f72f550c58 macb: process the RX ring regardless of interrupt status
Suppose that we receive lots of frames, start processing them, but
exhaust our budget so that we return before we had a chance to look
at all of them.

Then, when the network layer calls us again, we will only continue
processing the buffers if the REC bit was set in the mean time, which it
might not be if there was a brief pause in the flow of packets. If this
happens, we'll simply display a warning and call netif_rx_complete()
with potentially lots of unprocessed packets in the RX ring...

Fix this by scanning the ring no matter what flags are set in the
interrupt status register.

ee33c58541 macb: Handle Retry Limit Exceeded errors
When transfering large amounts of data we sometimes experienced that the
Retry Limit Exceeded (RLE) bit got set in TSR during transmission
attempts. When this happened the driver would stall in a state that
prevented any more data from being sent.

39eddb4c39 macb: avoid lockup when TGO during underrun
In rare cases when an underrun occur, all macb buffers where consumed
and the netif_queue was stopped infinitely. This happens then the TGO
(transfer ongoing) bit in the TSR is set (and UND). It seems like
clening up after the underrun makes the driver and the macb hardware
end up in an inconsistent state. The result of this is that in the
following calls to macb_tx no TX buffers are released -> the
netif_queue was stopped, and never woken up again.

The solution is to disable the transmitter, if TGO is set, before
clening up after the underrun, and re-enable the transmitter when the
cleaning up is done.

908a7a16b8 net: Remove unused netdev arg from some NAPI interfaces.
When the napi api was changed to separate its 1:1 binding to the net_device
struct, the netif_rx_[prep|schedule|complete] api failed to remove the now
vestigual net_device structure parameter.  This patch cleans up that api by
properly removing it..

babcda74e9 drivers/net: Kill now superfluous ->last_rx stores.
The generic packet receive code takes care of setting
netdev->last_rx when necessary, for the sake of the
bonding ARP monitor.

Drivers need not do it any more.

Some cases had to be skipped over because the drivers
were making use of the ->last_rx value themselves.

e174961ca1 net: convert print_mac to %pM
This converts pretty much everything to print_mac. There were
a few things that had conflicts which I have just dropped for
now, no harm done.

I've built an allyesconfig with this and looked at the files
that weren't built very carefully, but it's a huge patch.

18ee49ddb0 phylib: rename mii_bus::dev to mii_bus::parent
In preparation of giving mii_bus objects a device tree presence of
their own, rename struct mii_bus's ->dev argument to ->parent, since
having a 'struct device *dev' that points to our parent device
conflicts with introducing a 'struct device dev' representing our own
device.

The drivers were touching net queue before it has been started, so
without this patch, the drivers will potentially WARN at
net/core/dev.c:1328.

I don't have the hardware for the drivers below, so this patch is
untested, and thus should be carefully peer reviewed.

c1f598fd71 macb: Basic suspend/resume support
This implements suspend and resume callbacks for the macb driver. We may
have to do some more to gracefully shut the MAC down, but this at least
prevents the macb from waking the system when hooked up to a busy
network.

72abb46101 net drivers: fix platform driver hotplug/coldplug
Since 43cc71eed1, the platform modalias is
prefixed with "platform:".  Add MODULE_ALIAS() to the hotpluggable network
platform drivers, to re-enable auto loading.

NOTE: didn't change drivers/net/fs_enet/fs_enet-main.c "old binding" support.
That looks problematic in the first place (it even uses the ancient "struct
device_driver" binding scheme for platform_bus!) and I suspect it will vanish
soonish when arch/powerpc rules the world.  Also, drivers/net/ne.c would have
needed more thought to sort out.

9d9326d3bc phy: Change mii_bus id field to a string
Having the id field be an int was making more complex bus topologies
excessively difficult.  For now, just convert it to a string, and
change all instances of "bus->id = val" to
snprintf(id, MII_BUS_ID_LEN, "%x", val).

06c3fd6ad5 macb: Fix section mismatch and shrink runtime footprint
macb devices are only found integrated on SoCs, so they can't be
hotplugged. Thus, the probe() and exit() functions can be __init and
__exit, respectively. By using platform_driver_probe() instead of
platform_driver_register(), there won't be any references to the
discarded probe() function after the driver has loaded.

This also fixes a section mismatch due to macb_probe(), defined as
__devinit, calling macb_get_hwaddr, defined as __init.

bdcba1511b MACB: clear transmit buffers properly on transmit underrun
Initially transmit buffer pointers were only reset. But buffer
descriptors were possibly still set as ready, and buffer in upper
layer was not freed. This caused driver hang under big load.  Now
reset clean properly the buffer descriptor and freed upper layer.

bea3348eef [NET]: Make NAPI polling independent of struct net_device objects.
Several devices have multiple independant RX queues per net
device, and some have a single interrupt doorbell for several
queues.

In either case, it's easier to support layouts like that if the
structure representing the poll is independant from the net
device itself.

The signature of the ->poll() call back goes from:

	int foo_poll(struct net_device *dev, int *budget)

to

	int foo_poll(struct napi_struct *napi, int budget)

The caller is returned the number of RX packets processed (or
the number of "NAPI credits" consumed if you want to get
abstract).  The callee no longer messes around bumping
dev->quota, *budget, etc. because that is all handled in the
caller upon return.

The napi_struct is to be embedded in the device driver private data
structures.

Furthermore, it is the driver's responsibility to disable all NAPI
instances in it's ->stop() device close handler.  Since the
napi_struct is privatized into the driver's private data structures,
only the driver knows how to get at all of the napi_struct instances
it may have per-device.

27a884dc3c [SK_BUFF]: Convert skb->tail to sk_buff_data_t
So that it is also an offset from skb->head, reduces its size from 8 to 4 bytes
on 64bit architectures, allowing us to combine the 4 bytes hole left by the
layer headers conversion, reducing struct sk_buff size to 256 bytes, i.e. 4
64byte cachelines, and since the sk_buff slab cache is SLAB_HWCACHE_ALIGN...
:-)

Many calculations that previously required that skb->{transport,network,
mac}_header be first converted to a pointer now can be done directly, being
meaningful as offsets or pointers.

140e807dd7 macb: Remove inappropriate spinlocks around mii calls
Remove spin_lock_irqsave() around mii_ethtool_gset, mii_ethtool_sset
and generic_mii_ioctl. These are unnecessary and harmful because
the mii calls may call back into the mdio functions, which may sleep.

0cc8674f2b AT91: MACB support
The Atmel MACB Ethernet peripheral is also integrated in the AT91SAM9260
and AT91SAM9263 processors.  The differences from the AVR32 version are:
      * Single peripheral clock.
      * MII/RMII selection bit is inverted.
      * Clock enable bit.

0f0d84e52c [PATCH] MACB: Use __raw register access
Since macb is a chip-internal device, use __raw_readl and
__raw_writel instead of readl/writel. This will perform native-endian
accesses, which is the right thing to do on both AVR32 and ARM devices.

89e5785fc8 [PATCH] Atmel MACB ethernet driver
Driver for the Atmel MACB on-chip ethernet module.

Tested on AVR32/AT32AP7000/ATSTK1000. I've heard rumours that it works
with AT91SAM9260 as well, and it may be possible to share some code with
the at91_ether driver for AT91RM9200.

Changes since previous version:
  * Probe for PHY ID instead of depending on it being provided through
    platform_data.
  * Grab initial ethernet address from the MACB registers instead
    of depending on platform_data.
  * Set MII/RMII mode correctly.

These changes are mostly about making the driver more compatible with
the at91 infrastructure.
