for usual one packet per
sendmsg() way.

Doing testpmd on various setups gives us:

Test                /+pps%
XDP_DROP on TAP     /+44.8%
XDP_REDIRECT on TAP /+29%
macvtap (skb)       /+26%

Netperf tests shows obvious improvements for small packet transmission:

fe8dd45bb7 tun: switch to new type of msg_control
This patch introduces to a new tun/tap specific msg_control:

#define TUN_MSG_UBUF 1
#define TUN_MSG_PTR  2
struct tun_msg_ctl {
       int type;
       void *ptr;
};

This allows us to pass different kinds of msg_control through
sendmsg(). The first supported type is ubuf (TUN_MSG_UBUF) which will
be used by the existed vhost_net zerocopy code. The second is XDP
buff, which allows vhost_net to pass XDP buff to TUN. This could be
used to implement accepting an array of XDP buffs from vhost_net in
the following patches.

429711aec2 vhost: switch to use new message format
We use to have message like:

struct vhost_msg {
	int type;
	union {
		struct vhost_iotlb_msg iotlb;
		__u8 padding[64];
	};
};

Unfortunately, there will be a hole of 32bit in 64bit machine because
of the alignment. This leads a different formats between 32bit API and
64bit API. What's more it will break 32bit program running on 64bit
machine.

So fixing this by introducing a new message type with an explicit
32bit reserved field after type like:

This converts drivers that were only calling transport_deregister_session

fa83428730 scsi: target: rename target_alloc_session
Rename target_alloc_session to target_setup_session to avoid confusion with
the other transport session allocation function that only allocates the
session and because the target_alloc_session does so much more. It
allocates the session, sets up the nacl and registers the session.

The next patch will then add a remove function to match the setup in this
one, so it should make sense for all drivers, except iscsi, to just call
those 2 functions to setup and remove a session.

iscsi will continue to be the odd driver.

027b17603b vhost_net: Avoid tx vring kicks during busyloop
Under heavy load vhost busypoll may run without suppressing
notification. For example tx zerocopy callback can push tx work while
handle_tx() is running, then busyloop exits due to vhost_has_work()
condition and enables notification but immediately reenters handle_tx()
because the pushed work was tx. In this case handle_tx() tries to
disable notification again, but when using event_idx it by design
cannot. Then busyloop will run without suppressing notification.
Another example is the case where handle_tx() tries to enable
notification but avail idx is advanced so disables it again. This case
also leads to the same situation with event_idx.

The problem is that once we enter this situation busyloop does not work
under heavy load for considerable amount of time, because notification
is likely to happen during busyloop and handle_tx() immediately enables
notification after notification happens. Specifically busyloop detects
notification by vhost_has_work() and then handle_tx() calls
vhost_enable_notify(). Because the detected work was the tx work, it
enters handle_tx(), and enters busyloop without suppression again.
This is likely to be repeated, so with event_idx we are almost not able
to suppress notification in this case.

To fix this, poll the work instead of enabling notification when
busypoll is interrupted by something. IMHO vhost_has_work() is kind of
interruption rather than a signal to completely cancel the busypoll, so
let's run busypoll after the necessary work is done.

670ae9caac vhost: fix info leak due to uninitialized memory
struct vhost_msg within struct vhost_msg_node is copied to userspace.
Unfortunately it turns out on 64 bit systems vhost_msg has padding after
type which gcc doesn't initialize, leaking 4 uninitialized bytes to
userspace.

This padding also unfortunately means 32 bit users of this interface are
broken on a 64 bit kernel which will need to be fixed separately.

f5a4941aa6 vhost_net: flush batched heads before trying to busy polling
After commit e2b3b35eb9 ("vhost_net: batch used ring update in rx"),
we tend to batch updating used heads. But it doesn't flush batched
heads before trying to do busy polling, this will cause vhost to wait
for guest TX which waits for the used RX. Fixing by flush batched
heads before busy loop.

1b15ad683a vhost: synchronize IOTLB message with dev cleanup
DaeRyong Jeong reports a race between vhost_dev_cleanup() and

db688c24ea vhost_net: use packet weight for rx handler, too
Similar to commit a2ac99905f ("vhost-net: set packet weight of
tx polling to 2 * vq size"), we need a packet-based limit for
handler_rx, too - elsewhere, under rx flood with small packets,
tx can be delayed for a very long time, even without busypolling.

The pkt limit applied to handle_rx must be the same applied by
handle_tx, or we will get unfair scheduling between rx and tx.
Tying such limit to the queue length makes it less effective for
large queue length values and can introduce large process
scheduler latencies, so a constant valued is used - likewise
the existing bytes limit.

The selected limit has been validated with PVP[1] performance
test with different queue sizes:

queue size		256	512	1024

baseline		366	354	362
weight 128		715	723	670
weight 256		740	745	733
weight 512		600	460	583
weight 1024		423	427	418

A packet weight of 256 gives peek performances in under all the
tested scenarios.

No measurable regression in unidirectional performance tests has
been detected.

ddd3d4081f vhost: return bool from *_access_ok() functions
Currently vhost *_access_ok() functions return int. This is error-prone
because there are two popular conventions:

1. 0 means failure, 1 means success
2. -errno means failure, 0 means success

Although vhost mostly uses #1, it does not do so consistently.
umem_access_ok() uses #2.

This patch changes the return type from int to bool so that false means
failure and true means success. This eliminates a potential source of
errors.

d14d2b7809 vhost: fix vhost_vq_access_ok() log check
Commit d65026c6c6 ("vhost: validate log
when IOTLB is enabled") introduced a regression. The logic was
originally:

  if (vq->iotlb)
      return 1;
  return A && B;

After the patch the short-circuit logic for A was inverted:

  if (A || vq->iotlb)
      return A;
  return B;

This patch fixes the regression by rewriting the checks in the obvious
way, no longer returning A when vq->iotlb is non-NULL (which is hard to
understand).

Ping-Latencies shown below were tested between two Virtual Machines using
netperf (UDP_STREAM, len=1), and then another machine pinged the client:

Seems pretty consistent, a small dip at 2 VQ sizes.
Ring size is a hint from device about a burst size it can tolerate. Based on
benchmarks, set the weight to 2 * vq size.

To evaluate this change, another tests were done using netperf(RR, TX) between
two machines with Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6133 CPU @ 2.50GHz, and vq size was
tweaked through qemu. Results shown below does not show obvious changes.

   MLX5E_REP_PARAMS_LOG_{SQ,RQ}_SIZE

2) In 'net-next' params->log_rq_size is renamed to be

3) In 'net-next' params->hard_mtu is added.

d65026c6c6 vhost: validate log when IOTLB is enabled
Vq log_base is the userspace address of bitmap which has nothing to do
with IOTLB. So it needs to be validated unconditionally otherwise we
may try use 0 as log_base which may lead to pin pages that will lead
unexpected result (e.g trigger BUG_ON() in set_bit_to_user()).

dc6455a71c vhost: correctly remove wait queue during poll failure
We tried to remove vq poll from wait queue, but do not check whether

this by switching to use vhost_poll_stop() which zeros poll->wqh after

03fe2debbb Merge git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net
Fun set of conflict resolutions here...

For the mac80211 stuff, these were fortunately just parallel
adds.  Trivially resolved.

In drivers/net/phy/phy.c we had a bug fix in 'net' that moved the
function phy_disable_interrupts() earlier in the file, whilst in
'net-next' the phy_error() call from this function was removed.

In net/ipv4/xfrm4_policy.c, David Ahern's changes to remove the
'rt_table_id' member of rtable collided with a bug fix in 'net' that
added a new struct member "rt_mtu_locked" which needs to be copied
over here.

The mlxsw driver conflict consisted of net-next separating
the span code and definitions into separate files, whilst
a 'net' bug fix made some changes to that moved code.

The mlx5 infiniband conflict resolution was quite non-trivial,
the RDMA tree's merge commit was used as a guide here, and
here are their notes:

====================

    Due to bug fixes found by the syzkaller bot and taken into the for-rc
    branch after development for the 4.17 merge window had already started
    being taken into the for-next branch, there were fairly non-trivial
    merge issues that would need to be resolved between the for-rc branch
    and the for-next branch. This merge resolves those conflicts and
    provides a unified base upon which ongoing development for 4.17 can
    be based.

    Conflicts:
            drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/main.c - Commit 42cea83f95
            (IB/mlx5: Fix cleanup order on unload) added to for-rc and
            commit b5ca15ad7e (IB/mlx5: Add proper representors support)
            add as part of the devel cycle both needed to modify the
            init/de-init functions used by mlx5. To support the new
            representors, the new functions added by the cleanup patch
            needed to be made non-static, and the init/de-init list
            added by the representors patch needed to be modified to
            match the init/de-init list changes made by the cleanup
            patch.
    Updates:
            drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/mlx5_ib.h - Update function
            prototypes added by representors patch to reflect new function
            names as changed by cleanup patch
            drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/ib_rep.c - Update init/de-init
            stage list to match new order from cleanup patch

9b2c45d479 net: make getname() functions return length rather than use int* parameter
Changes since v1:
Added changes in these files:
    drivers/infiniband/hw/usnic/usnic_transport.c
    drivers/staging/lustre/lnet/lnet/lib-socket.c
    drivers/target/iscsi/iscsi_target_login.c
    drivers/vhost/net.c
    fs/dlm/lowcomms.c
    fs/ocfs2/cluster/tcp.c
    security/tomoyo/network.c

Before:
All these functions either return a negative error indicator,
or store length of sockaddr into "int *socklen" parameter
and return zero on success.

"int *socklen" parameter is awkward. For example, if caller does not
care, it still needs to provide on-stack storage for the value
it does not need.

None of the many FOO_getname() functions of various protocols
ever used old value of *socklen. They always just overwrite it.

This change drops this parameter, and makes all these functions, on success,
return length of sockaddr. It's always >= 0 and can be differentiated
from an error.

Tests in callers are changed from "if (err)" to "if (err < 0)", where needed.

rpc_sockname() lost "int buflen" parameter, since its only use was
to be passed to kernel_getsockname() as &buflen and subsequently
not used in any way.

Userspace API is not changed.

a9a08845e9 vfs: do bulk POLL* -> EPOLL* replacement
This is the mindless scripted replacement of kernel use of POLL*
variables as described by Al, done by this script:

    for V in IN OUT PRI ERR RDNORM RDBAND WRNORM WRBAND HUP RDHUP NVAL MSG; do
        L=`git grep -l -w POLL$V | grep -v '^t' | grep -v /um/ | grep -v '^sa' | grep -v '/poll.h$'|grep -v '^D'`
        for f in $L; do sed -i "-es/^\([^\"]*\)\(\<POLL$V\>\)/\\1E\\2/" $f; done
    done

with de-mangling cleanups yet to come.

NOTE! On almost all architectures, the EPOLL* constants have the same
values as the POLL* constants do. But they keyword here is "almost".
For various bad reasons they aren't the same, and epoll() doesn't
actually work quite correctly in some cases due to this on Sparc et al.

The next patch from Al will sort out the final differences, and we
should be all done.

there's no need to hold a reference to the struct file as well. So get

f6f93f75af vhost: remove unused lock check flag in vhost_dev_cleanup()
In commit ea5d404655 ("vhost: fix release path lockdep checks"),
Michael added a flag to check whether we should hold a lock in
vhost_dev_cleanup(), however, in commit 47283bef7e ("vhost: move
memory pointer to VQs"), RCU operations have been replaced by
mutex, we can remove the no-longer-used `locked' parameter now.
