The patch 'ath9k: fix a buffer leak in A-MPDU completion' addressed the
issue of running out of buffers/descriptors in the tx path if a STA is
deleted while tx status feedback is still pending.
The remaining issue is that the skbs of the buffers are not reclaimed,
leaving a memory leak.
This patch fixes this issue by running the buffers through
ath_tx_complete_buf(), ensuring that the pending frames counter is also
updated.

AR5008+ and AR9003 currently use two separate implementations of the
ath9k_hw_loadnf function. There are three main differences:
- PHY registers for AR9003 are different
- AR9003 always uses 3 chains, earlier versions are more selective
- The AR9003 variant contains a fix for NF load timeouts
This patch merges the two implementations into one, storing the
register array in the ath_hw struct. The fix for NF load timeouts is
not just relevant for AR9003, but also important for earlier hardware,
so it's better to just keep one common implementation.

Occasionally the hardware can send out tx status information with the wrong
TID. In that case, the BA status cannot be trusted and the aggregate
must be retransmitted.

If the receive path gets stuck, a full hardware reset is necessary to
recover from it. If this happens during a scan, the whole scan might fail,
as each channel change bypasses the full reset sequence.
Fix this by resetting the fast channel change flag if stopping the
receive path fails.
This will reduce the number of error messages that look like this:

On AR9285, the antenna switch configuration register uses more than just
16 bits. Because of an arbitrary mask applied to the EEPROM value that
stores this configuration, diversity was broken in some cases, leading
to a significant degradation in signal strength.
Fix this by changing the callback to return a 32 bit value and remove
the arbitrary mask.

When ath_tx_complete_aggr() is called, it's responsible for returning
all buffers in the linked list. This was not done when the STA lookup
failed, leading to a race condition that could leak a few buffers when
a STA just disconnected.
Fix this by immediately returning all buffers to the free list in this case.

It looks like it might be possible for a TID to be paused, while still
holding some queued buffers, however ath_tx_node_cleanup currently only
iterates over active TIDs.
Fix this by always checking every allocated TID for the STA that is being
cleaned up.

Commit eed8e22f01 added support for using
multicast key lookup to support per-vif/sta keys for AP and ad-hoc.
Unfortunately, it also introduced a crash in ad-hoc mode when the sta
pointer is NULL, which happens when setting up an interface with WEP
keys. This patch fixes it by falling back to the assigned key index.

ath9k_hw_check_alive() occasionally returns false, as the hardware
is still processing data in a specific state. Fix this issue by
repeating the test a few times with longer delay inbetween attempts.
This gets rid of excessive hardware resets that appear frequently on
some AR9132 based devices, but could also happen on AR9280.

When issuing a reset, the TSF value is lost in the hardware because of
the 913x specific cold reset. As with some AR9280 cards, the TSF needs
to be preserved in software here.
Additionally, there's an issue that frequently prevents a successful
TSF write directly after the chip reset. In this case, repeating the
TSF write after the initval-writes usually works.
This patch detects failed TSF writes and recovers from them, taking
into account the delay caused by the initval writes.

The 'bf_retries' field of the ath_buf structure was used for both
software retries (AMPDU subframes) and hardware retries (legacy
frames). This led to a wrong retry count being reported for the A-MPDU
rate control stats.
This patch changes the code to no longer use bf_retries for reporting
retry counts, but instead always using the real on-chip retry count
from the ath_tx_status.
Additionally, if the first subframe of an A-MPDU was not acked, the tx
status report is submitted along with the first acked subframe, which
may not contain the correct rates in the tx info.
This is easily corrected by saving the tx rate info before looping over
subframes, and then copying it back once the A-MPDU status report is
submitted.
In my tests this change improves throughput visibly.

It is possbile that the transmission of paprd test frame
might not get completed in 100ms if tx is stuck. Freeing
this skb upon timeout in ath_paprd_calibrate() will result
in accessing already freed memory when the associated pending
buffer is drained in txq. This patch fixes this issue.

There are few places where ANI is started without checking
if it is right to start. This might lead to a case where ani
timer would be left undeleted and cause improper memory acccess
during module unload. This bug is clearly exposed with
paprd support where the driver detects tx hang and does a
chip reset. During this reset ani is (re)started without checking
if it needs to be started. This would leave a timer scheduled
even after all the resources are freed and cause a panic.
This patch introduces a bit in sc_flags to indicate if ani
needs to be started in sw_scan_start() and ath_reset().
This would fix the following panic. This issue is easily seen
with ar9003 + paprd.

Some vendors require the LED to be ON always irrespective of any
radio activity. Introducing a module parameter to disable blinking,

The LowPower array writes disables the PLL when ASPM is enabled.
The host driver makes quite a few calls to ath9k_hw_configpcipowersave()
and these same calls also need to ensure the PLL is off when they issue

IBSS requires the cwmin and cwmax to be respected when
we reset the txqueues on AR9003 otherwise the distribution
of beacons will be balanced towards the AR9003 card first
preventing equal contention for air time for other peers
on the IBSS.
Without this IBSS will work but only the AR9003 card will be
be issuing beacons on the IBSS.

ath9k tries to prevent WMM queue tx buffer starvation caused by
traffic on different queues by limiting the number of pending frames
in a tx queue (tracked in the ath_buf structure). This had a leak
issue, because the a skb can be reassigned to a different ath_buf
in the tx path, causing the pending frame counter to become inaccurate.
To fix this, track the number of frames in an array in the softc,
using the mac80211 queue mapping as index.

AR5416 and all newer chipsets use a 32 bit rx timestamp, so there
is no need to keep the 15 bit timestamp extending logic around.
This patch removes ath9k_hw_extend_tsf (replaced by a call to
ath9k_hw_gettsf64), and reduces the frequency of TSF reads, which
can improve performance in some cases.
This change also has the side effect of making rx timestamps
more accurate.

ath_get_mac80211_qnum() expects the queue 'subtype'
(internal ID for the WMM AC) as argument when looking up
the mac80211 queue, however ath_wake_mac80211_queue provides
txq->axq_qnum instead, which contains the hardware queue
number. Fix this by keeping track of the WMM class ID in
the txq data structure.

This adds support for ANI for AR9003. The implementation for
ANI for AR9003 is slightly different than the one used for
the older chipset families. It can technically be used for
the older families as well but this is not yet fully tested
so we only enable the new ANI for the AR5008, AR9001 and AR9002
families with a module parameter, force_new_ani.
The old ANI implementation is left intact.
Details of the new ANI implemention:
* ANI adjustment logic is now table driven so that each ANI level
setting is parameterized. This makes adjustments much more
deterministic than the old procedure based logic and allows
adjustments to be made incrementally to several parameters per
level.
* ANI register settings are now relative to INI values; so ANI
param zero level == INI value. Appropriate floor and ceiling
values are obeyed when adjustments are combined with INI values.
* ANI processing is done once per second rather that every 100ms.
The poll interval is now a set upon hardware initialization and
can be picked up by the core driver.
* OFDM error and CCK error processing are made in a round robin
fashion rather than allowing all OFDM adjustments to be made
before CCK adjustments.
* ANI adjusts MRC CCK off in the presence of high CCK errors
* When adjusting spur immunity (SI) and OFDM weak signal detection,
ANI now sets register values for the extension channel too
* When adjusting FIR step (ST), ANI now sets register for FIR step
low too
* FIR step adjustments now allow for an extra level of immunity for
extremely noisy environments
* The old Noise immunity setting (NI), which changes coarse low, size
desired, etc have been removed. Changing these settings could affect
up RIFS RX as well.
* CCK weak signal adjustment is no longer used
* ANI no longer enables phy error interrupts; in all cases phy hw
counting registers are used instead
* The phy error count (overflow) interrupts are also no longer used
for ANI adjustments. All ANI adjustments are made via the polling
routine and no adjustments are possible in the ISR context anymore
* A history settings buffer is now correctly used for each channel;
channel settings are initialized with the defaults but later
changes are restored when returning back to that channel
* When scanning, ANI is disabled settings are returned to (INI) defaults.
* OFDM phy error thresholds are now 400 & 1000 (errors/second units) for
low/high water marks, providing increased stability/hysteresis when
changing levels.
* Similarly CCK phy error thresholds are now 300 & 600 (errors/second)

calibration upon a scan. This cannot be ported to the
older ANI implementation unless default ANI values from
the ANI are also used upon a scan. This is essentially

The AR9003 hardware family will use a slightly modified ANI
implementation which has not yet been tested on the other hardware
families. To allow for this new ANI implementation a few ANI
calls need to be abstracted away. This patch just allows for
each hardware family to declare their own ANI ops and annotates
the current ANI implementation as old.

We get an MIB interrupt when we hit certain PHY error counter
thresholds. If ANI is disabled but the MIB interrupt is enabled
we'll keep around the old MIB interrupt causes.
Since ath9k disables the MIB interrupt when ANI is disabled
this is not a fix, but more of a sanity fix in case we ever
need the MIB interrupt enabled but disabling ANI.

The clock rate was assumed to be static but it actually
changes depending on the mode of operation, correct this
to help improve the calcuation of the listenTime for ANI.
This change will help adjust ANI more accurately on different
PHY thresholds.

The non-irqsafe aggregation start/stop done
callbacks are currently only used by ath9k_htc,
and can cause callbacks into the driver again.
This might lead to locking issues, which will
only get worse as we modify locking. To avoid
trouble, remove the non-irqsafe versions and
change ath9k_htc to use those instead.

The following commit added an entry in 11na and 11ng rate
table but missed to update its rate count field. This
inconsistency between the rate count and the actual number
of rates in the table will leave out the final rate entry
(mcs15 with half gi in ht40) while forming the valid
rate indices. Not having mcs15+shortGI in ht40 will have
a performance impact (on max throughput) of about 10% both
in nght40 and naht40 mode.

If buffer is to be accessed by cpu after dma is over, but
between dma mapping and dma unmapping, we should use
dma_sync_single_for_cpu to sync the buffer between cpu with
device. And dma_sync_single_for_device is used to let
device gain the buffer again.
v2: Felix pointed out dma_sync_single_for_device is needed to return
buffer to device if an unsuccessful status bit check is found.

Because there is a limited number of tx buffers available, once the
queue has been filled to a certain point, ath9k needs to stop accepting
new frames from mac80211. In order to prevent a full WMM queue from
stopping another queue with fewer frames, this patch limits the number
of queued frames to a quarter of the total available tx buffers, minus
some reserved frames to be used for other purposes (e.g. beacons).
Because tx buffers are reserved for frames when they're staged in
software queues as well, the actual queue depth cannot be used for
this, so this patch stores a reference to the tx queue in the ath_buf
struct and keeps track of the total number of pending frames.

The MIB counters used by ANI have to be disabled
on the host because the FW doesn't do it on the target side.

Disable the radio only when mac80211 indicates it,
through the IEEE80211_CONF_CHANGE_IDLE flag.
Not handling this properly will result in multiple
calls to radio_disable() even though the radio is
already idle.

This patch revamps IDLE power save handling in the driver.
Two separate functions (radio enable/disable) are introduced,
because the semantics of radio handling is just not the same
as the start()/stop() callbacks. For example, the HW must not
be disabled, instead, the PHY has to be disabled in radio_disable().
Also, the HW has to be reset properly in radio enable/disable and
certain registers have to be programmed only once, in the
start() callback.
The radio_enable() routine doesn't need the PS wrappers since
we set the HW power mode to AWAKE anyway before calling it.

Rather than doing a series of RMWs, calculate the
value to be written to the register in question and
do a single REGWRITE. This improves bringup time.
This depends on the analog_shiftreg configuration option,
which is currently buggy. For AP mode, a delay of 100us
has to be the default. For station mode, this knob has to
be enabled on a per-case basis, though it is a little
unclear on when to enable a delay. This can be fixed later though.

This patch replaces the buggy 'ath9k: Group Key fix for VAPs' change.
For AP mode group keys, use the BSSID as lookup mac address, with
the multicast keysearch bit set.
For IBSS mode, use the peer's MAC address with multicast keysearch.
For STA mode, keep using the group key slots.

If a MAC address for a key table entry is flagged with the
multicast bit (0x01), indicate to the hardware that multicast
lookup instead of unicast lookup should be used. The multicast
bit itself never makes it to the actual keytable entry register,
as it is shifted out.

This check has always been after a dereference since the first commit a
couple months ago. Looking through the code, it looks like "wmi" can't

The snprintf() function returns the number of bytes that *would* have
been written (not counting the NULL terminator) and that can potentally
be more than the size of the buffer.
In this patch if there were one liners where string clearly fits into
the buffer, then I changed snprintf to sprintf(). It's confusing to use
the return value of snprintf() as a limitter without verifying that it's
smaller than size. This is what initially caught my attention here.
If we use the return value of sprintf() instead future code auditors will
assume we've verified that it fits already.
Also I did find some places where it made sense to use the return value
after we've verified that it is smaller than the buffer size.
Finally the read_file_rcstat() function added an explicit NULL terminator
before calling snprintf(). That's unnecessary because snprintf() will
add the null terminator automatically.

This enables the baseband watchdog events for the AR9003
family on ath9k. Upon an a baseband watchdog interrupt we reset
the hardware, this should address corner case conditions where
normal operation can stall. Enable ATH_DBG_RESET to be able
to review details of the bb watchdog interrupt once it happens.
If you're curious how often this happens just grep the debugfs
interrupt file.

The baseband watchdog will monitor blocks of the baseband
through timers and will issue an interrupt when things are
detected to be stalled. It is only available on the AR9003
family.

ath9k: Remove ATH9K_TX_SW_ABORTED and introduce a bool for this purpose
Wrong buffer is checked for bf_tx_aborted field in ath_tx_num_badfrms(),
this may result in a rate scaling with wrong feedback (number
of unacked frames in this case). It is the last one in the chain
of buffers for an aggregate frame that should be checked.
Also it misses the initialization of this field in the buffer,
this may lead to a situation where we stop the sw retransmission
of failed subframes associated to this buffer.

With VEOL, Beacon transmission in ad-hoc does not currently work.
I believe for larger ad-hoc networks, VEOL is too unreliable, as
it can get beacon transmissions stuck during synchronization.
Use SWBA based beacon trasmission similar to AP mode instead.

The functionality to keep the device awake until it is done with
the rx of any mcast/bcast frames which are pending on AP should
also be added to the hardwares which support auto sleep feature.
This patch fixes frequent failures in ARP resolution when it is
initiated by the other end. Currently auto sleep is enabled only
for ar9003 in ath9k.

We tried to squeeze as much AR9003 support into this kernel
release cycle but there are a few features which are still
being tested and developed. Some of these features are critical
to the stable operation of AR9003 so for now disable AR9003 support
all together. This will get re-enabled once all necessary features
are in place but very likely will not happen for 2.6.35.

This patch removes from drivers/net/ all the unnecessary
return; statements that precede the last closing brace of
void functions.
It does not remove the returns that are immediately
preceded by a label as gcc doesn't like that.
It also does not remove null void functions with return.

Remove the double swapping of the descriptor data structure, instead
keep it little-endian (native format of the eeprom data), and byteswap
on access.
This allows sparse to verify endian access to the eeprom struct.

The ready message from the target could be processed
before the host HW init has completed. In this case,
htc_process_target_rdy() would assume the target has timed
out, when it hasn't. Fix this by checking if the target
has sent the ready message properly.

ath9k_common (used by ath9k and ath9k_htc) trusts the frames
blessed by hardware as OK are infact correct even if the rate
seen by the driver is unrecognized. ath9k_common just treats
these frames in mac80211 as frames as frames under 1 mbps rate.
It seems this might not be the best thing to do as other parts of
the frame might not be valid so just drop these frames for now.

This has no real functional change, this just moves the setting the
the mac80211 rate index into ath9k_process_rate(). This allows us
to eventually make ath9k_process_rate() return a negative value
in case we have detected a specific case rate situation which should
have been ignored.

The current way of managing beaconing in ad-hoc
mode has a subtle race - the beacon obtained from mac80211
is freed in the SWBA handler rather than the TX
completion routine. But transmission of beacons goes
through the normal SKB queue maintained in hif_usb,
leading to a situation where __skb_dequeue() in the TX
completion handler goes kaput.
Fix this by simply getting a beacon from mac80211 for
every SWBA and free it in its completion routine.

Atheros hardware supports receiving frames that span multiple
descriptors and buffers. In this case, the rx status of every
descriptor except for the last one is invalid and may contain random
data. Because the driver does not support this, it needs to drop such
frames.

If bit 29 is set, MAC H/W can attempt to decrypt the received aggregate
with WEP or TKIP, eventhough the received frame may be a CRC failed
corrupted frame. If this bit is set, H/W obeys key type in keycache.
If it is not set and if the key type in keycache is neither open nor
AES, H/W forces key type to be open. But bit 29 should be set to 1
for AsyncFIFO feature to encrypt/decrypt the aggregate with WEP or TKIP.

TX interrupt mitigation reduces the number of interrupts
by addressing several interrupt actions (AR_IMR_TXOK,
AR_IMR_TXDESC) all in one interrupt so when enabling
it discard setting the other interrupts.
Without this TX interrupt mitigation would actually
increase the number of interrupts two-fold. We still
leave TX interrupt mitigation disabled as it is still
being tested.

When the noisefloor calibration times out, do not load -50 into
the registers, since this might cause rx issues. Instead, leave
enough time for the noise floor calibration to complete until
the next check.

A bunch of validation and processing in the RX IRQ handler
can be moved to the RX tasklet. The IRQ handler is
already heavy, with the memory allocation for handling
stream mode. Also, a memcpy of 40 bytes for every packet
can be avoided in the handler.

All commands to the target are disabled when the device
is unplugged, but a normal module unload has to be
differentiated from this case, as we could still receive
data in the RX endpoint. Fix this by checking if the
device is attached or not.

My patch "ath9k_htc: Handle WMI timeouts properly" introduced
a race condition in WMI command processing. The last issued command
should be stored _before_ issuing a WMI command. Not doing this
would result in the WMI event IRQ dropping correct command responses
as invalid.
Fix this race by storing the command id correctly.

When handling the REGIN callback, processing
the incoming data first should be the preferred
mode of operation. Allocation of a new SKB may fail,
in which case, the URB will not be resubmitted.

So, apparently there is a USB reboot command
that the target accepts. Using this instead of
usb_reset_device() fixes the issue of "descriptor read error"
that pops up on repeated load/unload.

This patch simplifies URB management for transmission,
by removing the 'FLUSH' variable (which is not needed,
since we can determine if the URB has been killed by
looking at the URB status), and also handling the STOP

When I set up multiple VAPs with ath9k, I encountered an issue that
the traffic may be lost after a while.
The detailed phenomenon is
1. After a while the clients connected to one of these VAPs will get
into a state that no broadcast/multicast packets can be transfered
successfully while the unicast packets can be transfered normally.
2. Minutes latter the unitcast packets transfer will fail as well,
because the ARP entry is expired and it can't be freshed due to the
broadcast trouble.
It's caused by the group key overwritten and someone discussed this
issue in ath9k-devel maillist before, but haven't work out a fix yet.
I referred the method in madwifi, and made a patch for ath9k.
The method is to set the high bit of the sender(AP)'s address, and
associated that mac and the group key. It requires the hardware
supports multicast frame key search. It seems true for AR9160.
Not sure whether it's the correct way to fix this issue. But it seems
to work in my test. The patch is attached, feel free to revise it.

If a WMI command has timed out for some reason,
a late WMI response would end up updating the
response region of a new WMI request that has been
issued in the meantime.
Fix this race condition by dropping a WMI response
if a new WMI command has been issued.

According to tests, both TSF lower and upper registers kept counting, so
the higher part could have been updated after the lower part has been
read, as shown in the following log where the upper part is read first
and the lower part next.

tsf = {00000004-0000000b}
This patch corrects this by checking that the upper part has not been
changed while the lower part was read. It has been tested in an IBSS
network where artifical IBSS merges have been done in order to trigger
hundreds of rollover for the TSF lower part.
It follows the logic mentionned by Derek, with only 2 register reads
needed at each additional steps instead of 3 (the minimum number of
register reads is still 3).

LDPC is enabled by the rate control if the its determined
that the target peer supports LDPC. We would have already
intersected the HT capabilities so if our peer supports
LDPC so do we.

The AR9002 hardware code enables aggregation for WEP but
mac80211 doesn't enable aggregation with WEP, and the AR9003
code family does not need this so skip it for now for AR9003
but leave the code and annotate we should eventually consider
how to remove this in consideration for the HAL unification
goals.

Once upon a time the AR_EEPROM_MAC macro was added to let us
add a random attribute to the three 4-bytes of MAC addresses
entries we read from the EEPROM. This was good while a random
high-enough value was used which did not conflict with any
of the already existing enum eeprom_param values. With AR9003
support the enums overlap and it means we either increment
the random offset or just restore the reading logic to match
what the HAL has. I choose to do the later to synchronize
the logic on both code bases.
This should fix reading the MAC address from the EEPROM
on AR9003 hardware.

The AR9003 TX/RX gain is currently initialized with the other
components, so for now AR9003 does not implment this callback,
after hardware bring up we can test moving the TX/RX gain there
as well and if it works well move them to its own callback as
well.
Since all INI stuff is now moved out hw.c no longer needs to
include and touch any original INI headers/structs.

Calibration code touches phy registers and since these
change the calibration code needs to be abstracted.
Noise floor calibration is the only thing remaining but
since the remaining calls only touch the AR_PHY_AGC_CONTROL
register we'll just define that register conditionally, that
will be done separately. The goal is to remove the dependency
of ar9002_phy.h on calib.c
This also adds stubs to be filled for AR9003 calibration code.

The AR9003 hardware family now initializes hardware by block
components and into stages: pre, core and init.

The AR9003 family requires a change on the loop and can also skip
testing the PHY timing registers. This chip test can now be used
by all Atheros hardware families, including legacy. We can
eventually move this out to the generic ath module.

AR9003 supports extended DMA (EDMA), this comes with some
bells and whistles on top of the legacy DMA that we are used
to. Mark AR9003 and later chips EDMA capable.

ANI is still being debugged on AR9003 by our systems team
so it should not yet be enabled yet. When ANI will be
enabled all ANI functionality is expected to be enabled
so fill the ANI functionality to all for AR9003 for now
as well.

The PHY split is easier done in a few steps. First move
the RF ops to the private ops and rename them accordingly.
We split PHY stuff up first for the AR5008 and AR9002
families. There are some callbacks that AR9002 share
with the AR5008 familiy so we set those first, if AR9002
has some different callbacks it will override them upon
hardware init.

This is used only once by ath9k_hw_process_ini() to
write an array of phy registers through REG_WRITE_ARRAY(),
but we already call REG_WRITE_ARRAY() multiple times
on the same caller so just remove this pointless wrapper.
We'll eventually just move the ath9k_hw_process_ini()
caller as an callback to abstract away between different
hardware families.
Although this change is subtle I should note that this
does change the delay pattern on writing the next series
of registers. REG_WRITE_ARRAY() uses a counter for each
register write and does a udelay(1) every 64 writes. By
removing this call it means that the counter is processed
for all the iniBB_RfGain registers and is incremented
on ath9k_hw_process_ini(), before this the after the call
ath9k_hw_write_regs() was made the register counter was
kept at the same index number prior to the call.

ath9k supports the AR5008, AR9001 and AR9002 family of Atheros
chipsets, all 802.11n. The new breed of 802.11n chips, the
AR9003 family will be supported as well soon. To help with its
support we're going to add a few callbacks for hardware routines
which differ considerably instead of adding branch checks for
the revision at runtime.

usb hcd and usb hcd will do dma mapping and unmapping to the buffer
pointed by skb->data, so we should pass a cache-line aligned address.
This patch replace __dev_alloc_skb with alloc_skb to make skb->data
pointed to a cacheline aligned address simply since ath9k-htc does not
skb_push on the skb and pass it to mac80211, also use kfree_skb to free
the skb allocated by alloc_skb(we can use kfree_skb safely in hardirq
context since skb->destructor is NULL always in the path).

Don't modify ah->iniModes, it's supposed to be constant. Instead, apply
the fixup when the data is written to the registers.
Change ath9k_hw_init_eeprom_fix() to only determine whether the fixup is
needed.
This allows similteneous support for AR9220 cards that need AR_AN_TOP2
fixup (such as Ubiquiti SR71-12) and those that don't need it (D-Link
DWA-552 rev A2).

Messages that are generated by the HTC layer
don't have any TX callback endpoints assigned to them.
Consequently, the allocated SKBs are never freed.
Fix this issue by handling this case in the HTC layer
itself.

The maximum number of packets in a single buffer in
stream mode is 10. The driver currently uses 8 - which
caused stack corruption, in the absence of any kind
of OOB checking.
Fixing this to the correct value of 10 fixes the module
unload issue.

RX URBs are automatically freed when the reference
count drops to zero - this currently doesn't happen when
usb_kill_anchored_urbs() is called during unload.
Fix this by dropping the reference count by one during
initial submission.

ah->mask_reg was used to hold different data throughout the driver.
ath9k_hw_init_interrupt_masks() used it to save the value written to
AR_IMR. ath9k_hw_set_interrupts() used it to hold the interrupt mask as
defined in enum ath9k_int. Those masks differ in many bits.
Use ah->imask instead of ah->mask_reg in ath9k_hw_set_interrupts() and
ath9k_hw_updatetxtriglevel(). That's what the code was meant to do.
ah->imask is initialized in ath9k_start(), so we don't need to
initialize it from ah->mask_reg.
Once it's done, ah->mask_reg becomes write-only, so it's replaced with a
local variable in ath9k_hw_init_interrupt_masks().

mac80211 skips drop_unencrypted checks if the driver/firmware has
already taken care of this. In case of ath9k, we must not indicate

Set IEEE80211_HW_RX_INCLUDES_FCS to indicate that
the FCS is present in RX frames. Also, remove a redundant
assignment of skb length and include the FCS_LEN
when checking padding.

ath_tx_status and ath_rx_status data are only necessary for a short
time, until they have been processed and converted into mac80211 data
structures.
Because of that, it makes no sense to keep them tied to the DMA
descriptor, that only wastes precious memory.
This patch allocates the data on stack in the functions that call the
conversion functions from ath9k_hw.

Not setting the opmode properly during initialization
results in the firmware sending up a bunch of packets
before add_interface() has been called, for the first
interface.

Accessing the sta pointer in TX completion without
approprate RCU protection is wrong. Fix this.

The calculation of RX filter is fairly different
between ath9k and ath9k_htc, trying to make this
common between the two drivers would result in code churn.
While at it, remove the handling of PSPOLL filter,
it can be added when(if) AP support is added to ath9k_htc.

percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.
percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

The script does the followings.
* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.
* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.
* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
file.
The conversion was done in the following steps.
1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
files.
2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
inclusions to around 150 files.
3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.
4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.
5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
necessary.
6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.
7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).
* x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
* powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
* sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
* ia64 SMP allmodconfig
* s390 SMP allmodconfig
* alpha SMP allmodconfig
* um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig
8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.
Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

When initializing the PLL on AR9271 we always need
to set the core clock to 117MHz. While at it remove
the baud rate settings for the serial device on the
AR9271, the default settings work well unless you
want to customize it.

Noisefloor calibration involves querying hardware for samples
and storing this information on a history buffer in hardware for
actual noisefloor calibration processing in hardware. The history
buffer supports collecting information for all Atheros hardware,
one history buffer slot for each chain on each channel used for
MIMO operation. For current hardware this means one history
buffer slot for each chain on both the control (or primary) channel
and the extension (or secondary) channel. We know which noisefloor
registers to poke for collecting noisefloor data through the
chainmask.
For AR9285 and AR9271 devices, both 1x1, the chaimmask is defined as
0x9 = 0b0001001. The first four bits represent each chain out of
a maximum of 4 chains [0-3] on the primary channel. The last four
bits represent each chain on the extension channel. A chainmask
of 0x9 therefore indicates chain 1 is active on both the primary
and the extension channel.
AR9271 only requires collecting and storing noisefloor history buffer
data for the first chain on both the control and extension channel
(nfarray[0] and nfarray[3]) so fix the code and avoid which reads
and writes to the history buffer for the other chains.
Since the noisefloor varies depending on the number of chains your
device supports also initialize the noisefloor history buffer with
reasonable values seen on 1x1 devices such as AR9285.

When I initially stumbled upon sequence number problems with PAE frames
in ath9k, I submitted a patch to remove all special cases for PAE
frames and let them go through the normal transmit path.
Out of concern about crypto incompatibility issues, this change was

ath9k: Fix sequence numbers for PAE frames
After a lot of testing, I'm able to reliably trigger a driver crash on
rekeying with current versions with this change in place.
It seems that the driver does not support sending out regular MPDUs with
the same TID while an A-MPDU session is active.
This leads to duplicate entries in the TID Tx buffer, which hits the
following BUG_ON in ath_tx_addto_baw():

I believe until we actually have a reproducible case of an
incompatibility with another AP using no PAE special cases, we should
simply get rid of this mess.
This patch completely fixes my crash issues in STA mode and makes it
stay connected without throughput drops or connectivity issues even
when the AP is configured to a very short group rekey interval.

Currently the rate control tx status update gets called for every
subframe of an A-MPDU, and ath9k marks the frame with the relevant
status update with an internal flag. This not suitable for rate control
algorithms using the standard mac80211 rate control API, so fix this by
using IEEE80211_TX_STAT_AMPDU for marking the correct frames that
should be processed.

The AR_IMR_S2 register sometimes cannot be read correctly. Instead of a
valid value, 0xdeadbeef is returned. The driver has been observed
writing that value back to AR_IMR_S2 after changing a few bits.
Cache the register value in ah->imrs2_reg and always write chached value
to the register.

Handling HT configuration changes involved setting the channel
with the new HT parameters and then issuing a rate_update()
notification to the driver.
This behavior changed after the off-channel changes. Now, the channel
is not updated with the new HT params in enable_ht() - instead, it
is now done when the scan work terminates. This results in the driver
depending on stale information, defaulting to non-HT mode always.
Fix this by passing the new channel type to the driver.

While ath9k does not support RIFS yet, the ability to receive RIFS
frames is currently enabled for most chipsets in the initvals.
This is causing baseband related issues on AR9160 and AR9130 based
chipsets, which can lock up under certain conditions.
This patch fixes these issues by overriding the initvals, effectively
disabling RIFS for all affected chipsets.

In AP mode, ath_beacon_config_ap only restarts the timer if a TSF
restart is requested. Apparently this was added, because this function
unconditionally sets the flag for TSF reset.
The problem with this is, that ath9k_hw_reset() clobbers the timer
registers (specified in the initvals), thus effectively disabling the
SWBA interrupt whenever a card reset without TSF reset is issued
(happens in a few places in the code).
This patch fixes ath_beacon_config_ap to only issue the TSF reset flag
when necessary, but reinitialize the timer unconditionally. Tests show,
that this is enough to keep the SWBA interrupt going after a call to
ath_reset()

When selecting the tx fallback rate, rc.c used a separate variable
'nrix' for storing the next rate index, however it did not use that as
reference for further rate index lowering. Because of that, it ended up
reusing the same rate for multiple multi-rate retry stages, thus
decreasing delivery probability under changing link conditions.
This patch removes the separate (unnecessary) variable and fixes
fallback the way it was intended to work.
This should result in increased throughput and better link stability.

Adding support for setting the coverage class in some cases broke
association and data transfer, as it overwrote the initial ACK timeout
value from the initvals with a smaller value.
I don't know why the new value works in 5 GHz (matches the initval
there), but not in 2.4 GHz (initvals use 64us here), so until the
problem is fully understood, the value should be increased again.

Currently, PAE frames are not assigned proper sequence numbers.
Since sending PAE frames as part of aggregates breaks
crupto with several APs, they are sent as normal MPDUs.
Fix the seqeuence number issue by updating the frame with the
internal sequence number.

Calling ath_bus_cleanup() after ieee80211_free_hw() resulted in access
to common->bus_ops, which is already freed as part of the device data.
Remove the cleanup field in struct ath_bus_ops, as it was never used
properly. Remove ath_bus_cleanup(). Merge cleanup functions in place
of the ath_bus_cleanup() calls. Take care not to use any device data
after ieee80211_free_hw().

IDLE PS (Full Sleep) doesn't work when ifconfig up
is done during Idle unassociated state.

ath9k currently forces hw->max_rate_tries to 4 to work around rate
control inefficiencies. This has some negative side effects, such as
rate_control_send_low also using a maximum of 4 tries, which could
negatively affect reliability of unicast management frames.
This patch pushes the retry limit to the rate control instead, and
allows it to use more tries on the last stage to prevent unnecessary
packet loss.

changed the hw attach code to fix up initialization values only for
dual band devices, however the commit message did not give a reason as
to why this would be useful or necessary.
According to tests by Jorge Boncompte, this breaks at least some
2GHz-only cards, so the code should be changed back to the
unconditional INI fixup.

As all bt packets are priority traffic during bt scan, wifi
will get disconnected when bt scan lasts for few seconds. Fix
this by allocating 10% of bt period time (4.5ms) to wifi fully.

When cleaning up beacon buffers and slots, ath9k currently checks if
sc->ah->opmode is set to a beacon related mode before cleaning up
buffers.
An unfortunate ordering of interface up/down commands can lead to
sc->ah->opmode being set to monitor mode, while there are AP interfaces
present on the same wiphy.
Always cleaning up beacon buffers if present fixes this issue.

Users wishing to tweak tx power want it to happen immediately,
try to respect that. This was tested by Lorenzo by measuring the
received signal strength from an AP with ath9k and the patch.
Changing the tx power on the AP produced these results:
1) iwconfig wlan0 txpower 20 ---> Rx power -37dbm
2) iwconfig wlan0 txpower 15 ---> Rx power -41dbm
3) iwconfig wlan0 txpower 10 ---> Rx power -45dbm
4) iwconfig wlan0 txpower 5 ---> Rx power -51dbm
5) iwconfig wlan0 txpower 0 ---> Rx power -37dbm
The result with 0 is an anomoly and would need to be
addressed through a separate patch.

The Tx DMA descriptor has two kinds of flags that select RTS/CTS usage.
The first one (global for the frame) selects whether RTS/CTS or
CTS-to-self should be used, the second one enables RTS/CTS or
CTS-to-self usage for an individual multi-rate-retry entry.
Previously the code preparing the descriptor only enabled the global
flag, if the first MRR series selected the local one.
Fix this by enabling the global flag if any of the MRR entries need it.
With this patch, rate control can properly select the use of RTS/CTS
for all MRR entries except the first one, which is the default behavior.

Previously ath9k left the initialization of slot timing and ACK/CTS
timeout to the mode specific initvals. This does not handle short vs
long slot in 2.4 GHz and uses a rather strange value for the 2.4 GHz
ACK timeout (64 usec).
This patch uses the proper ath9k_hw functions for setting slot time and
timeouts and also implements the switch between short and long slot
time in 2.4 GHz

The device has to be marked as invalid before
registering the ISR. HW initialization takes place
after the ISR has been registered, and the invalid
flag is eventually cleared in the ->stop() callback.

The newer single chip hardware family of chipsets have not been
experiencing issues with power saving set by default with recent
fixes merged (even into stable). The remaining issues are only
reported with AR5416 and since enabling PS by default can increase
power savings considerably best to take advantage of that feature
as this has been tested properly.

We leave AR5416 with PS disabled by default, that seems to require

was not checking all possible tx error conditions. This could possibly
lead to throughput issues due to slow rate control adaption or missed
retransmissions of failed A-MPDU frames.

AMDPDU actions poke hardware for TX operation, as such
we want to turn hardware on for these actions. AMDPU RX operations
do not require hardware on as nothing is done in hardware for
those actions. Without this we cannot guarantee hardware has
been programmed correctly for each AMPDU TX action.

When we remove a IBSS/AP/Mesh interface we stop DMA
but to do this we should ensure hardware is on. Awaken
the device prior to these calls. This should ensure
DMA is stopped upon suspend and plain device removal.

Ensure the device is awake prior to trying to tell hardware
to stop it. Impact of not doing this is we can likely leave
the device in an undefined state likely causing issues with
suspend and resume. This patch ensures harware is where it
should be prior to suspend.

The MIB counters are disabled when doing a chip reset.
Since ANI depends on the MIB registers for its operation, relying
on the contents of said registers during HW reset results in sub-optimal
performance.

When TX DMA termination has failed, the HW has to be reset
completely. Doing a fast channel change in this case is insufficient.

First, we copy/paste the padding stuff from ath9k_tx to ath_tx_cabq since it
needs to same kind of padding, but for internally generated beacons.
Next, software padding done on TX needs to be removed before calling
ieee80211_tx_status. The code was already there in ath_tx_complete but it
was wrong. Fix it by using ath9k_cmn_padpos. This later code has been
tested by sending packets to a monitor interface and reading packets from the
same interface.

This patch fixes a bug in ath9k's tx status check, which
caused mac80211 to consider regularly transmitted unicast frames
as un-acked.
When checking the ts_status field for errors, it needs to be masked
with ATH9K_TXERR_FILT, because this field also contains other fields
like ATH9K_TX_ACKED.
Without this patch, AP mode is pretty much unusable, as hostapd
checks the ACK status for the frames that it injects.

In my setups, ath9k's debugfs files are most of the time much more
useful than the messages generated by enabling CONFIG_ATH_DEBUG along
with the right debug flags.
Since CONFIG_ATH_DEBUG comes with a noticeable overhead on embedded
systems, this patch makes it possible to use the debugfs files without
that option.

Update the beacon queue parameters with best effort queue parameters for
IBSS mode. This reduces the number of beacons generated by ath9k and
ensures a fair beacon distribution when there are multiple IBSS stations.
Also CWmin is quadrupled to achieve the expected percentage of
distribution.

Atheros single stream AR9285 and AR9271 have half the PCU TX FIFO
buffer size of that of dual stream devices. Dual stream devices
have a max PCU TX FIFO size of 8 KB while single stream devices
have 4 KB. Single stream devices have an issue though and require
hardware only to use half of the amount of its capable PCU TX FIFO
size, 2 KB and this requires a change in software.
Technically a change would not have been required (except for frame
burst considerations of 128 bytes) if these devices would have been
able to use the full 4 KB of the PCU TX FIFO size but our systems
engineers recommend 2 KB to be used only. We enforce this through
software by reducing the max frame triggger level to 2 KB.
Fixing the max frame trigger level should then have a few benefits:
* The PER will now be adjusted as designed for underruns when the
max trigger level is reached. This should help alleviate the
bus as the rate control algorithm chooses a slower rate which
should ensure frames are transmitted properly under high system
bus load.
* The poll we use on our TX queues should now trigger and work
as designed for single stream devices. The hardware passes
data from each TX queue on the PCU TX FIFO queue respecting each
queue's priority. The new trigger level ensures this seeding of
the PCU TX FIFO queue occurs as designed which could mean avoiding
false resets and actually reseting hw correctly when a TX queue
is indeed stuck.
* Some undocumented / unsupported behaviour could have been triggered
when the max trigger level level was being set to 4 KB on single
stream devices. Its not clear what this issue was to me yet.

Software padding is done on the TX path and software unpadding is done on the
RX path. This patch corrects the position where the padding occurs. A specific
function computes the pad position and this function is used in the TX and RX
path. This patch has been tested by generating every possible 802.11 frames
with every possible frame_control field and a varying length. This patch is
useful for analyzing non standard 802.11 frames going over the air

When mac80211 was telling us to go into Powersave we listened
and immediately turned RX off. This meant hardware would not
see the ACKs from the AP we're associated with and hardware
we'd end up retransmiting the null data frame in a loop
helplessly.
Fix this by keeping track of the transmitted nullfunc frames
and only when we are sure the AP has sent back an ACK do we
go ahead and shut RX off.

This patch changes ath9k to pass proper MCS indexes and flags
between the RC and the rest of the driver code.
sc->cur_rate_table remains, as it's used by the RC code internally,
but the rest of the driver code no longer uses it, so a potential
new RC for ath9k would not have to update it.

It has been tested with a 802.11 frame generator and by checking the FCS field
of each received frame with the value reported by the Atheros hardware. This
patch is useful if you are trying to analyze non standard 802.11 frame going
over the air.

The entire aggregation code currently operates on the
hw pointer and station addresses, but that needs to
change to make stations purely per-vif; As one step
preparing for that make the aggregation code callable
with the station, or by the combination of virtual
interface and station address.

* Remove a code chunk dealing with operating mode changes.
As noted, all such policy changes are to be done in
add_interface.
* Remove pointless check for empty BSSID.
Also, remove mode checks - mac80211 does all the needed checks.
* Handle enabling/disabling beacon transmission properly.
* Handle beacon interval changes for AP mode.
The original code depended on config_interface() to update
the HW TSF. Since that callback has been removed, handle
it properly.
* Remove unneeded code dealing with key/privacy.
* Set the chainmasks to 1x1 for IBSS when the BSSID is set.
This was happening uncondionally before.

The bit value of AR_GPIO_INPUT_EN_VAL_BT_PRIORITY_BB is wrong, it should
be 0x400 and the number of bits to be right shifted is 10. Having this
wrong value in 0x4054 sometimes affects bt quality on btcoex environment.

Jumbograms are frames put together linked together through
more than one descriptor. For example ath9k_htc will use this
to send from the target a large frame split up into 2 or more
segments. The driver then would be in charge of putting the
frame back together.
When jumbograms are constructed the rx_stats->rs_more will
bet set and rx_stats->rs_status will not have any valid content
as the actual status will only be avialable at the end of
the chained descriptors.

ath9k and ath9k_htc share a lot of common hardware characteristics.
They only differ in that ath9k_htc works with a target CPU and ath9k
works directly with the hardware. ath9k_htc will do *some* things in
the firmware, but a lot of others on the host.
The common 802.11n hardware code is already shared through the ath9k_hw
module. Common helpers amongst all Atheros drivers can use the ath module,
this includes ath5k and ar9170 as users. But there is some common driver
specific helpers which are not exactly hardware code which ath9k and
ath9k_htc can share. We'll be using ath9k_common for this to avoid
bloating the ath module and the common 802.11n hardware module ath9k_hw.
We start by sharing skb pre and post processing in preparation for a hand
off to mac80211.

The skb->cb (control buffer, 48 bytes) is available to the skb
upon skb allocation. You can fill it up imediately after skb
allocation. ath9k was copying onto the skb->cb the data from the
processed skb for mac80211 from a stack struct ieee80211_rx_status
structure. This is unnecessary, instead use the skb->cb for the
rx status immediately after the skb becomes available and DMA
synched.
Additionally, avoid the copy of the skb->cb also for virtual wiphys
as skb_copy() will copy over the skb->cb for us as well.

ath9k virtual wiphys all share the same internal buffer space
for TX but they do not share the mac80211 skb queues. When
ath9k detects it is running low on buffer space to TX it tells
mac80211 to stop sending it skbs its way but it always does
this only for the primary wiphy. This means mac80211 won't know
its best to avoid sending ath9k more skbs on a separate virtual
wiphy. The same issue is present for reliving the skb queue.
Since ath9k does not keep track of which virtual wiphy is hammering
on TX silence all wiphy's TX when we're low on buffer space. When
we're free on buffer space only bother informing the virtual wiphy
which is active that we have free buffers.

When ath9k virtual wiphys are used the sc->hw will not always represent
the active hw, instead we need to get it from the skb->cb private
driver area. This ensures the right hw is used to find a sta for
the TX'd skb.

We use the ieee80211_hw for radio enable/disable but the wrong
structure hw was being used in consideration for virtual wiphys
as each virtual wiphy has its own ieee80211_hw struct.
Just pass the hw struct to ensure we use the right one. This should
fix the hw used and passed for radio enable/disable. This includes
the stoping / starting of the software TX queues so mac80211 doesn't
send us data for a specific virtual wiphy. ath9k already takes care
of pausing virtual wiphys and stopping the respective queues on its
own, but this should handle the idle mac80211 conf calls as well.

ath9k supports its own virtual wiphys. The hardware code
relies on the ieee80211_hw for the present interface but
with recent changes introduced the common->hw was never
updated and is required for virtual wiphys.

The way idle configuration detection was implemented as
busted due to the fact that it assumed the ath9k virtual wiphy,
the aphy, would be marked as inactive if it was not used but
it turns out an aphy is always active if its the only wiphy
present. We need to distinguish between aphy activity and
idleness so we now add an idle bool for the aphy and mark
it as such based on the passed IEEE80211_CONF_CHANGE_IDLE
from mac80211.
Previous to all_wiphys_idle would never be true when using
only one device so we never really were using
IEEE80211_CONF_CHANGE_IDLE -- we never turned the radio
off or on upon IEEE80211_CONF_CHANGE_IDLE changes as radio
changes depended on all_wiphys_idle being true either to
turn the radio on or off. Since it was always false for
one device this code was doing nothing.

Since we have a TODO item to make all station
management dependent on virtual interfaces, I
figured I'd start with pushing such a change
to drivers before more drivers start using the
ieee80211_find_sta() API with a hw pointer and
cause us grief later on.
For now continue exporting the old API in form
of ieee80211_find_sta_by_hw(), but discourage
its use strongly.

Force bias is a fix for usage of AR5416 radios on the 2.4 GHz band
for orientation sensitivity. This was only partially implemented
with the ath9k_hw_decrease_chain_power() but first -- this was being
called for all chipsets which is not correct and second -- it was
missing the actual orientation code.
We now ensure to only enable force bias only for AR5416 and BUG_ON()
on other chipsets. Although ath9k_hw_decrease_chain_power() was enabled
for newer chipsets I suspect that it never ran unless the EEPROM had
ATH9K_ANT_FIXED_A or ATH9K_ANT_FIXED_B for antenna diversity.

ath9k_hw_rfattach() was just calling a helper and this helper was
doing nothing for single-chip devices, and for non single-chip devices
it is just allocating memory for banks to program the RF registers
at a later time. Simplify this by having the hw initialization call
the rf bank allocation directly for external radios.
Also, propagate an -ENOMEM properly now upon failure.

Document what we can about the RF analog front ends (radios)
of Atheros 802.11n devices. What should be clearer now is the
what we do for old pre AR5416 and AR5418 MAC based devices in
comparison to the modern sigle-chip 802.11n solutions.
All devices after AR9280 are single chip and require less
programming -- the RF registers no longer need to be initialized
as they all have the RF analog front end embedded together with
the MAC/BB; this includes the AR9271. Older devices such as the
ones with the AR5416 MACs (PCI) or AR5418 MACs (PCI-E) have an
external 2.4 GHz AR2133 radio or a dual band 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz
AR5133 radio. These external radios require additional programming
of the RF registers.
Clarify which parts are for what devices and which code is
shared. This patch has no functional changes.

This update the register initialization/reset values (aka initvals)
for ar9271 based on the last recommended values on 2009-06-04 by our
systems engineering team.
The changes account for:
* Supporting ar9271 1.0 and ar9271 1.1 together, the difference
is bb_spectral_scan_ena, for 1.0 we'll set this to 0x1.
* Ensuring we get the correct noise floor values -115 ~ -118
when we enable bb_enable_ant_div_lnadiv=0 and
mc_tx_def_ant_sel=1. Previous to this we would get noise
floor values in the range -50 ~ -80. To fix settings for
the registers:
- bb_ch1_xatten1_db
- bb_ch1_xatten2_db
- bb_ch1_xatten1_margin
- bb_ch1_xatten2_margin
- bb_ch1_gain_force
- bb_ch1_xatten2_hyst_margin
- bb_ch1_xatten1_hyst_margin

An extra register was being written to for PA calibration
making the hardware unresponsive, remove it. Hardware

We had 0x9912 but AR_PHY_SPECTRAL_SCAN is 0x9910. By using the
0x9912 we were making the hardware unresponsive. This allows us
to move forward with hardware reset on ar9271 on the ath9k_htc
driver.

Devices with external radios have revisions which we can count on.
On single chip solutions these EEPROM values for these radio revision
also exist but are not meaningful as the radios are embedded onto the

The patch e43419f9:
ath9k: downgrade assert in rc.c for invalid rate
downgraded an ASSERT to a WARN_ON() but also misplaced a
semicolon at the end of the second check. What this did
was force the rate control code to always return the rate
even if we should have warned about it. Since this should
not have happened anymore anyway this fix isn't critical
as the proper rate would have been returned anyway.

When TX is hung, the chip is reset. Ensure that
the chip is awake by using the PS wrappers.

The PA calibration for ar9271 ath9k_hw_9271_pa_cal() can run during
reset or initial calibration, update the PA calibration to account
for that and initialize PA calibration variables for both conditions.

The core driver needs to be stopped and then as a last step the
hardware needs to be stopped and its structure free'd. We do this
by moving the core driver cleanup to a new helper ath_clean_core()
and have ath_cleanup() call it. Only as a last step does
ath_cleanup() now free the hw.

debugfs uses the hardware for several debugfs files as such the
hardware must be initialized and available prior to its usage. The
same applies to when we free the hw structs -- free debufs file
entries prior to free'ing the hardware.

hw code for Atheros 802.11n hardware is commmon between
different chipsets. This moves this code into a separate
module, the next expected user of this code will be
the ath9k_htc module.
The ath9k/ dir is now selected by ATH9K_HW, an option which
gets selected by either ath9k or ath9k_htc, but remains
invisible for user menuconfig configuration. If either
ath9k or ath9k_htc will be compiled into the kernel
ath9k_hw will also be compiled in.

* Get power table offset from the EEPROM instead of using
a hardcoded value of -5 if the EEPROM rev is >= 21.
* Add support in the 4k eeprom code for tx power offset
in case we have a 4k AR9280 implementation.
* Fix tx power accuracy at high powers.

Reduce PLL Settle time and eliminate redundant PLL calls. Also reduce
the LoadNF timeout from 10 msec to 250usec as the 10 msec timeout was
hit with AR9285 in some cases.
