fs/inode.c: make inode_init_always() initialize i_ino to 0
Currently inode_init_always() doesn't initialize i_ino to 0. This is unexpected because unlike the other inode fields that aren't initialized by inode_init_always(), i_ino isn't guaranteed to end up back at its initial value after the inode is freed. Only one filesystem (XFS) actually sets set i_ino back to 0 when freeing its inodes. So, callers of new_inode() see some random previous i_ino. Normally that's fine, since normally i_ino isn't accessed before being set. There can be edge cases where that isn't necessarily true, though. The one I've run into is that on ext4, when creating an encrypted file, the new file's encryption key has to be set up prior to the jbd2 transaction, and thus prior to i_ino being set. If something goes wrong, fs/crypto/ may log warning or error messages, which normally include i_ino. So it needs to know whether it is valid to include i_ino yet or not. Also, on some files i_ino needs to be hashed for use in the crypto, so fs/crypto/ needs to know whether that can be done yet or not. There are ways this could be worked around, either in fs/crypto/ or in fs/ext4/. But, it seems there's no reason not to just fix inode_init_always() to do the expected thing and initialize i_ino to 0. So, do that, and also remove the initialization in jfs_fill_super() that becomes redundant. Signed-off-by: Eric Biggers <ebiggers@google.com> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk> |

vfs: don't unnecessarily clone write access for writable fds
There's no need for mnt_want_write_file() to increment mnt_writers when the file is already open for writing, provided that mnt_drop_write_file() is changed to conditionally decrement it. We seem to have ended up in the current situation because mnt_want_write_file() used to be paired with mnt_drop_write(), due to mnt_drop_write_file() not having been added yet. So originally mnt_want_write_file() had to always increment mnt_writers. But later mnt_drop_write_file() was added, and all callers of mnt_want_write_file() were paired with it. This makes the compatibility between mnt_want_write_file() and mnt_drop_write() no longer necessary. Therefore, make __mnt_want_write_file() and __mnt_drop_write_file() skip incrementing mnt_writers on files already open for writing. This removes the only caller of mnt_clone_write(), so remove that too. Signed-off-by: Eric Biggers <ebiggers@google.com> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk> |

drm/amd/display: avoid uninitialized variable warning
clang (quite rightly) complains fairly loudly about the newly added
mpc1_get_mpc_out_mux() function returning an uninitialized value if the
'opp_id' checks don't pass.
This may not happen in practice, but the code really shouldn't return
garbage if the sanity checks don't pass.
So just initialize 'val' to zero to avoid the issue.

perf tools changes for v5.11, 2nd batch:
- Refactor 'perf stat' per CPU/socket/die/thread aggregation fixing use

- Fix memory leak when synthesizing SDT probes in 'perf probe'.

powerpc and s390 syscall tables.

Test results:
The first ones are container based builds of tools/perf with and without libelf
support. Where clang is available, it is also used to build perf with/without
libelf, and building with LIBCLANGLLVM=1 (built-in clang) with gcc and clang
when clang and its devel libraries are installed.
The objtool and samples/bpf/ builds are disabled now that I'm switching from
using the sources in a local volume to fetching them from a http server to
build it inside the container, to make it easier to build in a container cluster.
Those will come back later.
Several are cross builds, the ones with -x-ARCH and the android one, and those
may not have all the features built, due to lack of multi-arch devel packages,
available and being used so far on just a few, like
debian:experimental-x-{arm64,mipsel}.
The 'perf test' one will perform a variety of tests exercising
tools/perf/util/, tools/lib/{bpf,traceevent,etc}, as well as run perf commands
with a variety of command line event specifications to then intercept the
sys_perf_event syscall to check that the perf_event_attr fields are set up as
expected, among a variety of other unit tests.
Then there is the 'make -C tools/perf build-test' ones, that build tools/perf/
with a variety of feature sets, exercising the build with an incomplete set of
features as well as with a complete one. It is planned to have it run on each
of the containers mentioned above, using some container orchestration
infrastructure. Get in contact if interested in helping having this in place.

in synthesize_sdt_probe_command() we were simply leaking that argv[]

perf stat aggregation: Add separate thread member
A separate field isn't strictly required. The core field could be re-used for thread IDs as a single field was used previously. But separating them will avoid confusion and catch potential errors where core IDs are read as thread IDs and vice versa. Also remove the placeholder id field which is now no longer used. perf stat aggregation: Add separate socket member
Add socket as a separate member so that it doesn't have to be packed into the int value. When the socket ID was larger than 8 bits the output appeared corrupted or incomplete. For example, here on ThunderX2 'perf stat' reports a socket of -1 and an invalid die number: ./perf stat -a --per-die The socket id number is too big. Performance counter stats for 'system wide': S-1-D255 128 687.99 msec cpu-clock # 57.240 CPUs utilized ... S36-D0 128 842.34 msec cpu-clock # 70.081 CPUs utilized ... And with --per-core there is an entry with an invalid core ID: ./perf stat record -a --per-core The socket id number is too big. Performance counter stats for 'system wide': S-1-D255-C65535 128 671.04 msec cpu-clock # 54.112 CPUs utilized ... S36-D0-C0 4 28.27 msec cpu-clock # 2.279 CPUs utilized ... This fixes the "Session topology" self test on ThunderX2. After this fix the output contains the correct socket and die IDs and no longer prints a warning about the size of the socket ID: ./perf stat --per-die -a Performance counter stats for 'system wide': S36-D0 128 169,869.39 msec cpu-clock # 127.501 CPUs utilized ...
