The regmap API supports IO port accessors so we can take advantage of
regmap abstractions rather than handling access to the device registers
directly in the driver.
For the 104-dio-48e we have the following IRQ registers (0xB and 0xF):
Base Address +B (Write): Enable Interrupt
Base Address +B (Read): Disable Interrupt
Base Address +F (Read/Write): Clear Interrupt
Any write to 0xB will enable interrupts, while any read will disable
interrupts. Interrupts are cleared by a write to 0xF. There's no IRQ
status register, so software has to assume that if an interrupt is
raised then it was for the 104-DIO-48E device.

commit 1796f808e4 ("HID: i2c-hid: acpi: Stop setting wakeup_capable")
adjusted the policy to enable wakeup by default if the ACPI tables
indicated that a device was wake capable.
It was reported however that this broke suspend on at least two System76
systems in S3 mode and two Lenovo Gen2a systems, but only with S3.
When the machines are set to s2idle, wakeup behaves properly.
Configuring the GPIOs for wakeup with S3 doesn't work properly, so only
set it when the system supports low power idle.

commit 1796f808e4 ("HID: i2c-hid: acpi: Stop setting wakeup_capable")
changed the policy such that I2C touchpads may be able to wake up the
system by default if the system is configured as such.
However on Clevo NL5xRU there is a mistake in the ACPI tables that the
TP_ATTN# signal connected to GPIO 9 is configured as ActiveLow and level
triggered but connected to a pull up. As soon as the system suspends the
touchpad loses power and then the system wakes up.
To avoid this problem, introduce a quirk for this model that will prevent
the wakeup capability for being set for GPIO 9.

Commit 8eb1f71e7a ("gpiolib: consolidate GPIO lookups") refactors
fwnode_get_named_gpiod() and gpiod_get_index() into a unified
gpiod_find_and_request() helper.
The old functions both initialized their local lookupflags variable to
GPIO_LOOKUP_FLAGS_DEFAULT, but the new code leaves it uninitialized.
This is a problem for at least ACPI platforms, where acpi_find_gpio()
only does a bunch of *lookupflags |= GPIO_* statements and thus relies
on the variable being initialized.
The variable not being initialized leads to:
1. Potentially the wrong flags getting used
2. The check for conflicting lookup flags in gpiod_configure_flags():
"multiple pull-up, pull-down or pull-disable enabled, invalid config"
sometimes triggering, making the GPIO unavailable
Restore the initialization of lookupflags to GPIO_LOOKUP_FLAGS_DEFAULT
to fix this.

"The two large chunks is the header clean-up from Andy and the Qualcomm
DT bindings clean-up from Krzysztof. Each which could give rise to
conflicts, but I haven't seen any.
The YAML conversions happening around the device tree is the biggest
item in the series and is the result of Rob Herrings ambition to
autovalidate these trees against strict schemas and it is paying off
in lots of bugs found and ever prettier device trees. Sooner or later
the transition will be complete, Krzysztof is fixing up all of the
Qualcomm stuff, which is pretty voluminous.
Core changes:
- minor but nice and important documentation clean-ups
New drivers:
- subdriver for the Qualcomm SDM670 SoC
- subdriver for the Intel Moorefield SoC
- trivial support for the NXP Freescale i.MXRT1170 SoC
Other changes and improvements
- major clean-up of the Qualcomm pin control device tree bindings by
Krzysztof
- major header clean-up by Andy
- some immutable irqchip clean-up for the Actions Semiconductor and
Nuvoton drivers
- GPIO helpers for The Cypress cy8c95x0 driver
- bias handling in the Mediatek MT7986 driver
- remove the unused pins-are-numbered concept that never flew"

While any of the GPIO cdev syscalls is in progress, the kernel can call
gpiochip_remove() (for instance, when a USB GPIO expander is disconnected)
which will set gdev->chip to NULL after which any subsequent access will
cause a crash.
To avoid that: use an RW-semaphore in which the syscalls take it for
reading (so that we don't needlessly prohibit the user-space from calling
syscalls simultaneously) while gpiochip_remove() takes it for writing so
that it can only happen once all syscalls return.

There are several places where we can crash the kernel by requesting
lines, unbinding the GPIO device, then calling any of the system calls
relevant to the GPIO character device's annonymous file descriptors:
ioctl(), read(), poll().
While I observed it with the GPIO simulator, it will also happen for any
of the GPIO devices that can be hot-unplugged - for instance any HID GPIO
expander (e.g. CP2112).
This affects both v1 and v2 uAPI.
This fixes it partially by checking if gdev->chip is not NULL but it
doesn't entirely remedy the situation as we still have a race condition
in which another thread can remove the device after the check.

This patch was created using coccinelle and the following semantic patch:

identifier getstatefunc;
identifier driver;
@@
struct pwm_ops driver = {

.get_state = getstatefunc

@p2@

getstatefunc(struct pwm_chip *chip, struct pwm_device *pwm, struct pwm_state *state)
{

plus the actual change of the prototype in include/linux/pwm.h (plus some
manual fixing of indentions and empty lines).
So for now all drivers return success unconditionally. They are adapted

for_each_pci_dev() is implemented by pci_get_device(). The comment of
pci_get_device() says that it will increase the reference count for the
returned pci_dev and also decrease the reference count for the input
pci_dev @from if it is not NULL.
If we break for_each_pci_dev() loop with pdev not NULL, we need to call
pci_dev_put() to decrease the reference count. Add the missing
pci_dev_put() after the 'out' label. Since pci_dev_put() can handle NULL
input parameter, there is no problem for the 'Device not found' branch.
For the normal path, add pci_dev_put() in amd_gpio_exit().

gcdev_register() & gcdev_unregister() would call device_add() &
device_del() (no matter CONFIG_GPIO_CDEV is enabled or not) to
register/unregister device.
However, if device_add() succeeds, some resource (like
struct device_private allocated by device_private_init())
is not released by device_del().
Therefore, after device_add() succeeds by gcdev_register(), it
needs to call put_device() to release resource in the error handle
path.
Here we move forward the register of release function, and let it
release every piece of resource by put_device() instead of kfree().
While at it, fix another subtle issue, i.e. when gc->ngpio is equal
to 0, we still call kcalloc() and, in case of further error, kfree()
on the ZERO_PTR pointer, which is not NULL. It's not a bug per se,
but rather waste of the resources and potentially wrong expectation
about contents of the gdev->descs variable.

Note that this is a RFC patch and not meant to be merged. I looked into
a problem with linux-next-20221110 on the Qualcomm SA8540P automotive
board (sc8280xp) where the UFS host controller would fail to probe due
to repeated probe deferrals when trying to get reset-gpios via
devm_gpiod_get_optional().
of_get_named_gpiod_flags() returns -EPROBE_DEFER, which is caused by
of_gpiochip_match_node_and_xlate() returning 0 since the of_xlate function
pointer is not set for the qcom,sc8280xp-tlmm pinctrl driver. The
pinctrl driver doesn't define one, so of_gpiochip_add() should
automatically setup of_gpio_simple_xlate() on it's behalf. This doesn't
happen since the fwnode member on the struct gpiochip is set to null
when of_gpiochip_add() is called. Let's work around this by ensuring
that it's set if available.
Note that this broke sometime within the last few weeks within
linux-next and I haven't bisected this. I'm posting this in the hopes
that someone may know offhand which patch(es) may have broken this.

Now that static device properties understand notion of child nodes and
references, let's teach gpiolib to handle them:
- GPIOs are represented as a references to software nodes representing
gpiochip
- references must have 2 arguments - GPIO number within the chip and
GPIO flags (GPIO_ACTIVE_LOW/GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH, etc)
- a new PROPERTY_ENTRY_GPIO() macro is supplied to ensure the above
- name of the software node representing gpiochip must match label of
the gpiochip, as we use it to locate gpiochip structure at runtime
The following illustrates use of software nodes to describe a "System"
button that is currently specified via use of gpio_keys_platform_data
in arch/mips/alchemy/board-mtx1.c. It follows bindings specified in
Documentation/devicetree/bindings/input/gpio-keys.yaml.
static const struct software_node mxt1_gpiochip2_node = {
.name = "alchemy-gpio2",
};
static const struct property_entry mtx1_gpio_button_props[] = {
PROPERTY_ENTRY_U32("linux,code", BTN_0),
PROPERTY_ENTRY_STRING("label", "System button"),
PROPERTY_ENTRY_GPIO("gpios", &mxt1_gpiochip2_node, 7, GPIO_ACTIVE_LOW),
{ }
};
Similarly, arch/arm/mach-tegra/board-paz00.c can be converted to:
static const struct software_node tegra_gpiochip_node = {
.name = "tegra-gpio",
};
static struct property_entry wifi_rfkill_prop[] __initdata = {
PROPERTY_ENTRY_STRING("name", "wifi_rfkill"),

PROPERTY_ENTRY_GPIO("reset-gpios",
&tegra_gpiochip_node, 25, GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH);
PROPERTY_ENTRY_GPIO("shutdown-gpios",
&tegra_gpiochip_node, 85, GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH);
{ },
};
static struct platform_device wifi_rfkill_device = {
.name = "rfkill_gpio",
.id = -1,
};
...
software_node_register(&tegra_gpiochip_node);
device_create_managed_software_node(&wifi_rfkill_device.dev,

This driver implements a GPIO multiplexer based on latches connected to
other GPIOs. A set of data GPIOs is connected to the data input of
multiple latches. The clock input of each latch is driven by another
set of GPIOs. With two 8-bit latches 10 GPIOs can be multiplexed into
16 GPIOs. GPOs might be a better term as in fact the multiplexed pins
are output only.

Since commit 14e85c0e69 ("gpio: remove gpio_descs global array")
there is no limitation on the number of GPIOs that can be allocated
in the system since the allocation is fully dynamic.
ARCH_NR_GPIOS is today only used in order to provide downwards
gpiobase allocation from that value, while static allocation is
performed upwards from 0. However that has the disadvantage of
limiting the number of GPIOs that can be registered in the system.
To overcome this limitation without requiring each and every
platform to provide its 'best-guess' maximum number, rework the
allocation to allocate upwards, allowing approx 2 millions of
GPIOs.
In order to still allow static allocation for legacy drivers, define
GPIO_DYNAMIC_BASE with the value 512 as the start for dynamic
allocation. The 512 value is chosen because it is the end of
the current default range so all current static allocations are
expected to be below that value. Of course that's just a rough
estimate based on the default value, but assuming static
allocations come first, even if there are more static allocations
it should fit under the 512 value.
In the future, it is expected that all static allocations go away
and then dynamic allocation will be patched to start at 0.

All these drivers have an i2c probe function which doesn't use the
"struct i2c_device_id *id" parameter, so they can trivially be
converted to the "probe_new" style of probe with a single argument.
This is part of an ongoing transition to single-argument i2c probe
functions. Old-style probe functions involve a call to i2c_match_id:
in drivers/i2c/i2c-core-base.c,
/*
* When there are no more users of probe(),
* rename probe_new to probe.
*/
if (driver->probe_new)
status = driver->probe_new(client);
else if (driver->probe)
status = driver->probe(client,
i2c_match_id(driver->id_table, client));
else
status = -EINVAL;
Drivers which don't need the second parameter can be declared using
probe_new instead, avoiding the call to i2c_match_id. Drivers which do
can still be converted to probe_new-style, calling i2c_match_id
themselves (as is done currently for of_match_id).
This change was done using the following Coccinelle script, and fixed

The ACPI spec defines the SharedAndWake and ExclusiveAndWake share type
keywords. This is an indication that the GPIO IRQ can also be used as a
wake source. This change exposes the wake_capable bit so drivers can
correctly enable wake functionality instead of making an assumption.

Before the split of gpio and pinctrl sections in their own driver,
rockchip_set_mux was called in pinmux_ops.gpio_set_direction for
configuring a pin in its GPIO function.
This is essential for cases where pinctrl is "bypassed" by gpio
consumers otherwise the GPIO function is not configured for the pin and
it does not work. Such was the case for the sysfs/libgpiod userspace
GPIO handling.
Let's call pinctrl_gpio_direction_input/output when setting the
direction of a GPIO so that the pinctrl core requests from the rockchip
pinctrl driver to put the pin in its GPIO function.

Add fdinfo output for file descriptors created for user-space line
requests in GPIO uAPI v2. The fdinfo file now contains the name of the
GPIO chip that is the "parent" of the request as well as offsets of

The reason of this issue is that calling request_threaded_irq()

Add support for the NXP PCAL6534. This device is broadly a 34-bit version
of the PCAL6524. However, whilst the registers are broadly what you'd
expect for a 34-bit version of the PCAL6524, the spacing of the registers
has been compacted. This has the unfortunate effect of breaking the bit
shift based mechanism that is employed to work out register locations used
by the other chips supported by this driver. To accommodate ths, callback
functions have been added to allow alterate implementations of
pca953x_recalc_addr() and pca953x_check_register() for the PCAL6534.

Add GPIO support for Nuvoton NCT6116 chip. Nuvoton SuperIO chips are
very similar to the ones from Fintek. In other subsystems they also
share drivers and are called a family of drivers.
For the GPIO subsystem the only difference is that the direction bit is
reversed and that there is only one data bit per pin. On the SuperIO
level the logical device is another one.
On a chip level we do not have a manufacturer ID to check and also no
revision.

By using 16-bit I/O on the GPIO peripheral, which is apparently not safe
on MIPS, the IMR can end up containing garbage. This then results in
interrupt triggers for lines that don't have an interrupt handler
associated. The irq_desc lookup fails, and the ISR will not be cleared,
keeping the CPU busy until reboot, or until another IMR operation
restores the correct value. This situation appears to happen very
rarely, for < 0.5% of IMR writes.
Instead of using 8-bit or 16-bit I/O operations on the 32-bit memory
mapped peripheral registers, switch to using 32-bit I/O only, operating
on the entire bank for all single bit line settings. For 2-bit line
settings, with 16-bit port values, stick to manual (un)packing.

The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored.
(Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the
error is ignored.)
So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This
way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to
the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly.
There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to
return 0 before.

Exposes consumer library functions providing support for interfaces
compatible with the venerable Intel 8255 Programmable Peripheral
Interface (PPI).
The Intel 8255 PPI first appeared in the early 1970s, initially for the
Intel 8080 and later appearing in the original IBM-PC. The popularity of
the original Intel 8255 chip led to many subsequent variants and clones
of the interface in various chips and integrated circuits. Although
still popular, interfaces compatible with the Intel 8255 PPI are
nowdays typically found embedded in larger VLSI processing chips and
FPGA components rather than as discrete ICs.
A CONFIG_GPIO_I8255 Kconfig option is introduced by this patch. Modules
wanting access to these i8255 library functions should select this
Kconfig option, and import the I8255 symbol namespace.

Combine the polarity_change flag, struct line eflags, and hte enable
flag into a single flag variable.
The combination of these flags describes the configuration state
of the edge detector, so formalize and clarify that by combining
them into a single variable, edflags, in struct line.
The edflags is a subset of the GPIO_V2_LINE_FLAGsb relevant to
the edge detector, and is also a superset of the eflags it replaces.
The eflags name is still used to describe the subset of edflags
corresponding to the rising/falling edge flags where edflags is
masked down to that subset.
This consolidation reduces the number of variables being passed,
simplifies state comparisons, and provides a more extensible
foundation should additional edge sources be integrated in the
future.

We should use of_node_get() when a new reference of device_node
is created. It is noted that the old reference stored in
'mm_gc->gc.of_node' should also be decreased.
This patch is based on the fact that there is a call site in function
'qe_add_gpiochips()' of src file 'drivers\soc\fsl\qe\gpio.c'. In this
function, of_mm_gpiochip_add_data() is contained in an iteration of
for_each_compatible_node() which will automatically increase and
decrease the refcount. So we need additional of_node_get() for the
reference escape in of_mm_gpiochip_add_data().

Allow free() callback to be overridden from irq_domain_ops for
hierarchical chips.
This allows drivers to free up resources which are allocated during
child_to_parent_hwirq()/populate_parent_alloc_arg() callbacks.
On Renesas RZ/G2L platform a bitmap is maintained for TINT slots, a slot
is allocated in child_to_parent_hwirq() callback which is freed up in free
callback hence this override.

The gpiolib is unique in the way it uses intermediate fwspecs
when feeding an interrupt specifier to the parent domain, as it
relies on the populate_parent_alloc_arg() callback to perform
a dynamic allocation.
This is pretty inefficient (we free the structure almost immediately),
and the only reason this isn't a stack allocation is that our
ThunderX friend uses MSIs rather than a FW-constructed structure.
Let's solve it by providing a new type composed of the union
of a struct irq_fwspec and a msi_info_t, which satisfies both
requirements. This allows us to use a stack allocation, and we
can move the handful of users to this new scheme.
Also perform some additional cleanup, such as getting rid of the
stub versions of the irq_domain_translate_*cell helpers, which
are never used when CONFIG_IRQ_DOMAIN_HIERARCHY isn't selected.
Tested on a Tegra186.

If a platform device's remove callback returns non-zero, the device core
emits a warning and still removes the device and calls the devm cleanup
callbacks.
So it's not save to not unregister the gpiochip because on the next request
to a GPIO the driver accesses kfree()'d memory. Also if an IRQ triggers,
the freed memory is accessed.
Instead rely on the GPIO framework to ensure that after gpiochip_remove()
all GPIOs are freed and so the corresponding IRQs are unmapped.
This is a preparation for making platform remove callbacks return void.

Currently if the APB or Debounce clocks aren't yet ready to be requested
the DW GPIO driver will correctly handle that by deferring the probe
procedure, but the error is still printed to the system log. It needlessly
pollutes the log since there was no real error but a request to postpone
the clock request procedure since the clocks subsystem hasn't been fully
initialized yet. Let's fix that by using the dev_err_probe method to print
the APB/clock request error status. It will correctly handle the deferred
probe situation and print the error if it actually happens.

gpio: pca953x: use the correct register address to do regcache sync
MAINTAINERS: Update Intel GPIO (PMIC and PCH) to Supported
MAINTAINERS: Update GPIO ACPI library to Supported
If the teardown callback failed in the gpio driver, it fails to free the
irq (if there is one). The device is removed anyhow. If later on the irq
triggers, all sorts of unpleasant things might happen (e.g. accessing
the struct adp5588_gpio which is already freed in the meantime or starting
i2c bus transfers for an unregistered device). Even before irq support was
added to this driver, exiting early was wrong; back then it failed to
unregister the gpiochip.
Fortunately these callbacks aren't used any more since at least blackfin
was removed in 2018. So just drop them.
Note that they are not removed from struct adp5588_gpio_platform_data
because the keyboard driver adp5588-keys.c also makes use of them.
(I didn't check if the callbacks might have been called twice, maybe there
is another reason hidden to better not call these functions.)
This patch is a preparation for making i2c remove callbacks return void.
