We use different styles to check the return values of IO related
routines. The majority of the cases use 'if (ret < 0)', align the
remaining cases for consistency.

None of the existing codec drivers set the sdw_driver.name, but
instead set sdw_driver.driver.name.
This leads to error messages such as

We could remove this sdw_driver.name if it doesn't have any
purpose. This patch only suggests using the proper indirection.

We've been handling ACPI issues on early versions of the product with
a local ACPI initrd override but now that we have the possibility of a
kernel quirk let's get rid of the initrd override. This helps make
sure that the kernel will support all versions of the BIOS, with or
without updates.

HP Spectre x360 Convertible devices expose invalid _ADR fields in the
DSDT, which prevents codec drivers from probing. A possible solution
is to override the DSDT, but that's just too painful for users.
This patch suggests a simple DMI-based quirk to remap the existing
invalid ADR information into valid ones.

Platform firmware may have incorrect _ADR values causing the driver
probes to fail. Add the override_ops, which when configured will allow
for quirks based on DMI etc to override the addr values.

The ACPI scan capabilities is called from the intel-dspconfig as well
as the SOF/HDaudio drivers. This creates dependencies and randconfig issues
when HDaudio and SOF/SoundWire are not all configured as modules.
To simplify Kconfig dependencies between HDAudio, SoundWire, SOF and
intel-dspconfig, move the ACPI scan helpers to a dedicated
module. This follows the same idea as NHLT helpers which are already
handled as a dedicated module.
The only functional change is that the kernel parameter to filter
links is now handled by a different module, but that was only provided
for developers needing work-arounds for early BIOS releases.

The SoundWire bus code confuses bus and Slave device levels for
dev_err/dbg logs. That's not impacting functionality but the accuracy
of kernel logs.
We should only use bus->dev for bus-level operations and handling of
Device0. For all other logs where the device number is not zero, we
should use &slave->dev to provide more precisions to the
user/integrator.

Intel stress-tests routinely report IO timeouts and invalid power
management transitions. Upon further analysis, we seem to be using the
wrong devices in pm_runtime calls.
Before reading and writing registers, we first need to make sure the
Slave is fully resumed. The existing code attempts to do such that,
however because of a confusion dating from 2017 and copy/paste, we
end-up resuming the parent only instead of resuming the codec device.
This can lead to accesses to the Slave registers while the bus is
still being configured and the Slave not enumerated, and as a result
IO errors occur.
This is a classic problem, similar confusions happened for HDaudio
between bus and codec device, leading to power management issues.
Fix by using the relevant device for all uses of pm_runtime functions.

When a Slave device is resumed, it may resume the bus and restart the
enumeration. During that process, we absolutely don't want to call
regular read/write routines which will wait for the resume to
complete, otherwise a deadlock occurs.
This patch fixes the same problem as the previous one, but is split to
make the life of linux-stable maintainers less painful.

The existing code reports a NAK only when ACK=0
This is not aligned with the SoundWire 1.x specifications.
Table 32 in the SoundWire 1.2 specification shows that a Device shall
not set NAK=1 if ACK=1. But Table 33 shows the Combined Response
may very well be NAK=1/ACK=1, e.g. if another Device than the one
addressed reports a parity error.
NAK=1 signals a 'Command_Aborted', regardless of the ACK bit value.
Move the tests for NAK so that the NAK=1/ACK=1 combination is properly
detected according to the specification.

The existing debug log only mentions a state change, without providing
any details. For integration and stress-tests, it's helpful to see in
the dmesg log the reason for the state change.
The value is intended for power users and isn't converted as
human-readable values. But for the record each device has a 4-bit
status:

dev->power.runtime_error will be set to the return value of the runtime
suspend callback function, and runtime resume function will return
-EINVAL if dev->power.runtime_error is not 0.
Somehow the codec rarely doesn't return an ACK to the clock prepare
command. If we stop the runtime suspend process and return error, we
will not be able to resume again. Likewise, if the codec lost sync and
did not rejoin, the resume operation will also fail. As a result, the
SoundWire bus can not be used anymore.
This patch suggests to finish the runtime suspend process even if we fail
to stop sdw bus clock. In the case where we do a hardware reset, the codecs
will be reconfigured completely. In the case where we use the regular clock
stop, the codecs keep their state and worst case will fall off the bus and
reattach.
The only drawback is that the power consumption may be higher and
device-initiated interrupts may be lost, but at least audio function can
still work after resume.

link_id can be zero and if we have multiple controller instances
in a system like Qualcomm debugfs will end-up with duplicate namespace
resulting in incorrect debugfs entries.
Using id should give a unique debugfs directory entry and should fix below
warning too.

The only place sdw_slave_dev_attr_group is used is when its address is
passed to devm_device_add_group() which takes a pointer to const struct
attribute_group. Make it const to allow the compiler to put it in
read-only memory. This makes all attribute_group structs in the file
const. Done with the help of Coccinelle.

Currently the timeout for SoundWire individual transactions is 2s.
This is too large in comparison with the enumeration and completion
timeouts used in codec drivers.
A command will typically be handled in less than 100us, so 500ms for
the command completion is more than generous.

Without CONFIG_PM, there is another warning about an unused function:

After a previous fix, the driver already uses both an #ifdef and
a __maybe_unused annotation but still gets it wrong. Remove the

The 'master' device acts as a glue layer used during bus
initialization only, and it needs to be 'transparent' for pm_runtime
management. Its behavior should be that it becomes active when one of
its children becomes active, and suspends when all of its children are
suspended.
In our tests on Intel platforms, we routinely see these sort of
warnings on the initial boot:

This is root-caused to a missing setup to make the device 'active' on
probe. Since we don't want the device to remain active forever after
the probe, the autosuspend configuration is also enabled at the end of
the probe - the device will actually autosuspend only in the case
where there are no devices physically attached. In practice, the
master device will suspend when all its children are no longer active.

The interrupt handling in SoundWire requires software to re-read the
interrupt status after clearing an interrupt. In case the interrupt is
still outstanding, the code in bus.c will loop a number of times,
however that loop is limited to the interrupts detected in the first
read. This strategy helps meet SoundWire requirements without
remaining forever in an interrupt handler.
Add a couple of comments to document this design.

The SoundWire 1.2 specification defines an "SDCA cascade" bit which
handles a logical OR of all SDCA interrupt sources (up to 30 defined).
Due to limitations of the addressing space, this bit is located in the
SDW_DP0_INT register when DP0 is used, or alternatively in the
DP0_SDCA_Support_INTSTAT register when DP0 is not used.
To allow for both cases to be handled, this bit will be checked in the
main device-level interrupt handling code. This will result in the
register being read twice if DP0 is enabled, but it's not clear how to
optimize this case. It's also more logical to deal with this interrupt
at the device than the port level, this bit is really not DP0 specific
and its location in the DP0_INTSTAT bit is only due to the lack of
free space in SCP_INTSTAT_1.
The SDCA_Cascade bit cannot be masked or cleared, so the interrupt
handling only forwards the detection to the Slave driver, which will
deal with reading the relevant SDCA status bits and clearing them. The
bus driver only signals the detection.
The communication with the Slave driver is based on the same interrupt
callback, with only an extension to provide the status of the
sdca_cascade bit.

The MIPI DisCo device properties that are read by the driver from
platform firmware, or hard-coded in the driver, should only be
provided as sysfs entries when a driver probes successfully.
However the device status and device number is updated even when there
is no driver present, and hence can be updated when a Slave device is
detected on the bus without being described in platform firmware and
without any driver registered/probed.
As suggested by GregKH, the attribute group for Slave status and
device number is is added by default upon device registration.
Credits to Vinod Koul for the status_show() function, shared in a
separate patch and used as is here. The status table was modified to
remove an unnecessary enum and status_show() is handled in a different
group attribute than what was suggested by Vinod.

Currently Slave devices are only added on startup, either from Device
Tree or ACPI entries. However Slave devices that are physically
present on the bus, but not described in platform firmware, will never
be added to the device list. The user/integrator can only know the
list of devices by looking a dynamic debug logs.
This patch suggests adding a Slave device even if there is no matching
DT or ACPI entry, so that we can see this in sysfs entry.

This patch adds debugfs support to override the Master and Slave data
modes. The settings only take effect prior to a new stream being
prepared/enabled, or on resume.
The test mode can be set to verify data integrity and detect bus
clashes, but can only be used to test capture paths. In this case the
input generated by a Slave source port is replaced by a fixed or
cyclical patterns.

Test modes are required for all SoundWire IP, and help debug
integration issues. In theory each port can be configured with a
different mode but to simplify this patch only offers separate
configurations for the Master and Slave ports - this covers 99% of the
intended cases during platform integration.
The test mode value is set via platform-specific ways.

This algorithm computes bus parameters like clock frequency, frame
shape and port transport parameters based on active stream(s) running
on the bus.
Developers can also implement their own .compute_params() callback for
specific resource management algorithm, and set if before calling
sdw_add_bus_master()
Credits: this patch is based on an earlier internal contribution by
Vinod Koul, Sanyog Kale, Shreyas Nc and Hardik Shah. All hard-coded
values were removed from the initial contribution to use BIOS
information instead.

Unlike the traditional usage, in the SoundWire specification the
interrupt masks only gate the propagation of an interrupt condition to
the PING frame status. They do not gate the changes of the INT_STAT
registers, which will happen regardless of the mask settings. See
Figure 116 of the SoundWire 1.2 specification for an in-depth
description of the interrupt model.
When the bus driver reads the SCP_INT1_STAT register, it will retrieve
all the interrupt status, including for the mask fields that were not
explicitly set. For example, even if the PARITY mask is not set, the
PARITY error status will be reported if an implementation-defined
interrupt for jack detection is enabled and occurs.
Filtering undesired interrupt reports and handling has to be
implemented in software. This patch enables this filtering for the
INT1_IMPL_DEF, PARITY and BUS_CLASH interrupt sources.

Add a slave-level property and program the SCP_INT1_MASK as desired by
the codec driver. Since there is no DisCo property this has to be an
implementation-specific firmware property or hard-coded in the driver.
The only functionality change is that implementation-defined
interrupts are no longer set for amplifiers - those interrupts are
typically for jack detection or acoustic event detection/hotwording.

In system suspend stress cases, the SOF CI reports timeouts. The root
cause is that an alert is generated while the system suspends. The
interrupt handling generates transactions on the bus that will never
be handled because the interrupts are disabled in parallel.
As a result, the transaction never completes and times out on resume.
This error doesn't seem too problematic since it happens in a work
queue, and the system recovers without issues.
Nevertheless, this race condition should not happen. When doing a
system suspend, or when disabling interrupts, we should make sure the
current transaction can complete, and prevent new work from being
queued.

driver), we can remove the stream handling at the dai level. We still

Each link has separate power controls, but experimental results show
we need to use an all-or-none approach to the link power management.
This change has marginal power impacts, the DSP needs to be powered
anyways before SoundWire links can be powered, and even when powered a
link can be in clock-stopped mode.

While the hardware exposes independent bits to power-up each master,
the recommended sequence is to power all links or none. Idle links can
still use the clock stop mode while the master is powered.

Detect cases where the clock is assumed to be stopped but the IP is
not in the relevant state. There is no real way to recover here, but
adding an error log can help detect bad programming sequences or race
conditions.

The multi-link support is enabled with a hardware gsync signal
connecting all links. All commands and operations which typically are
handled on an SSP boundary will be deferred further and enabled across
all links with the 'syncGo' sequence.

The existing code allocates memory for the total number of ports.
This only works if the ports are contiguous, but will break if e.g. a
Devices uses port0, 1, and 14. The port_ready[] array would contain 3
elements, which would lead to an out-of-bounds access. Conversely in
other cases, the wrong port index would be used leading to timeouts on
prepare.
This can be fixed by allocating for the worst-case of 15
ports (DP0..DP14). In addition since the number is now fixed, we can
use an array instead of a dynamic allocation.

This happens in an error handler cleaning up memory
allocated for elements in a list.

And is triggered when the call to sdw_bank_switch() fails.
There are a two problems.
First, when sdw_bank_switch() fails, though it frees memory it
does not clear bus's reference 'defer_msg.msg' to that memory.
The second problem is the freeing msg->buf. In some cases
msg will be NULL so this will dereference a null pointer.
Need to check before freeing.

When all the links are suspended, the HDaudio controller may suspend
and the power rails to the SoundWire IP may be disabled, requiring a
complete re-initialization/enumeration on resume. However, if one or
more Masters remained active, the HDaudio controller will remain active
and the power rails will remain enabled. As a result, during the link
resume step we can check if the context was preserved by verifying if
the clock was stopped, and avoid doing a complete bus reset and
re-enumeration.

When none of the clock stop quirks is specified, the Master IP will
assume the context is preserved and will not reset the Bus and restart
enumeration. Due to power rail dependencies, the HDaudio controller
needs to remain powered and prevented from executing its pm_runtime
suspend routine.
This choice of course has a power impact, and this mode should only be
selected when latency requirements are critical or the parent device
can enter D0ix modes.

Move existing pm_runtime suspend under the CLK_STOP_TEARDOWN case.
In this mode the Master IP will lose all context but in-band wakes are
supported.
On pm_runtime resume a complete re-enumeration will be performed after

Add quirk and pm_runtime idle scheduling to let the Master suspend if
no Slaves become attached. This can happen when a link is not marked
as disabled and has devices exposed in the DSDT, if the power is
controlled by sideband means or the link includes a pluggable
connector.

The .prepare() callback is invoked for normal streaming, underflows or
during the system resume transition. In the latter case, the context
for the ALH PDIs is lost, and the DSP is not initialized properly
either, but the bus parameters don't need to be recomputed.
Conversely, when doing a regular .prepare() during an underflow, the
ALH/SHIM registers shall not be changed as the hardware cannot be
reprogrammed after the DMA started (hardware spec requirement).
This patch adds storage of PDI and hw_params in the DAI dma context,
and the difference between the types of .prepare() usages is handled
via a simple boolean, updated when suspending, and tested for in the
.prepare() case.

Previous patches took care of the case where the master device is
pm_runtime 'suspended' when a system suspend occurs.
In the case where the master device was not suspended, e.g. if suspend
occurred while streaming audio, Intel validation noticed a race
condition: the pm_runtime suspend may conflict with the enumeration
started by the system resume.
This can be simply fixed by updating the status before exiting system
resume.

The system resume does the entire bus re-initialization and brings it
to full-power. If the device was pm_runtime suspended, there is no
need to run the pm_runtime resume sequence after the system runtime.
Follow the documentation from runtime_pm.rst, and conditionally
disable, set_active and re-enable the device on system resume.
Note that pm_runtime_suspended() is used instead of
pm_runtime_status_suspended() so that we can deal with the case where
pm_runtime is disabled.

Add basic hooks in DAI .startup and .shutdown callbacks.
The SoundWire IP should be powered between those two calls. The power
dependencies between SoundWire and DSP are handled with the
parent/child relationship, before the SoundWire master device becomes
active the parent device will become active and power-up the shared
rails.
For now the strategy is to rely on complete enumeration when the
device becomes active, so the code is a copy/paste of the sequence for
system suspend/resume. In future patches, the strategy will optionally
be to rely on clock stop if the enumeration time is prohibitive or
when the devices connected to a link can signal a wake.
A module parameter is added to make integration of new Slave devices
easier, to e.g. keep the device active or prevent clock-stop.
Note that we need to we have to disable runtime pm before device
unregister, otherwise we will see "Failed to power up link: -11" error
on module remove test.

The hierarchy of soundwire devices is platform device -> M device -> S
device. A S device is physically attached on the platform device. So the
platform device should be resumed when a S device is resumed. As the
bridge of platform device and S device, we have to implement runtime pm
on M driver. We have set runtime pm ops in M driver already, but still
need to enable runtime pm.

When system is suspended in clock stop mode on intel platforms, both
master and slave are in clock stop mode and soundwire bus is taken
over by a glue hardware. The bus message for jack event is processed
by this glue hardware, which will trigger an interrupt to resume audio
pci device. Then audio pci driver will resume soundwire master and slave,
transfer bus ownership to master, finally slave will report jack event
to master and codec driver is triggered to check jack status.
if a slave has been attached to a bus, the slave->dev_num_sticky
should be non-zero, so we can check this value to skip the
ghost devices defined in ACPI table but not populated in hardware.

The existing code uses one pair of interrupt handler/thread per link
but at the hardware level the interrupt is shared. This works fine for
legacy PCI interrupts, but leads to timeouts in MSI (Message-Signaled
Interrupt) mode, likely due to edges being lost.
This patch unifies interrupt handling for all links. The dedicated
handler is removed since we use a common one for all shared interrupt
sources, and the thread function takes care of dealing with interrupt
sources. This partition follows the model used for the SOF IPC on
HDaudio platforms, where similar timeout issues were noticed and doing
all the interrupt handling/clearing in the thread improved
reliability/stability.
Validation results with 4 links active in parallel show a night-and-day
improvement with no timeouts noticed even during stress tests. Latency
and quality of service are not affected by the change - mostly because
events on a SoundWire link are throttled by the bus frame rate
(typically 8..48kHz).

Make sure all symbols in this soundwire-intel-init module are exported
with a namespace.
The MODULE_IMPORT_NS will be used in Intel/SOF HDaudio modules to be
posted in a separate series.
Namespaces are only introduced for the Intel parts of the SoundWire
code at this time, in future patches we should also add namespaces for
Cadence parts and the SoundWire core.

Somehow the existing code is not aligned with the steps described in
the documentation, refactor code and make sure the register
programming sequences are correct. Also add missing power-up,
power-down and wake capabilities (the last two are used in follow-up
patches but introduced here for consistency).
Some of the SHIM registers exposed fields that are link specific, and
in addition some of the power-related registers (SPA/CPA) take time to
be updated. Uncontrolled access leads to timeouts or errors. Add a
mutex, shared by all links, so that all accesses to such registers are
serialized, and follow a pattern of read-modify-write.
This includes making sure SHIM_SYNC is programmed only once, before
the first master is powered on. We use a 'shim_mask' field, shared
between all links and protected by a mutex, to deal with power-up and
power-down sequences.
Note that the SYNCPRD value is tied only to the XTAL value and not the
current bus frequency or the frame rate.

The current memory allocation is somewhat strange: the dma_data is
allocated in set_sdw_stream, but released in the intel DAI
shutdown. This no longer works with the multi-cpu implementation,
since the dma_data is released in the dai shutdown which takes place
before the dailink shutdown.
Move to a more symmetric allocation where the dma_data is allocated
with non-NULL SoundWire stream, and conversely released when a NULL
stream is provided - for consistency with the stream startup and
shutdown operations.

The SoundWire 1.2 specification adds new registers to allow for
seamless clock changes while audio transfers are on-going. Program
them following the specification.
Note that dynamic clock changes are not supported for now, this only
adds the register initialization.

The SoundWire 1.2 specification adds new capabilities that were not
present in previous version, such as the class ID.
To enable support for class drivers, and well as drivers that address
a specific version, all fields of the sdw_device_id structure need to
be exposed. For SoundWire 1.0 and 1.1 devices, a wildcard is used so
class and version information are ignored.

Rather than a plain-vanilla init/exit, this patch provides 3 steps in
the initialization needed for driver selection, machine driver
selection and deal with power rail dependencies.
- ACPI scan: this step is done at a very early stage to detect the
presence of a SoundWire Controller and enabled links at the BIOS
level. This step may be called from the legacy HDaudio driver, which
will abort its probe to let the Sound Open Firmware (SOF) handle the
hardware.
- probe: this step allocates all the required memory and will add a
sdw_bus, which in turn will result in identifying all possible Slaves
listed below the Controller ACPI companion device. All the information
is reported to the parent PCI driver which will select the relevant
machine driver.
- startup: this last step starts the bus reset, which results in Slave
devices reporting as ATTACHED and being enumerated. This step is only
done during the card creation stage, after the DSP is powered to
account for internal power rail dependencies.
These 3 steps are already supported in the Sound Open firmware
drivers and upstream.

The use of drvdata mixes two structures. There was no harm the first
structure is embedded as the first element of the second, but that's
not good. Make sure all drvdata is based on the 'sdw_cdns' structure.
While we are at it, remove indirections for 'dev' and 'cdns' to make
the code more readable.

Expose MIPI DisCo Slave properties in sysfs.
For Slave properties and Data Port 0, the attributes are managed with
simple devm_ support.
A Slave Device may have more than one Data Port (DPN), and each Data
Port can be sink or source. The attributes are created dynamically
using pre-canned macros, but still use devm_ with a name attribute
group to avoid creating kobjects - as requested by GregKH. In the
_show function, we use container_of() to retrieve port number and
direction required to extract the information.
Audio modes are not supported for now. Depending on the discussions
the SoundWire Device Class, we may add it later as is or follow the
new specification.

In the existing SoundWire code, Master Devices are not explicitly
represented - only SoundWire Slave Devices are exposed (the use of
capital letters follows the SoundWire specification conventions).
With the existing code, the bus is handled without using a proper device,
and bus->dev typically points to a platform device. The right thing to
do as discussed in multiple reviews is use a device for each bus.
The sdw_master_device addition is done with minimal internal plumbing
and not exposed externally. The existing API based on
sdw_bus_master_add() and sdw_bus_master_delete() will deal with the
sdw_master_device life cycle, which minimizes changes to existing
drivers.
Note that the Intel code will be modified in follow-up patches (no
impact on any platform since the connection with ASoC is not supported
upstream so far).

this is a preparatory patch before the introduction of the
sdw_master_type. The SoundWire slave support is slightly modified with
the use of a sdw_slave_type, and the uevent handling move to
slave.c (since it's not necessary for the master).

sdw_bus_master prefix and add a parent and fwnode argument to
sdw_bus_master_add to help with device registration in follow-up
patches.
No functionality change, just renames and additional arguments.
The Intel code is currently unused, the two additional arguments are
only needed for compilation.

Here is the big set of char/misc/other driver patches for 5.7-rc1.

According to SoundWire Specification Version 1.2.
"A Data Port number X (in the range 0-14) which supports only one
value of WordLength may implement the WordLength field in the
DPX_BlockCtrl1 Register as Read-Only, returning the fixed value of
WordLength in response to reads."
As WSA881x interfaces in PDM mode making the only field "WordLength"
in DPX_BlockCtrl1" fixed and read-only. Behaviour of writing to this
register on WSA881x soundwire slave with Qualcomm Soundwire Controller
is throwing up an error. Not sure how other controllers deal with
writing to readonly registers, but this patch provides a way to avoid
writes to DPN_BlockCtrl1 register by providing a read_only_wordlength
flag in struct sdw_dpn_prop

Driver should clear FIFO in PDI, or the previously stored sample data
in FIFO will generate pop noise when stream is started. The soft reset
bit will clear all the FIFO to zero and is self-cleared after that.

This is a good idea on paper, but it's not recommended at all when
operating in multi-master mode. It's also not recommended when doing
bank switches, since the retransmission would happen at the next SSP,
and the command protocol is stuck in the mean time.

In multi-master mode, the IP will only accept SSP intervals with
integer relationships between the frame rate and the gsync frequency.
E.g for a 48kHz frame rate and 4 kHz gsync signal, the SSP interval
can only be 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12.
To simplify we only allow one SSP per gsync interval.

Intel QA reported a very rare case, possibly hardware-dependent, where
a Slave can become UNATTACHED during a clock stop sequence, which
leads to timeouts and failed suspend sequences.
This patch suppresses the handling of all Slave events while this
transition happens. The two cases that matter are:
a) alerts: if the Slave wants to signal an alert condition, it can do
so using the in-band wake, so there's almost no impact with this
patch.
b) sync loss or imp-def reset: in those cases, bringing back the Slave
to functional state requires a complete re-enumeration. It's better to
just ignore this case and restart cleanly, rather than attempt a
'clean' suspend.
Validation results show the timeouts no longer visible with this patch.

After system resumes from S3, io timeout occurs when setting one
unused master on Comet Lake platform. In this case, the master is
reset to default state, and FIFOLEVEL is reset to default value,
but msg_count used for tracing FIFOLEVEL is still with old value,
so FIFOLEVEL will not be set if a new msg FIFO usage is equal to
the old msg_count.
This patch updates msg_count to default value of FIFOLEVEL when
resetting master.
Tested on Comet Lake platform.

Add support for clock stop and restart, with two configuration
parameters:
1) when entering the ClockStop mode, Slave-initiated wakes can be
prevented.
2) When exiting the ClockStop mode, the caller can request a Bus Reset
(either if all Slaves were configured in ClockStopMode1 or the Master
IP lost context and enumeration is required)
The code handles the case where no Slaves are present by configuring
the IP to treat COMMAND_IGNORED as success.
The exit_reset part can be dealt with in the caller, along with the
required syncArm/syncGo sequence in multi-link mode.

If a SoundWire link is enabled, but there are no Slave devices exposed
in firmware tables for this link, or no Slaves in ATTACHED or ALERT
mode, the CMD_IGNORED/-ENODATA error code on a broadcast write is
perfectly legit.
Filter this case to report errors and let the caller deal with the
CMD_IGNORED case.

There are two types of io errors when processing alert event.
a) the Master detects an ALERT status for e.g. a jack event and
invokes the implementation-defined function in the Slave driver to
check the jack status. At this time the codec is just suspended, so io
registers can't be accessed.
b) when waking up from clock stop mode1 state, where the bus needs a
complete re-enumeration, Slave registers can't be accessed until the
enumeration is complete.
This patch resumes the Slave device and waits for initialization
complete when processing slave alert event, so that registers on the
Slave can be accessed without timeouts or io errors.

Before removing the slave device, disable pm_runtime to prevent any
race condition with the resume being executed after the bus and slave
devices are removed.
Since this pm_runtime_disable() is handled in common routines,
implementations of Slave drivers do not need to call it in their
.remove() routine.

When resuming with a bus reset, we need to re-enumerate and restart
from UNATTACHED. The helper added in this patch helps implement a more
robust state machine avoiding race conditions on resume.
The unattach request is stored and will be used by Slave drivers, if
needed: Intel validation exposed a corner case where the Slave device
may transition to D3 when streaming stops, but streaming restarts
before the Master transitions to D3. In that case, the Slave status
was not cleared as UNATTACHED by the Master resuming, and the
wait_for_completion will time out.
When the slave resumes, it can check if a Master-initiated
re-enumeration and initialization took place and skip the
wait_for_completion() if there is no reason to wait.

Add support for pm_runtime with the appropriate error checks for
sdw_write/read functions, e.g. when pm_runtime is not supported.
Also expose internal functions without pm_runtime support, which are
required to perform any sort of suspend/resume operation, as well as
any enumeration tasks.

Waiting for the enumeration to be complete may not be enough for a
Slave driver, there is a possible race condition between resume
operations and initializations handled in an interrupt thread, which
can results in settings not being fully restored after system or
pm_runtime resume.
This patch builds on the changes added for enumeration_complete,
init_completion() is called when the Slave device becomes UNATTACHED,
as done with enumeration_complete.
The difference with the enumeration_complete case is that complete()
is signaled after the Slave device is fully initialized after the
.update_status() callback is called.
A Slave device driver can decide to wait on either of the two
complete() cases, depending on its initialization code and
requirements.

This patch adds the signaling needed for Slave drivers to wait until
the enumeration completes so that race conditions when issuing
read/write commands are avoided. The calls for wait_for_completion()
will be added in codec drivers in follow-up patches.
The order between init_completion() and complete() is deterministic,
the Slave is marked as UNATTACHED either during a Master-initiated
HardReset, or when the hardware detects the Slave no longer reports as
ATTACHED.

The driver probe takes care of basic initialization and is invoked
when a Slave becomes attached, after a match between the Slave DevID
registers and ACPI/DT entries.
The update_status callback is invoked when a Slave state changes,
e.g. when it is assigned a non-zero Device Number and it reports with
an ATTACHED/ALERT state.
The state change detection is usually hardware-based and based on the
SoundWire frame rate (e.g. double-digit microseconds) while the probe
is a pure software operation, which may involve a kernel module
load. In corner cases, it's possible that the state changes before the
probe completes.
This patch suggests the use of wait_for_completion to avoid races on
startup, so that the update_status callback does not rely on invalid
pointers/data structures.

In the Intel QA multi-pipelines test case, there are two pipelines for
playback and capture on the same bus. The test fails with an error
when setting port params:

This problem is root-caused to the programming of the capture stream
ports while it is not yet prepared, the calling sequence is:
(1) hw_params for playback. The playback stream provide the port
information to Bus.
(2) stream_prepare for playback, Transport and port parameters
are computed for playback.
(3) hw_params for capture. The capture stream provide the port
information to Bus, but it has not been prepared so is not
accounted for in the bandwidth allocation.
(4) stream_enable for playback. Program transport and port parameters
for all masters and slaves. Since the transport and port parameters
are not computed for capture stream, sdw_program_slave_port_params
will generate a error when setting port params for capture.
in step (4), we should only program the ports for the stream that have
been prepared. A stream that is only in CONFIGURED state should be
ignored, its ports will be programmed when it becomes PREPARED.
Tested on Comet Lake.

After a system suspend, the ALSA/ASoC core will invoke the .prepare()
callback and a TRIGGER_START when INFO_RESUME is not supported.
Likewise, when an underflow occurs, the .prepare callback will be invoked.
In both cases, the stream can be in DISABLED mode, and will transition
into the PREPARED mode. We however don't want the bus bandwidth to be
recomputed.

We don't need to prepare the stream again if the stream is already
prepared.
sdw_prepare_stream() could be called multiple times without calling
sdw_deprepare_stream(). We call sdw_prepare_stream() in the prepare
dai ops and sdw_deprepare_stream() in the hw_free dai ops. If an xrun
happens, sdw_prepare_stream() will be called but
sdw_deprepare_stream() will not, which results in an imbalance and an
invalid total bandwidth.

The state machine and notes don't accurately explain or allow
transitions from STREAM_DEPREPARED and STREAM_DISABLED.
Add more explanations and allow for more transitions as a result of a
trigger_stop(), trigger_suspend() and prepare(), depending on the
ALSA/ASoC layer behavior defined by the INFO_RESUME and INFO_PAUSE
flags.
Also add basic checks to help debug inconsistent states and illegal
state machine transitions.

If the programming of the dev_number fails due to an IO error, a new
device_number will be assigned, resulting in a leak.
Make sure we only assign a device_number once per Slave device.

Qualcomm SoundWire Master controller is present in most Qualcomm SoCs
either integrated as part of WCD audio codecs via slimbus or
as part of SOC I/O.
This patchset adds support to a very basic controller which has been
tested with WCD934x SoundWire controller connected to WSA881x smart
speaker amplifiers.

Config only needs to be updated when setting MCP_Config, MCP_Control
and MCP_CmdCtrl to make these register setting effective. When updating
config in master, master will communicate with slave to update status.
Communication will be failed when masters and slaves are in clock stop
state, and this unnecessary config update makes interrupt setting failed.
Tested on Comet Lake with soundwire enabled

If somehow we read the interrupt status while the IP is not powered
the result is probably undefined or 0xffffffff. We do know that some
of the bits are reserved and read as zero, so use as a filter to
discard invalid configurations.

Only keep pr_err to flag critical configuration errors that will
typically only happen during system integration.
For errors on prepare/deprepare/enable/disable, the caller can do a
much better job with more information on the DAI and device that
caused the issue.

The SoundWire DAIs for Intel platform are created in
drivers/soundwire/intel.c, while the communication with the Intel DSP
is all controlled in soc/sof/intel
When the DAI status changes, a callback is used to bridge the gap
between the two subsystems.
The naming of the existing 'config_stream' callback does not map well
with any of ALSA/ASoC concepts. This patch renames it as
'params_stream' to be more self-explanatory.
A new 'free_stream' callback is added in case any resources allocated
in the 'params_stream' stage need to be released. In the SOF
implementation, this is used in the hw_free case to release the DMA
channels over IPC.
These two callbacks now rely on structures which expose the link_id
and alh_stream_id (required by the firmware IPC), instead of a list of
parameters. The 'void *' definitions are changed to use explicit
types, as suggested on alsa-devel during earlier reviews.

The current interfaces between ASoC and SoundWire are limited by the
platform_device infrastructure to an init() and exit() (mapped to the
platform driver.probe and .remove)
To help with the platform detection, machine driver selection and
management of power dependencies between DSP and SoundWire IP, the
ASoC side requires:
a) an ACPI scan helper, to report if any devices are exposed in the
DSDT tables, and if any links are disabled by the BIOS.
b) a probe helper that allocates the resources without actually
starting the bus.
c) a startup helper which does start the bus when all power
dependencies are settled.
d) an exit helper to free all resources
e) an interrupt_enable/disable helper, typically invoked after the
startup helper but also used in suspend routines.
This patch moves all required interfaces to sdw_intel.h, mainly to
allow SoundWire and ASoC parts to be merged separately once the header
files are shared between trees.
To avoid compilation issues, the conflicts in intel_init.c are blindly
removed. This would in theory prevent the code from working, but since
there are no users of the Intel Soundwire driver this has no
impact. Functionality will be restored when the removal of platform
devices is complete.
Support for SoundWire + SOF builds will only be provided once all the
required pieces are upstream.

The uniqueID is useful when there are two or more devices of the same
type (identical manufacturer ID, part ID) on the same link.
When there is a single device of a given type on a link, its uniqueID
is irrelevant. It's not uncommon on actual platforms to see variations
of the uniqueID, or differences between devID registers and ACPI _ADR
fields.
This patch suggests a filter on startup to identify 'single' devices
and tag them accordingly. The uniqueID is then not used for the probe,
and the device name omits the uniqueID as well.

The use of clock stop is not a requirement, the IP can e.g. be
completely power gated and not detect any wakes while in s2idle/deep
sleep.
For now clock-stop is not supported anyways so the control parameter
is always false. This will be revisited when we add clock stop.

Multiple changes squashed in single patch to avoid tick-tock effect
and avoid breaking compilation/bisect
1. Per the hardware documentation, all changes to MCP_CONFIG,
MCP_CONTROL, MCP_CMDCTRL and MCP_PHYCTRL need to be validated with a
self-clearing write to MCP_CONFIG_UPDATE. Add a helper and do the
update when the CONFIG is changed.
2. Move interrupt enable after interrupt handler registration
3. Add a new helper to start the hardware bus reset with maximum duration
to make sure the Slave(s) correctly detect the reset pattern and to
ensure electrical conflicts can be resolved.
4. flush command FIFOs
Better error handling will be provided after interrupt disable is
provided in follow-up patches.

There are two issues, likely copy/paste:
1. Use cdns->pcm.num_in instead of stream_num_in for consistency with
the rest of the code. This was not detected earlier since platforms did
not have input-only PDIs.
2. use the correct offset for bi-dir PDM, based on IN and OUT
PDIs. Again this was not detected since PDM was not supported earlier.

PDI0/1 are reserved for Bulk and filtered out in the existing code.
That leads to endless confusions on whether the index is the raw or
corrected one. In addition we will need support for Bulk at some point
so it's just simpler to expose those PDIs and not use it for now than
try to be smart unless we have to remove the smarts.
This patch requires a topology change to use PDIs starting at offset 2
explicitly.
Note that there is a known discrepancy between hardware documentation
and what ALH stream works in practice, future fixes are likely.

The existing Linux code uses a 1:1 mapping between ports and PDIs, but
still has an independent allocation of ports and PDIs.
Let's simplify the code and remove the port layer by only using PDIs.
This patch does not change any functionality, just removes unnecessary
code.
This will also allow for further simplifications where the PDIs are
not dynamically allocated but instead described in a topology file.

On most hardware platforms, SoundWire interfaces are pin-muxed with
other interfaces (typically DMIC or I2S) and the status of each link
needs to be checked at boot time.
For Intel platforms, the BIOS provides a menu to enable/disable the
links separately, and the information is provided to the OS with an
Intel-specific _DSD property. The same capability will be added to
revisions of the MIPI DisCo specification.

The hardware and ACPI info may report the presence of links that are
not physically enabled (e.g. due to pin-muxing or hardware reworks),
which in turn can result in errors being thrown. This shouldn't be the
case for production devices but will happen a lot on development
devices - even more so when they expose a connector.
Even when the ACPI information is correct, it's useful to be able to
only enable the links that need attention - mostly to filter out
dynamic debug messages.
Add a module parameter to filter out such links, e.g. adding the
following config to a file in /etc/modprobe.d will select the second
and third links only.

Now that the prototype and Intel implementation are enabled, use this
property to avoid hard-coded values.
For example for ICL the mclk_freq value is 38.4 MHz while on CNL/CML
it's 24 MHz. The mclk_freq should not be confused with the
max_clk_freq, which si the maximum bus clock. The mclk_freq is
typically tied to the oscillator frequency and does not change between
platforms. The max_clk_freq value is linked to the maximum bandwidth
needed and topology/trace length.

In a couple of cases where we loop on a list of runtimes, the code
handling of the 'bus' variable leads to warnings that it may not be
initialized. Add a specific error case to trap such cases.

When we disable the stream and then call hw_free, two bank switches
will be handled and as a result we re-enable the stream on hw_free.
Make sure the stream is disabled on both banks.
TODO: we need to completely revisit all this and make sure we have a
mirroring mechanism between current and alternate banks.

Add a prefix for common tables and export 2 helpers to set the frame
shapes based on row/col values.
These changes simplify bandwidth allocation algorithms as well as the
Cadence parts which all need to convert from frame shape to indices
used by the standard. These helpers are used in the following patch.

On all released Intel controllers (CNL/CML/ICL), PDI2 reports an
invalid count, force the correct hardware-supported value
This may have to be revisited with platform-specific values if the
hardware changes, but for now this is good enough.

This should not happen in production systems but we should test for
all callback arguments before invoking the config_stream callback.
Update the prototype to clarify that the first argument is mandatory.
Also use local variable instead of multiple dereferences to improve
readability.

Assigning a device number to a Slave will result in additional events
when it reports its status in a PING frame. There is no point in
dealing with all the other devices in a loop, this can be done when a
non-device0 event happens.

Add mask to correctly read the SoundWire SHIM LCAP register. Only bits
2..0 are meaningful, the rest is about link synchronization and stream
channel mapping. Without this mask, the hardware information would
always be larger than whatever the BIOS would report.
Also trap the case with zero links.

There is an assumption that the first two PDIs are reserved for Bulk,
so we need to make sure the number of bidir PDIs is indeed larger than
two. If the configuration provided is incorrect, this could lead to
allocating a huge amount of memory.

The Slave status mask exposes 4 sticky bits. When the device loses
sync, the IP will report two status but the log will only show that
the device lost sync. The status mask has all the information needed
so let's report it instead.
Also change the resolution of the mask, using 64 bits is not needed
when you need 4.

When commands start failing, e.g. due to a bad electrical connection
or bus conflicts, the dmesg log is flooded. This should not happen for
production devices but it's quite frequent when bringing-up a new
platform.

The existing definitions are ambiguous and possibly misleading.
For DP0, 'flow-control' is only relevant for the BRA protocol and
should not be confused with async modes explicitly not supported for
DP0, add prefix to follow MIPI DisCo definition
The use of 'device_interrupts' is also questionable. The MIPI
SoundWire spec defines Slave-, DP0- and DPN-level
implementation-defined interrupts. Using the 'device' prefix in the
last two cases is misleading, not only is the term 'device' overloaded
but these properties are only valid at the DP0 and DPn levels. Rename
to follow the MIPI definitions, no need to be creative here.

The MIPI DisCo specification for SoundWire defines the
"mipi-sdw-link-N-subproperties" for slaves and
"mipi-sdw-master-N-subproperties" for controllers. This is a mistake
that was not identified until now.
Existing Intel DSDT tables use 'link' everywhere, and the MIPI spec
will be updated to deprecate "mipi-sdw-master-N-subproperties"
Fix to parse firmware information on existing devices. If we ever see
a system with 'master-N-subproperties' I guess we'll have to try both.

The convention is that the SoundWire controller device is a child of
the HDAudio controller. However there can be more than one child
exposed in the DSDT table, and the current namespace walk returns the
last (incorrect) device.
Intel documentation states that bits 28..31 of the _ADR field
represent the link type, with SoundWire assigned the value 4.
Add a filter and terminate early when a valid _ADR is provided,
otherwise keep iterating to find the next child.
