I made a correction for get_lsr_info, now it returns some meaningful

I am submitting a patch for the pl2303 driver. This patch adds support
for the "Sony QN-3USB" cable (vendor=0x054c, product=0x0437). This USB
cable is a so-called data cable used to connect a Sony mobile phone to a
computer. Supported models are Sony CMD-J5, J6, J7, J16, J26, J70 and
Z7.
I have used this patch with my Sony CMD-J70 for several days and I
haven't encountered any kernel/hardware issue.

Added support for the Alcatel X060S/X200 broadband modems to the option
driver. The device starts in cd-rom emulation mode (1bbb:f000) and
requires the use of the usb_modeswitch tool to switch it to modem mode

So the ATEN 2324 (aten2011.c driver), is definitely the Moschip 7840,
and should use the mos7840.c driver. I expect you will remove the
aten2011.c driver from the staging area.
From the aten2011.c source code, the device ID for the UC2322 (2 port
serial) is 0x7820, just like the Moschip evaluation board. This value
should be added to the device id table of mos7840.c.
Here's a patch that adds these devices to the driver.

Current listed Onda ids are ZTE devices. Replace them with ZTE id define
and add more ZTE device ids. Also remove 19d2:2000, this is the id when
device is first plugged in and is a CD-only device, before the switch
using eject.

With these changes my PL2303 always ends up as ttyUSB0 when it should and
the module refcounts stay correct.
I'll do a more wholesale split & tidy of _open in the next release or two
as we get a standard tty_port_open and port->ops->init port->ops->shutdown
call backs.
Copy sent to Alan Stern and Carlos Mafra just to confirm it fixes all the
reports but it passes local testing with the same hardware as Alan Stern.

The port lock is used to protect the port state. However the port structure
is freed on a hangup, then the lock taken on a close. The right fix is to
drop the port on tty->shutdown() but we can't yet do that due to sleep v
non-sleeping rules. Instead do the next best thing and fix it up when we are
not in -rc season.

This patch (as1264) removes a bunch of unnecessary and erroneous stuff
from the option USB-serial driver. Clearly there's no need to verify
that the device pointer stored in the URBs is right or to store the
same pointer over again. After all, the pointer can't change once it
has been set up.
There's also no need to call usb_clear_halt for the IN endpoint
multiple times -- in fact, doing so is an error since every time after
the first there will be active URBs queued for that endpoint. Since
the Clear-Halts don't appear to be needed at all, the patch simply
removes them.

This patch (as1265) removes an erroneous call to usb_clear_halt from
the cypress_m8 driver. The call isn't valid because it is made from
interrupt context whereas usb_clear_halt is a blocking routine.
Presumably the code has never been executed; if it did it would cause
an oops. So instead treat -EPIPE like any other sort of unexplained
error.

This patch (as1263) fixes a mixup that occurred when conflicting
patches for the sierra driver were merged incorrectly. The former
sierra_shutdown routine should have been become sierra_release, not
sierra_disconnect.
The symptom this fixes is an oops when the device file is closed after
a Sierra device has been unplugged (Bugzilla #13675).

Add A-Link 3GU device id 1e0e:9200 into option driver. The device
has 4 interfaces, of which 1 is handled by storage and the other 3
by option driver.
The device appears first as CD-only 1e0e:f000 device and must be
switched to 1e0e:9200 mode either by using "eject CD" or
usb_modeswitch.
For the record, the device does not work with generic usbserial
driver (usb disconnect when sending the ATDT command).

It enhances the driver for FTDI-based USB serial adapters to recognize and
support Northern Digital Inc (NDI) measurement equipment. NDI has been
providing this patch for various kernel flavors for several years and we would
like to see these changes built in to the driver so that our equipement works
without the need for customers to patch the kernel themselves.
The patch makes small modifications to 2 files: ./drivers/usb/serial/ftdi_sio.c
and ./drivers/usb/serial/ftdi_sio.h. It accomplishes 3 things:
1. Define the VID and PIDs to allow the driver to recognize the NDI devices.
2. Map the 19200 baud rate setting to our higher baud rate of 1.2Mb
We would have chosen to map 38400 to the higher rate, similar to what
several other vendors have done, but some of our legacy customers actually
use 38400, therefore we remap 19200 to the higher rate.
3. We set the default transmit latency in the FTDI chip to 1ms for our devices.
Our devices are typically polled at 60Hz and the default ftdi latency
seriously affects turn-around time and results in missed data frames. We
have created a modprobe option that allows this setting to be increased.
This has proven necessary particularly in some virtualized environments.

The commit 335f8514f2 introduced a
regression which stopped usb consoles from working correctly as a
kernel boot console as well as interactive login device.
The addition of the serial_close() which in turn calls
tty_port_close_start() will change the reference count of port.count
and warn about it. The usb console code had previously incremented
the port.count to indicate it was making use of the device as a
console and the forced change causes a double open on the usb device
which leads to a non obvious kernel oops later on when the tty is
freed.
To fix the problem instead make use of port->console to track if the
port is in fact an active console port to avoid double initialization
of the usb serial device. The port.count is incremented and
decremented only with in the scope of usb_console_setup() for the
purpose of the low level driver initialization.

I recently bought a PC interface for the Cressi Edy dive computer
(www.cressi.it) and discovered that it uses the pl2303 chip, albeit
with ad-hoc vendor and product ids (04b8, 0521 respectively). Being in
the process of writing a linux software for such device (cressi only
provides a windows software), I patched the pl2303 linux driver to
have the interface recognized. I am submitting you the patch (very
basic) for inclusion in next kernel version.

This commit 335f8514f2 has stopped
properly checking if there is any usb serial associated with the tty in
the close function. It happens the close function is called by releasing
the terminal right after opening the device fails.
As an example, open fails with a non-existing device, when probe has
never been called, because the device has never been plugged. This is
common in systems with static modules and no udev.

This patch (as1254) splits up the shutdown method of usb_serial_driver
into a disconnect and a release method.
The problem is that the usb-serial core was calling shutdown during
disconnect handling, but drivers didn't expect it to be called until
after all the open file references had been closed. The result was an
oops when the close method tried to use memory that had been
deallocated by shutdown.

The only time a sysrq should get processed is if the attached device
is a console. This is intended to protect sysrq execution on a host
connected with a terminal program.
Here is the problem scenario:
host A <-- rs232 link --> host B
Host A is using mincom and a usb pl2303 device to connect to host b
which is a linux system with a usb pl2303 device acting as the serial
console. When host B is rebooted the pl2303 emits random junk
characters on reset. These character sequences contain serial break
signals most of the time and when translated to a sysrq have caused
host A to get random processes killed, reboots or power down.
It is true that in this setup with this patch host B might still have
the same problem as host A if you reboot host A. In most cases host A
is a development host which seldom gets rebooted, and you could turn
off sysrq temporarily on host B if you need to reboot host A.

The usb_debug driver was modified to implement serial break handling
by using a "magic" data packet comprised of the sequence:
0x00 0xff 0x01 0xfe 0x00 0xfe 0x01 0xff
When the tty layer requests a serial break the usb_debug driver sends
the magic packet. On the receiving side the magic packet is thrown
away or a sysrq is activated depending on what kernel .config options
have been set.
The generic serial driver was modified as well as the usb serial
headers to generically implement sysrq processing in the same way the
non usb uart based drivers implement the sysrq handling. This will
allow other usb serial devices to implement sysrq handling as desired.
The new usb serial functions are named similarly and implemented
similarly to the uart functions as follows:
usb_serial_handle_break <-> uart_handle_break
usb_serial_handle_sysrq_char <-> uart_handle_sysrq_char

Alan Stern commented that the private driver counts must be updated
regard less of the status return on the urb when the write call back
is executed.
This patch alters the behavior to update the private driver counts by
simply moving the status check to after the driver count update.

The usb_debug driver, when used as the console, will always fail to
insert the carriage return and new line sequence as well as randomly
drop console output. This is a result of only having the single
write_urb and that the tty layer will have a lock that prevents the
processing of the back to back urb requests.
The solution is to allow more than one urb to be outstanding and have
a slightly deeper transmit queue. The idea and some code is borrowed
from the ftdi_sio usb driver.
The generic usb serial driver was modified so as to allow the classic
method of 1 write urb, or a multi write urb scheme with N allowed
outstanding urbs where N is controlled by max_in_flight_urbs. When
max_in_flight_urbs in a "struct usb_serial_driver" is non zero the
multi write urb scheme will be used.
The size of 4000 was selected for the usb_debug driver so that the
driver lowers possibility of losing the queued console messages during
the kernel startup.

This patch fixes a problem in function sierra_indat_callback() which
would stop receiving traffic from a modem if a number of URB failures
occur. Failed URBs are not resubmitted for the next read and there is
only a limited number of URBs allocated for the IN path. After this
number of failures, the receive path stops working on a particular
interface.

- First one is the USB storage one
- Second one is for both control and connection

Added a function to set the packet size to be used based on the value from the
device endpoint descriptor. The FT2232H and FT4232H hi-speed devices will have
wMaxPacketSize of 512 bytes when connected to a USB 2.0 hi-speed host, but will
use alternative descriptors with wMaxPacketSize of 64 bytes if connected to a
USB 1.1 host or hub. All other FTDI devices have wMaxPacketSize of 64 bytes,
except some FT232R and FT245R devices which customers have mistakenly
programmed to have wMaxPacketSize of 0 - this is an error and will be
overridden to use wMaxPacketSize of 64 bytes. The packet size used is
important as it determines where the driver removes the status bytes from the
incoming data. If it is incorrect, it will lead to data corruption.

Added support for FTDI's USB 2.0 hi-speed devices - FT2232H (2
interfaces) and FT4232H (4 interfaces), including a new baud rate
calculation for these devices which can now achieve up to 12Mbaud by
turning off a divide by 2.5 in the baud rate generator of the chips. In
order to achieve baud rates of <1200 baud, the divide by 2.5 must be
active. The default product ID of the FT2232H is 0x6010 (same as the
FT2232C IC). The default PID of the FT4232H is 0x6011.

I would like to have added new device to usbserial/ftdi_sio driver.
These ids used USB track device (http://www.l-and-b.dk/access_alt.html).
They use differend device IDs, but it works as standard usb-serial
conventer.

Interface blacklisting is necessary for non-serial interfaces that are handled
by a different driver. The interface blacklisting is implemented in sierra
driver per device. Each device in need of a blacklist has a static information
array kept in the driver. This array contains the interface numbers that are
blacklisted. The pointer for each blacklist array and the length
of that blacklist are 'bundled' in data structure sierra_iface_info. A pointer
to this information is set in id_table when the device is added to the id_table.
The following is summary of changes we have made to sierra.c driver in
this patch dealing with interface blacklisting support:
- Added data structure sierra_iface_info and function is_blacklisted()
to support blacklisting
- Modified sierra_probe() to handle blacklisted interfaces accordingly
- Improved comments in id_table
- Added new device in id_table with blacklist interface support

Summary of the changes and code re-organization in this patch:
- The memory for urbs is allocated and urbs are submitted only for the active
interfaces (instead of pre-allocating these for all interfaces). This will
save memory especially in the case of using composite devices.
- The code has been re-organized and functionality has been extracted from
sierra_startup(), sierra_shutdown(), sierra_open(), sierra_close() and added
in helper functions sierra_release_urb(), sierra_stop_rx_urbs(),
sierra_submit_rx_urbs() and sierra_setup_urb()
- Added function sierra_release_urb() to free an urb and its transfer
buffer.
- Removed unecessary include file reference and comment.
- Added function sierra_stop_rx_urbs() that takes care of the release of
receive and interrupt urbs. This function is to be called by sierra_close()
whenever an interface is de-activated.
- Added new function sierra_submit_rx_urbs() that handles the submission of
receive urbs and interrupt urbs (if any) during the interface activation.
This function is to be called by sierra_open(). Added a second parameter to
pass the memory allocation (as suggested by Oliver Neukum) so that this
function can be used in post_reset() and resume().
- Added new function sierra_setup_urb() that contains the functionality to
allocate an urb, fill bulk urb using the supplied memory allocation flag
and release urb upon error. Added parameter so that the caller pass the
memory allocation flag for flexibility.
- Moved sierra_close() before sierra_open() to resolve dependencies
introduced by the code reorganization.
- Modified sierra_close() to call sierra_stop_rx_urbs() and
sierra_release_urb() functions added in previous patch.
- Modified sierra_open() to call sierra_setup_urb() and sierra_submit_rx_urbs()
functions; note urbs are allocated and submitted for each activated interface.
- Modified sierra_startup() so that allocation of urbs happens whenever an
interface is activated (urb allocation is moved to sierra_open()).
- Modified sierra_shutdown() so that urbs are freed whenever an interface is
de-activated (urb freeing moved to sierra_close() as shown in previous patch
from the series)
- Removed unecessary data structure from sierra_port_private_data
- Suppress an entry in logs by not re-submitting an urb when usb_submit_urb()
returns -EPERM, as this shows that usb_kill_urb() is running (as suggested by
Oliver Neukum)

This allows users to use the standard setserial command with this FT232
feature as well as obscure chip specific interfaces we have now. We keep
track of and respect the sysfs value for non-low-latency cases. In theory we
could do smart stuff with VTIME and the like but this seems of questionable
worth.

The CP210X driver was developed without official device specifications.
This has lead to an incorrect assumption that all GET request codes are
equal to the corresponding SET request code +1.
This patch removes this incorrect assumption, and uses request code
definitions based on the updated GPL driver from SiLabs.
This modification is needed before extended functionality such as GPIO
on CP2103 can be supported.

set_termios can now be used for setting the parity and the stopbits. This is
needed to use with cards which use a different parity then the parity used at
start (even).
If the iuu_uart_baud function return an error, we will return the old_termios
instead of the new one.

This allows us to clean stuff up, but is probably also going to cause
some app breakage with buggy apps as we now implement proper POSIX behaviour
for USB ports matching all the other ports. This does also mean other apps
that break on USB will now work properly.

This patch (as1244) fixes a crash in usb-serial that occurs when a
sub-driver returns a positive value from its attach method, indicating
that new firmware was loaded and the device will disconnect and
reconnect. The usb-serial core then skips the step of registering the
port devices; when the disconnect occurs, the attempt to unregister
the ports fails dramatically.
This problem shows up with Keyspan devices and it might affect others
as well.
When the attach method returns a positive value, the patch sets
num_ports to 0. This tells usb_serial_disconnect() not to try
unregistering any of the ports; instead they are cleaned up by
destroy_serial().

Commit c45d6320 ("fix reference counting of ftdi_private") stopped
ftdi_sio_port_remove() from directly freeing the port-private data, with
the intention if the port was still open, it would be freed when
ftdi_close() is eventually called and releases the last refcount on the
structure.
That's all very well, but ftdi_sio_port_remove() still contains a call
to usb_set_serial_port_data(port, NULL) -- so by the time we get to
ftdi_close() for the port which was unplugged, it _still_ oopses on
dereferencing that NULL pointer, as it did before (and does in 2.6.29).
The fix is just not to clear the private data in ftdi_sio_port_remove().
Then the refcount is properly reduced to zero when the final kref_put()
happens in ftdi_close().
Remove a bogus comment too, while we're at it. And stop doing things
inside "if (priv)" -- it must _always_ be there.

This patch (as1238) adds proper reference counting for ftdi_sio's
private data structure. Without it, the driver will free the
structure while it is still in use if the user unplugs the serial
device before closing the device file.
The patch also replaces a slightly dangerous
cancel_delayed_work/flush_scheduled_work pair with
cancel_delayed_work_sync, which is always safer.

This patch fixes a problem in sierra_send_setup() function when
composite devices are used. One should not be sending ACM commands to
interfaces that are OBEX. Doing this causes an apparent failure as the
ACM command has to time out before the interface can start being used.

This patch (as1229) fixes a few lifetime and locking problems in the
usb-serial driver. The main symptom is that an invalid kevent is
created when the serial device is unplugged while a connection is
active.
Ports should be unregistered when device is disconnected,
not when the parent usb_serial structure is deallocated.
Each open file should hold a reference to the corresponding
port structure, and the reference should be released when
the file is closed.
serial->disc_mutex should be acquired in serial_open(), to
resolve the classic race between open and disconnect.
serial_close() doesn't need to hold both serial->disc_mutex
and port->mutex at the same time.
Release the subdriver's module reference only after releasing
all the other references, in case one of the release routines
needs to invoke some code in the subdriver module.
Replace a call to flush_scheduled_work() (which is prone to
deadlocks) with cancel_work_sync(). Also, add a call to
cancel_work_sync() in the disconnect routine.
Reduce the scope of serial->disc_mutex in serial_disconnect().
The only place it really needs to protect is where the
"disconnected" flag is set.
This fixes the bug reported in

The v950 appears to be a ruggedized version of the Motorola Razor
phone. Tethering to the phone to use it in 'phone as modem' mode
requires the use of the specialized moto-modem driver which layers
over the usb-serial driver. Support for the v950 was added simply
adding the device ID's for the phone.

Fixup of Werner Cornelius patch to the ch341 USB-serial driver, which adds:
- support all baudrates, not just a hard-coded set
- support for controlling DTR, RTS and CTS
Features still missing:
- character length other than 8 bits
- parity settings
- break control
I adapted his patch for the new usb_serial API introduced in 2.6.25-git8 by
Alan Cox on 22 July 2008. Non-compliance to the new API was a reason for
refusing a similar patch from Tollef Fog Heen.

This patch allows D-Link DWM-652 3.5G modem to work.
It is an express card but was only tested with the provided usb adapter as I
don't have machines with express card connector.

then we leak a kref. Found by Christoph Mair <christoph.mair@gmail.com>
who proposed a patch. The patch here is different as Christoph's patch
didn't work for the case where tty = NULL and data arrived but Christoph
did all the hard work chasing it down.

There are various bits of code here that are unfinished and instead of
being harmless either confuse or spew stuff into the logs at higher than
debug level. They can and should go away.
Also remove the bogus use of tty->lowlatency. We fixed the need for this hack
long ago (with the flip buffer rewrite) but people keep copying it into drivers.

This is really a follow up to the modifications Alan Cox made for commit
95da310e66 to pass a tty_struct to various
interface functions, which broke the serial configuration (termios) functions
when the device is being used as a console. These changes restore the
configuration to proper functioning both as a tty and as a console. As Alan
notes in that commit, these changes will need to be tweaked when we have
a proper console abstraction.

The ipaq driver currently enforces one port on all devices. This
is correct for 2 and 3 endpoint devices, but with 4 endpoint devices
meaningful communication occurs on the second pair.
This patch allows 2 ports for 4 endpoint devices.

This patch adds support for the extended range of baud rates supported
by CP2102 and CP2103 devices described in SiLabs AN205. An additional
function cp2101_quantise_baudrate rounds the baud rate as per AN205
Table 1. A modification to the baud rate calculation removes a rounding
error, allowing the full range of baud rates to be used.

actual_length should also be a u32 and not a signed value. This patch
changes this field to be 'u32' to prevent any potential negative
conversion and comparison errors.
This triggered a few compiler warning messages when these fields were
being used with the min macro, so they have also been fixed up in this
patch.

This patch fixes the following bug:
.plug ch341 usb serial port into a hub port;
.ch341 driver bound to the device and /dev/ttyUSB0 comes
.open /dev/ttyUSB0 by minicom and we can use the serial successfully
.suspend the ch341 usb serial device(such as: echo suspend > power/level)
.resume the ch341 usb serial device (such as: echo on > power/level)
.new port /dev/ttyUSB1 comes ,and the original /dev/ttyUSB0 still exists,
but is no longer usable by minicom
The patch adds suspend and resume callback to ch341 usb driver to prevent it
from unbinding during suspend. The /dev/ttyUSB0 is not released until being
closed, so /dev/ttyUSB1 comes after resume, and the original /dev/ttyUSB0 is
no longer usable by minicom. It is really a mess for a minicom user.
This patch also adds the reset_resume callback to make it usable after resuming
from STR or hibernation, for generally STR or hibernation will make the vbus
of root-hub lost.
Finally enable the driver's supports_autosuspend, for the device is in working
order with it.

With "nousb" cmdline booting, built-in serial drivers (ie. airecable)
will trigger kernel oops.
Indeed, if nousb, usb_serial_init will failed, and the usb serial bus type
will not be registerd, then usb_serial_register call driver_register
which try to register the driver to a not registered bus.
Here add usb_disabled() check in usb_serial_register to fix it.

A USB-serial converter device is plugged into a system, and a process
opens it's device node. If the device is physically removed whilst the
process still has its device node open, then other processes can
sucessfully open the now non-existent device's node. I would expect
that open() on a device that has been physically removed should return
ENODEV.
This is manifesting itself with getty on my system. I do the following:
1. set up inittab to spawn getty on ttyUSB0, eg:
T1:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -L ttyUSB0 115200 vt100
2. Plug in USB-serial converter cable
3. Wait for a login prompt on a terminal program attached to the serial
cable
4. Login
5. Pull the USB-serial converter cable from the box
6. getty doesn't realise that ttyUSB0 no longer exists as /dev/ttyUSB0
can still be opened.
7. Re-insert the USB-serial converter cable
8. You should no longer get a login prompt over the serial cable, as
the the USB-serial cable now shows up as /dev/ttyUSB1, and getty is
trying to talk to /dev/ttyUSB0.
The attached patch will cause open("/dev/ttyUSB0", O_RDONLY) to return
ENODEV after the USB-serial converter has been pulled. The patch was
created against 2.6.28.1. I can supply it against something else if
needs be. It is fairly simple, so should be OK.
I am using a pl2303 device, although I don't think that makes any
difference.

This removes the fallback to the generic method. It is cleaner to
explicitely request it. Introducing this was my mistake. This will
be solved by an explicit test and the driver being allowed to request
what it needs to be done upon resumption.

Remove some pointless messages from the FTDI serial driver;
I found these filling up syslog on one system. Also remove

This removes an unnecessary check for autoresume from the generic
resume method. The check has been obsoleted by the now delayed
increase of the usage counter which makes the error this check prevented
impossible. This change allows drivers which only use the bulk read URB
the use of the generic method even if they support autosuspend.

This patch introduces a flag into the usb serial layer to tell drivers
that their URBs are killed due to suspension. That is necessary to let
drivers know whether they should report an error back.

Fixup of Werner Cornelius patch to the ch341 USB-serial driver, which adds:
- support all baudrates, not just a hard-coded set
- support for controlling DTR, RTS and CTS
Features still missing:
- character length other than 8 bits
- parity settings
- break control
I adapted his patch for the new usb_serial API introduced in 2.6.25-git8 by
Alan Cox on 22 July 2008. Non-compliance to the new API was a reason for
refusing a similar patch from Tollef Fog Heen.

The generic cdc-acm driver is now the best one to handle Sony Ericsson
F3507g-based devices (which the Dell 5530 is a rebrand of), now that all
the pieces are in place (ie, cac477e8f1).
Removing the IDs from option allows cdc-acm to handle the device.

While trying to make GSM modem Onda MT503HS working, I found a mismatch
between device id in the driver code (0x0200) and id in the lsusb
output (0x2000).
This patch fixed it for me, but I don't know if the original device id was
also correct and the new ID should be added instead of replacing the
old one.

The TI USB serial driver supports specifying alternate vendor and
product IDs (since the chips can and are used in devices under other
vendor/product IDs). However, the alternate IDs were not loaded in the
combined product table. This patch also adds support for loading
alternate firmware for alternate vendor/product IDs.

The underlying problem is that the device methods don't all correctly
handle disconnected status and some keep reporting bytes pending which
causes tcdrain to stall.
When the cable is unplugged they are definitely gone, and as this is true
for all USB cables we can fix it in the core usb serial code.

USB serial has always had races where the tty port usage count can hit zero
during a receive event. The internal locking is a mutex so we can't use
that in the IRQ handlers.
With krefs we can tackle this differently but we still need to be careful.

This patch adds the "Superial" USB-Serial converter to pl2303 so that it
is detected, by the correct driver. Adds the relevant vendor:product
(5372:2303) to the device tables in pl2303.c & pl2303.h. The patch has
been tested against 2.6.24-22-generic.

Someone on rmweb reminded me this had been overlooked from ages ago..
Add the identifiers for the Sprog II USB. This is a DCC control interface
using the FTDI-SIO hardware: http://www.sprog-dcc.co.uk/. People have been
using it with insmod options for ages, this just puts it into the driver
data.

When we close we must clear the extra reference we got when we read
port->tty. Setting the port tty NULL will clear the kref held by the driver
but not the one we obtained ourselves while doing the lookup.

In this patch, we want to do one thing: add more Huawei product IDs into the
USB driver. Then it can support more Huawei data card devices. So to declare
the unusual device for new Huawei data card devices in unusual_devs.h and to
declare more new product IDs in option.c.
To modify the data value and length in the function of
usb_stor_huawei_e220_init in initializers.c That's because based on the USB
standard, while sending SET_FETURE_D to the device, it requires the
corresponding data to be zero, and its sending length also must be zero. In
our old solution, it can be compatible with our WCDMA data card devices, but
can not support our CDMA data card devices. But in this new solution, it can
be compatible with all of our data card devices.

Add Oceanic PID to ftdi_sio driver
Oceanic dive computers (such as the VT3 --
http://www.oceanicworldwide.com/p_computers_vt3.html) all use an onboard
FTDI serial converter, with the FTDI vid and a PID of 0xf460. The
attached patch adds that pid to ftdi_sio; driver connects to my VT3
after that.

Use kref in the USB serial drivers so that we don't free tty structures
from under the URB receive handlers as has historically been the case if
you were unlucky. This also gives us a framework for general tty drivers to
use tty_port objects and refcount.
Contains two err->dev_err changes merged together to fix clashes in the
-next tree.

This patch removes the private check for the termios_initialized for
the pl2303 usb driver. It forced the baud to 9600 on the first call
to pl2303_set_termios()
Based on the tty changes in the 2.6.27 kernel, the termios passed to
the *_set_termios functions is always populated the first time.
This means there is no need to privately initialize the settings the
first time, and doing so will not allow the use of the kernel
parameter "console=ttyUSB0,115200" as an example.

For some reason the oti6858 driver undefines and redefines the dbg
macro. This makes it spew debugging messages at KERN_INFO instead of
KERN_DEBUG.
This patch removes the undef and define making the driver log like every
other USB serial driver.

While making some other changes to ti_usb_3410_5052, I noticed that the
changes made to move the firmware loading to a separate function are
broken (in ti_download_firmware(), status is set to -ENOMEM and never
changed). This means the driver will never initialize the device
properly. It looks like status was supposed to get the result of
ti_do_download().

The hw interface drivers for the usb serial devices deference the tty
structure to set up the parameters for the initial console. The tty
structure should be passed as a parameter to the set_termios() call.

This patch support NTT DoCoMo A2502 3G/HSDPA modem on option driver.
It is produced by AnyDATA Corp. and also sold as KT Freetelecom (Korea) ADU 620UW.
It support 3.6Mbps/7.2Mbps hight speed communication.
I have tested A2502 with NTT DoCoMo MoperaU ISP service.

These drivers should not be relying on CONFIG_USB_DEBUG. By doing this,
it prevents users of kernels that do not enable this option from
enabling debugging in these drivers, unlike all other usb-serial
drivers.

This adds the vendor and product id (19d2:0015) of the ZTE MF628 HSDPA
modem to the option driver. It still needs a mode switch command issued
beforehand, this is currently handled by a userspace tool.

This patch changes the method by which the number of ports per interface is
assigned so that it is more dynamic and calculated on the fly (as opposed to
hard coding it). This will allow for faster and easier addition of products.

This patch (as1121) fixes a bug in the USB serial core. When a device
is unregistered, the core will give back its minors -- even if the
device hasn't been assigned any!
The patch reserves the highest minor value (255) to mean that no minor
was assigned. It also removes some dead code and does a small style
fixup.

Stephen Rothwell points out that this file got deleted (on purpose) by
commit 640c1bce86 ("USB: delete airprime
driver"), but then almost immediately incorrectly resurrected by commit
95da310e66 ("usb_serial: API all change").
Delete it again. If it comes back, we'll need to drive a stake through
its heart.

USB serial likes to use port->tty back pointers for the real work it does and
to do so without any actual locking. Unfortunately when you consider hangup
events, hangup/parallel reopen or even worse hangup followed by parallel close
events the tty->port and port->tty pointers are not guaranteed to be the same
as port->tty is the active tty while tty->port is the port the tty may or
may not still be attached to.
So rework the entire API to pass the tty struct. For console cases we need
to pass both for now. This shows up multiple drivers that immediately crash
with USB console some of which have been fixed in the process.
Longer term we need a proper tty as console abstraction

USB debug port only supports 8 byte rx/tx packets. Although spec implies that
"if a packet larger than eight bytes is received from the remote computer, the
device must break the larger packet into eight-byte packets before sending the
data to the Debug Port", the real PLX NET20DC device does not handle it right -
data is corrupted on debug port end if serial interface sends >8 byte urbs.
Patch below fixes the issue by limiting tx urb to 8 byte.

usb serial decrements the pm counter even if an interface has been
disconnected. If it was a logical disconnect the interface may belong
already to another driver. This patch introduces a check for disconnected
interfaces.

The get/set 2101_config helpers take an unsigned int rather than an
int. It is safe to change these in each case and may even produce
better code as it will be an unsigned divide rather than a signed
divide in places. All other manipulation was setting/masking bits
which will not be affected by the sign change.

Here's a new device ID for the ftdio_sio driver.
The diff is with linus's tree as of this morning.
The device is the RigExpert Tiny USB Soundcard Transceiver Interface for ham
radio.
(I didn't actually test this. A fellow ham couldn't get the device to work, and
I suggested binding the device ID using sysfs - see
"http://jk.ufisa.uninett.no/usb/". However, he had had moved on to other things
by then. I guess adding the device ID to the kernel "on spec" won't hurt.

Add the interface info matching to all Huawei cards, as they all also
contain a Mass Storage Device interface (usually containing Windows

I've just got a USB GPRS/EDGE modem branded Manufacturer Micromax Model
MMX610U (see http://www.airtel.in/level2_t3data.aspx?path=1/106/179)
working by adding another product ID to pl2303. Modem info reports same
module as Max Arnold's i.e.SIMCOM SIM600 but with product ID 0x0612
(cf Ox0611).

This patch adds support for the range of PIDs
that have been allocated for FTDI based devices
at Matrix Orbital.
A small number of units have been shipped early 2008
with a faulty USB Descriptor. Products that may have
this issue have been marked with the existing quirk to
work around the problem.

Recent USB-serial devices using the WinChipHead CH340/CH341 chipset are
being shipped with a new vendor/product ID code pair, but an otherwise
identical device. (This is confirmed by looking at INF for the included
Windows driver.)
Patch is tested and working, both with new and old devices.

This device is not a serial port, but a virtual CD-ROM device. For
example with my Novatel MC950D:

After some time (ca. 5min) or if virtual CD is ejected, device id
changes to 1410:4400:

Variable name says that 0x5010 is a Novatel U727, but searching in

the proposed patch allows the ET502HS HDSPA modem to be handled by the

The file drivers/usb/serial/iuu_phoenix.c uses "int" for flags. This can
cause hard to find bugs on some architectures. This patch converts the flags
to use "long" instead.
This bug was discovered by doing an allyesconfig make on the -rt kernel where
checks are done to ensure all flags are of size sizeof(long).

if you actually pass the interface number. :-P
This should help with devices that have important pseudo-serial ports
that aren't on the first interface in the device.

The ipaq module supports devices with one endpoint only. Some devices,
e.g. Yakumo Delta 300, have more than one endpoint.
This patch fixes support for devices having up to 2 endpoints which used
to work on older kernel versions.

The cypress app note for the M8 states that for the USB low speed
version of the part, throughput is effectively limited to 800
bytes/sec. So if we were to try a faster baud rate in such cases then
we risk overrun errors on receive. Best to just identify this case
and limit the rate to 4800 baud or less (by ignoring any request to
set a faster rate). The old baud rate setting code was somewhat
fragile; this change also hopefully makes it easier in the future to
better checking / limiting.

Remove a NULL check in cypress_m8; the check is useless in this
context because it is referenced earlier in the same code path thus
the kernel would be oops'ed before reaching this point anyway. (And
it's really pointless here anyway; if this pointer somehow is NULL the
driver is going to have serious problems in many other places.)

Earthmate LT-20 devices (both "old" and "new" versions) can't tolerate
a GET_CONFIG command. The original Earthmate has no trouble with
this. Presumably other non-Earthmate devices are still OK as well.
This change disables the use of GET_CONFIG for cases where it is known
not to work.

cypress_m8: Packet format is separate from characteristic size
The Cypress app note states that when using an 8 byte packet buffer
size that the packet format is modified (to be more compact). However
I have since discovered that newer DeLorme Earthmate LT-20 devices
(those that are low speed USB with 8 byte packet size) STILL use the
format that is really supposed to correspond to 32 byte packets.
Further confusing things is the subsequent discovery that there are
actually two different types of LT-20 - older LT-20's use 32 byte
packets which is probably why this issue wasn't originally
encountered. The solution here is to flag the packet format
separately from the buffer size. Then at initialization time,
identify the correct combination and set it up. This is a critical
fix for anyone with a newer LT-20. Older devices and non-Earthmate
devices should remain unaffected by this change. (If other devices
behave in this, uh, unexpected manner, it's now just a simple 1 line
change to fix them as well (change the pkt_fmt member for that
device). Default behavior with this patch is still to drive the
format as per the app-note; of course for Earthmate devices this is
overridden.

Don't hardcode the feature buffer size; use sizeof() instead. That
way we can easily specify the size in a single spot. Speaking of the
feature buffer size, the Cypress app note (and further testing with a
DeLorme Earthmate) suggests that this size should be 5 not 8 bytes.

git-conflict fixups (ie: about 1000 times/day).
I don't think the zillion "<" and ">" characters are very useful and removing
them makes my life that little bit easier.

None of these files use any of the functionality promised by
asm/semaphore.h. It's possible that they rely on it dragging in some
unrelated header file, but I can't build all these files, so we'll have
fix any build failures as they come up.

The num_interrupt_in, num_bulk_in, and other checks in the usb-serial
code are just wrong, there are too many different devices out there with
different numbers of endpoints. We need to just be sticking with the
device ids instead of trying to catch this kind of thing. It broke too
many different devices.
This fixes a large number of usb-serial devices to get them working
properly again.

The modem was detected, the ttyUSB{0,1,2} appeared, a call could be
made, and the expected data rate was achieved. Tested for an hour or
two, total of 100Mb. I shall do more testing.

Fixes the keyspan driver after the addition of additional
checking of driver requirements introduced in usb-serial.c
commit 063a2da8f0. The initialization
of the keyspan usb_serial_driver structs were not initializing the
num_interrupt_out field and the additional checking was rejecting
the end point so the driver wouldn't finish initializing.
This commit initializes the fields to NUM_DONT_CARE.
It works for the keyspan USA-49WG and doesn't break the USA-19HS
which are the two keyspan devices I have to test with.

Fixes a bug/inconsistency revealed by the additional sanity checking in
commit 063a2da8f0
introduced in the original 2.6.24 branch.
The Handspring Visor / PalmOS 4 device structure defines .num_bulk_out=2
but the usb-serial probe returns num_bulk_out=3, triggering the check in
the above commit and forcing a bail out when the device (a Garmin iQue in
my case) attempts to connect. The patch bumps the expected number of
endpoints to 3.
FWIW, this patch will probably solve the following kernel bug report for
Treo users (identical symptoms, different model PalmOS units):

The changes introduced in commit
063a2da8f0 changed the semantics of the
num_interrupt_in, num_interrupt_out, num_bulk_in and num_bulk_out
entries of the usb_serial_driver struct to be the number of endpoints
the device has when probed.
This patch changes the ti_1port_device usb_serial_driver struct to
reflect this change. The single port devices only have 1
bulk_out endpoint in their initial configuration, and so this patch
changes the number of other types to NUM_DONT_CARE.
The same change probably needs doing to the ti_2port_device struct,
but I don't have a two port device at hand.

while I was adding autosuspend to that driver I noticed a few issues.
You were having DMAed buffers as a part of a structure.
This will fail on platforms that are not DMA-coherent (arm, sparc, ppc, ...)

Nobody should be using the generic usb-serial for anything other than
testing. Still, it's not a good thing that it's easy to lock up. There
is a traceback from NMI oopser here:

But in short, if a line discipline has a chance to echo anything, input
can loop back a write method. So, don't call tty_flip_buffer_push from
under a lock taken on write path.

this driver uses usb_get_intfdata() == NULL as a test for disconnect().
You must not do that as this races with probe(). By the time you test
your erstwhile interface may already be somebody else's interface.
This fixes the close() method of cypress_m8 to use the recently introduced
flag and use locking against disconnect() where required in close().

This fixes a problem where the mos7720 driver will make io to a device from
which it has been logically disconnected. It does so by introducing a flag by
which the generic usb serial code can signal the subdrivers their
disconnection and appropriate locking.

When building an external module, the ezusb_* functions are not defined
if we haven't loaded any built'in module that use them (whiteheat,
keyspan, ...).

port of the FT2232C is used for JTAG, and only the second port is available as
UART.
I have thus renamed ftdi_olimex_{probe,quirk} to ftdi_jtag_{probe,quirk} and
added vendor/product ID's for the OpenMoko Neo1973 Debug Board as well as the
OOCDlink device.
I've also updated the KERN_INFO message sent to userspace to remove the word
'olimex' and an extra '\n' that was causing an empty line in dmesg.

Without this fix, the pl2303 usb-serial adapter would not suspend properly
unless it had been opened first. A pl2303 type_1 chip will still break if the
system is hibernated while the RS-232 connector is powered by another system.
This was broken before, and a reset resume does not fix it. All other suspend
and autosuspend scenarios work with ATEN pl2303 adaptors with HX and type_1 chips.

Claim the interface for a USB to serial converter when the tty is open,
and release the interface when the tty is closed.
If a driver doesn't provide a resume function, use the generic resume
instead.
Make sure the generic resume function does not submit the URBs if we're
coming back from autosuspend. On autoresume, we know that the open
function will be called next, which will attempt to submit the URBs. If
we submit them in the resume function, the open will fail.
This works for:
- autosuspend
- suspending with the tty open or closed
- hibernate with the tty closed
A hibernate (or a suspend that causes the USB subsystem to lose power)
has issues. If you have the tty open when you hibernate, a new tty will
be created when the device re-enumerates during resume.

The usb serial method set_termios() is called for the first time from
open() method in order to set up the termios structure with the default
device's settings, ignoring the current settings. Once it's initialized,
the next set_termios() calls will update the device with the
tty->termios settings.
Currently USB serial console code calls the driver open() method without
a tty and after that will allocate a fake tty and termios so the command
line arguments can be applied to the device
(console=ttyUSB0,115200,...). This makes the driver overwrite the
termios with the default settings and not applying the command line
options.
This patch changes usb_console_setup() to allocate the fake tty and
termios before the open() method is called.

When a usb serial adapter is used as console, the usb serial console
driver bumps the open_count on the port struct used but doesn't attach
a real tty to it (only a fake one temporaly). If this port is opened later
using the regular character device interface, the open method won't
initialize the port, which is the expected, and will receive a brand new
tty struct created by tty layer, which will be stored in port->tty.
When the last close is issued, open_count won't be 0 because of the
console usage and the port->tty will still contain the old tty value. This
is the last ttyUSB<n> close so the allocated tty will be freed by the
tty layer. The usb_serial and usb_serial_port are still in use by the
console, so port_free() won't be called (serial_close() ->
usb_serial_put() -> destroy_serial() -> port_free()), so the scheduled
work (port->work, usb_serial_port_work()) will still run. And
usb_serial_port_work() does:

I work with a group of people on a free home automation tool called
FHEM. Some of the users own more than one USB-serial device by ELV. The
ftdi_sio driver has most of the ELV devices disabled by default and
needs to be re-enabled every time you get a new kernel. Additionally a
new device (EM 1010 PC - enegry monitor) is missing in the list.
Currently our users have to follow the instructions we provide at
http://www.koeniglich.de/fhem/linux.html ... However, to some users it
is too complicated to compile their own kernel module.
We are aware that you can specify one additional device using the
vendor/product option of the module. But lot's of users own more than
one device.

Cleaning out all the incorrect 'no change made' checks for termios
settings showed up a problem with the PL2303. The hardware here seems to
lose sync and bits if you tell it to make no changes. This shows up with
a real world application.
To fix this the driver check for meaningful hardware changes is restored
but doing the tests correctly and as a tty layer function so it doesn't
get duplicated wrongly everywhere if other drivers turn out to need it.

This adds a device ID for the Aerocomm Radio Modem, which uses the
cp2102. I'm sure changing num_bulk_in/num_bulk_out to NUM_DONT_CARE
is the wrong fix, but this is the only device I have with a cp2102,
so I have no idea what a good global value would be, if there is one.
Zero didn't work with this device.

In commit acd2a847e7 usb_serial_generic_write()
disables interrupts when taking &port->lock which is also taken in
usb_serial_generic_read_bulk_callback() resulting in an inconsistent lock state
due to the latter not disabling interrupts on the local cpu. Fix that by
disabling interrupts in the latter call site also.

USB: usbserial - fix potential deadlock between write() and IRQ
usb_serial_generic_write() doesn't disable interrupts when taking port->lock,
and could therefore deadlock with usb_serial_generic_read_bulk_callback()

The ch341 currently doesn't support most of the hardware setting. So to keep
the termios data right we propogate the old termios hardware values back then
encode the speed.

This patch (as997) fixes a bug in the USB serial core. The core needs
to pay attention to drivers' requirements regarding the number and
type of endpoints a device has.
At the same time, the patch changes the NUM_DONT_CARE constant (which
is stored in a single-byte field) from -1 to a safer, unsigned value.
It also improves the kerneldoc for several fields in the
usb_serial_driver structure.
Finally, the patch replaces a list_for_each() with list_for_each_entry().

Funsoft has a bogus ioctl handler doing bogus termios handling in a bogus
manner. Fortunately we can simply delete all the bogus bits and get the
right default behaviour !

This patch implements a USB serial port driver for the Winchiphead
CH341 USB-RS232 Converter. This chip also implements an IEEE 1284
parallel port, I2C and SPI, but that is not supported by the driver.

This patch adds an additional device ID to the cp2101 USB serial
driver. This device is a Gemalto Prox-PU or CU contactless card reader
(ISO14443-A/B and Mifare). The reader is a standard Gemalto serial
proximity reader using the Gemalto Block Protocol (see reader's
documentation) bundled with a built-in CP2102 for serial/USB
conversion.

the iuu_phoenix driver submits another URB from a completion handler.
This dictates a certain order of calls to usb_kill_urb() in kill_traffic().
As other drivers may do it the other way round, we need to use both
orders in kill_traffic().
This patch does so and should be merged before iuu_phoenix is merged.

Some usb-serial devices (e.g. certain Edgeport models) have more than
one serial port on the same USB device/interface.
Currently the only way to distinguish these ports in userspace is by
their minor device number: the driver makes them consecutive and in
stable order.
However, for the purpose of stable naming with udev this is
insufficient: when udev handles the ADD event for one of the ports it
doesn't know what minor number the other one has.
To make stable naming easier, export the port number via sysfs.

The attached (mostly trivial) patches adds support for the Evolution
Scorpion Robots.
Evolution Robotics supplies a patch against 2.6.8 with their
software. My patch is based on their work, so I don't know if I can
sign it off, or if you need some Evolution people to do this (which
might be hard).
The patch adds device ID's for some robots which is trivial.

This patch contains two fixes submitted by Ondrej Palkovsky:
- the 'ACK' packet is sent after the transfer of the USB packet is
completed, i.e. in the write_callback function. Because the close
function sends the 'abort' command, a parameter is added that allows
the caller of garmin_write_bulk to specify, if the 'ack' should be
propagated to the serial link or dimissed.
This fixes the problem with gpsbabel, it has sent several packets that
were acknowledged before they were sent to the GPS and GpsBabel closed
the device - thus effectively cancelled all outstanding requests in the
queue.
- removed the APP_RESP_SEEN and APP_REQ_SEEN flags and changed
them into counters. It evades USB reset of the gps on every device close.

It's complaining that we dereference 'edge_port' in line 2799 which
makes the test of that pointer against NULL in 2800 pointless, since if
edge_port was actually NULL we'd have crashed already before reaching
line 2800.
Reading the edge_open() function it seems to me that the pointer
returned by usb_get_serial_port_data(serial->port[i]) and stored in
'edge_port' can never actually be NULL here, so the test is entirely
superfluous (even if it could be NULL it would be pointless here,
ignoring the then possible crash in that case, since both
edge_buf_free() and kfree() can handle being passed NULL pointers.
This patch removes the pointless conditional (and also makes a few
tiny style corrections now that I was in the area anyway).

Coverity (1709, 1710, 1711, 1712, 1713) actually flagged these as
REVERSE_INULLs (NULL check performed after dereference). But looking at
the other drivers I can't see any similar tests and the USB core already
makes sure urb is non-null - so might as well get rid of the checks.
