This test is not doing anything since it is always false if the
mISDN_read() is called from vfs_read(). Besides that the driver uses
nonseekable_open() and is not using off or file->f_pos anywhere.

osst_read()/osst_write() modify file->f_pos directly instead of the ppos
given to them. The VFS later updates the file->f_pos and overwrites it
with the value of ppos.

This adds three new types of kernel "crashes" in the lkdtm driver to
trigger hardlockups, softlockups and task hung states at will.
The first two are useful to test the new generic lockup detector and check
its further regressions. The latter one is a bonus to check the hung task
detector regressions even though it's not currently in rework.

Ramoops, like mtdoops, can log oops/panic information but in RAM. It can
be used with persistent RAM for systems without flash support. In
addition, for this systems, with this driver, it's no more needed add to
the kernel the mtd subsystem with advantage in footprint.
It can be used in a very easy way with persistent RAM for systems without
flash support. For these systems, with this driver, it is no longer
required to cinlude mtd subsystem with an advantage in footprint. In
addition, you can save flash space and store this information only in RAM.

If run_to_completion flag is set, it means that we are running in a
single-threaded mode, and thus no locks are held.
This fixes a deadlock when IPMI notifier is being called during panic.

The timeouts in IPMI are in the 1-5 second range in message handling, so a
1 second timeout is a reasonable thing to do. This should help with
reducing power consumption on idle systems.

Some odd systems may have multiple BMCs, and we want to be able to support
them. Let's make the assumption that if a system legitimately has
multiple BMCs then each BMC's SI will be of the same type, and also that
we won't see multiple SIs of the same type unless we have multiple BMCs.
If these hold true then we should register all SIs of the same type.

If we're not currently in the middle of a transaction, and if we have
interrupts, there's no real reason to poll the controller more frequently
than the core IPMI code does. Set the interrupt_disabled flag
appropriately as the interrupt state changes, and make the timeout code
reset itself only if the transaction is incomplete or we have no
interrupts.

The ipmi spec provides an ordering for si discovery. Change the driver to
match, with the exception of preferring smbios to SPMI as HPs (at least)
contain accurate information in the former but not the latter.

A few architectures, like OMAP, allow you to set a debouncing time for the
gpio before generating the IRQ. Teach gpiolib about that.

The current message, 'not registered' is confusing as it implies it was
not registered with something, whereas printing 'failed to register'
implies it was the gpiochip_add() call that did not work correctly.

Fix a bug I noticed while hacking on the max732x driver for interrupt
support. According to the datasheets, open-drain pins have to be
configured as output-high (which in that case is actually high impedance)
to be used as input.

SDIO specification allows RAW (Read after Write) operation using
IO_RW_DIRECT command (CMD52) by setting the RAW bit. This operation is
similar to ordinary read/write commands, except that both write and read
are performed using single command/response pair. The Linux SDIO layer
already supports this internaly, only external function is missing for
drivers to make use, which is added by this patch.
This type of command is required to implement proper power save mode
support in wl1251 wifi driver.
Android has similar patch for G1 in it's tree for the same reason:

Even though many mmc host drivers pass a pm_message_t argument to
mmc_suspend_host() that argument isn't used the by MMC core. As host
drivers are converted to dev_pm_ops they'll have to construct
pm_message_t's (as they won't be passed by the PM subsystem any more) just
to appease the mmc suspend interface.
We might as well just delete the unused paramter.

Convert PM operations to use dev_pm_ops. This will facilitate the runtime
PM coversion which will add to dev_pm_ops hooks.
Note that dev_pm_ops version of the suspend hook no longer takes a 'state'
argument. However, the MMC core function mmc_suspend_host() still takes a
'state' argument, but it is unused, so a dummy state variable was created
to pass to the MMC core.
In the future, the MMC core should be converted to drop this state
argument and the rest of the MMC drivers could be easily converted to
dev_pm_ops as well.

The following changes were needed:
- do not use in_interrupt() because it will not work
with threaded interrupts
In addition, the following improvements were made:
- ensure DMA is unmapped only after the final DMA interrupt
- ensure a request is completed only after the final DMA interrupt
- disable controller interrupts when a request is not in progress
- remove the spin-lock protecting the start of a new request from
an unexpected interrupt because the locking was complicated and
a 'req_in_progress' flag suffices (since the spin-lock only defers
the unexpected interrupts anyway)
- instead use the spin-lock to protect the MMC interrupt handler
from the DMA interrupt handler
- remove the semaphore preventing DMA from being started while
the previous DMA is still in progress - the other changes make that
impossible, so it is now a BUG_ON condition
- ensure the controller interrupt status is clear before exiting
the interrrupt handler
In general, these changes make the code safer but do not fix any specific
bugs so backporting is not necessary.

The s3c6410 sdhci controller does not support the 'End' attribute and NOP
attribute in the same 8-Byte ADMA descriptor. This patch adds a new quirk
to identify sdhci host contollers with such behaviour. In addition to
this, for controllers using the new quirk, the last entry in the ADMA
descritor table is marked with the 'End' attribute (instead of using a NOP
descriptor with 'End' attribute).

the same names subject to preprocessing. This leads to the following

Atmel-mci support for SDIO interrupts. This adds the enable_sdio_irq()
function and the configuration of sdio irq mask per slot. With this irq
mask information, we keep the idea of multiple slot per sd/mmc host (not
only A and B). MMC_CAP_SDIO_IRQ is added according to slot configuration.
A new little function is added to run mmc_signal_sdio_irq() during
interrupt handling routine.

The clearing of mrq via a memset at the top of the for loop in
mmc_wait_for_app_cmd() is not required as mrq is not used and there is
another clearing of mrq just below. We remove the first memset since if
the initial tests in the for loop fail the memset is not required.

Improve the suspend and resume callbacks in DaVinci MMC host controller
driver. Modify the reset status of the contorller and clock during
suspend and resume. Also migrate the power management callbacks from
platform driver to dev_pm_ops structure.
Tested on DA850/OMAP-L138 EVM.

Some hosts (e.g. as found in CNS3xxx SOCs) report wrong value in
CLOCK_BASE capability field, and currently there is no way to force the
SDHCI core to use the platform-provided base clock value.
This patch implements CAP_CLOCK_BASE_BROKEN quirk. When enabled, the
SDHCI core will always use base clock frequency provided by the platform.

The omap850 and omap730 use 16-bit registers instead of 32-bit, requiring
a modification of the register addresses in the mmc-omap driver. To
resolve this, a bit shift is performed on base register addresses, either
by 1 or 2 bits depending on the CPU in use. This yields the correct
registers for each CPU.

On some platforms like DM355, the number of EDMA parameter slots available
for EDMA_SLOT_ANY usage are few. In such cases, if MMC/SD uses 16 slots
for each instance of MMC controller, then the number of slots available
for other modules will be very few.
By passing the number of EDMA slots to be used in MMC driver from platform
data, EDMA slots available for other purposes can be controlled.
Most of the platforms will not use this platform data variable. But on
DM355, as the number of EDMA resources available is limited, the number of
scatter- gather segments used inside the MMC driver can be 8 (passed as
platform data) instead of 16. On DM355, when the number of scatter-gather
segments was reduced to 8, I saw a performance difference of about
0.25-0.4 Mbytes/sec during write. Read performance variations were
negligible.

Bigger Nexio touchscreens not only send more data but also the header
values are modified somewhat. Fix the header (it's a guesswork but
it works at least on one 46" touchscreen with 2.00SMS firmware) and
also increase rept_size.

In probe(), if regulator_get() failed, an error code was not being
returned causing the driver to be successfully bound, even though
probe failed. This in turn caused the suspend, resume and remove
methods to be registered and accessed via the SPI core. Since these
functions all access private driver data using pointers that had been
freed during the failed probe, this would lead to unpredictable
behavior.
This patch ensures that probe() returns an error code in this failure
case so the driver is not bound.
Found using lockdep and noticing the lock used in the suspend/resum
path pointed to a bogus lock due to the freed memory.

The current checksum offload code does not work and this corrects
that functionality. It also updates the interrupt coallescing
initialization so than there are fewer interrupts and performance
is increased.

As part of the earlier patches submitted and reviewed, it was agreed
to change the way serdes tuning parameters were specified to the
driver. The updated patch got dropped by the linux-rdma email list so
the earlier version of qib_iba7322.c ended up being used. This patch
updates qib_iab7322.c to the simpler, single parameter method of
setting the serdes parameters.

Some of the qib sysfs code passes a buffer pointer into
simple_read_from_buffer() but relies on a function call in another
parameter of the same call to initialize that pointer. Since the order
of evaluation of function parameters is undefined, this will break if
gcc chooses the wrong order.
Fix this by splitting the code into two separate function calls.
This was noticed because of warnings like the following on ppc:

This is S6E63M0 AMOLED LCD Panel(480x800) driver using 3-wired SPI
interface also almost features for lcd panel driver has been implemented
in here. and I added new structure common for all the lcd panel drivers
to include/linux/lcd.h file.
LCD Panel driver needs interfaces for controlling device power such as
power on/off and reset. these interfaces are device specific so it should
be implemented to machine code at this time, we should create new
structure for registering these functions as callbacks and also a header
file for that structure and finally registered callback functions would be
called by lcd panel driver. such header file(including new structure for
lcd panel) would be added for all the lcd panel drivers.
If anyone provides common structure for registering such callback
functions then we could reduce unnecessary header files for lcd panel. I
thought that suitable anyone could be include/linux/lcd.h so a new
lcd_platform_data structure was added there.

The EP9307, EP9312, and EP9315 processors include a framebuffer
peripheral. This peripheral has a dedicated pwm output called
BRIGHT that can be used to control the backlight on an LCD.

In current implementation, if device_create_file failed in register_nasgpio_led,
led_classdev_unregister will be executed twice.
( in register_nasgpio_led it calls led_classdev_unregister before return and in nas_gpio_init out_err )
This patch fixes it by only unregistering those that were successfully registered in out_err.
( not including last failed register_nasgpio_led call )

The leds-gpio blink_set() callback follows the same prototype as the
main leds subsystem blink_set() one.
The problem is that to stop blink, normally, a leds driver does it
in the brightness_set() callback when asked to set a new fixed value.
However, with leds-gpio, the platform has no hook to do so, as this
later callback results in a standard GPIO manipulation.
This changes the leds-gpio specific callback to take a new argument
that indicates whether the LED should be blinking or not and in what
state it should be set if not. We also update the dns323 platform
which seems to be the only user of this so far.

There are ATAPI devices which raise AN when hit by commands issued by
open(). This leads to infinite loop of AN -> MEDIA_CHANGE uevent ->
udev open() to check media -> AN.
Both ACS and SerialATA standards don't define in which case ATAPI
devices are supposed to raise or not raise AN. They both list media
insertion event as a possible use case for ATAPI ANs but there is no
clear description of what constitutes such events. As such, it seems
a bit too naive to export ANs directly to userland as MEDIA_CHANGE
events without further verification (which should behave similarly to
windows as it apparently is the only thing that some hardware vendors
are testing against).
This patch adds libata.atapi_an module parameter and disables ATAPI AN
by default for now.

Make BMDMA optional depending on new config variable CONFIG_ATA_BMDMA.
In Kconfig, drivers are grouped into five groups - non-SFF native, SFF
w/ custom DMA interface, SFF w/ BMDMA, PIO-only SFF, and generic
fallback / legacy ones. Kconfig and Makefile are reorganized
according to the groups and ordered alphabetically inside each group.
ata_ioports.bmdma_addr and ata_port.bmdma_prd[_dma] are put into
CONFIG_ATA_BMDMA, as are all bmdma related ops, variables and
functions.
This increase the binary size slightly when BMDMA is enabled but on
both native-only and PIO-only configurations the size is slightly
reduced. Either way, the size difference is insignificant. This
change is more meaningful to signify the separation between SFF and
BMDMA and as a tool to verify the separation.

Separate out BMDMA irq handler from SFF irq handler. The misnamed
host_intr() functions are renamed to ata_sff_port_intr() and
ata_bmdma_port_intr(). Common parts are factored into
__ata_sff_port_intr() and __ata_sff_interrupt() and used by sff and
bmdma interrupt routines.
All BMDMA drivers now use ata_bmdma_interrupt() or
ata_bmdma_port_intr() while all non-BMDMA SFF ones use
ata_sff_interrupt() or ata_sff_port_intr().
For now, ata_pci_sff_init_one() uses ata_bmdma_interrupt() as it's
used by both SFF and BMDMA drivers.

ata_sff_irq_clear() is BMDMA specific. Rename it to
ata_bmdma_irq_clear(), move it to ata_bmdma_port_ops and make
->sff_irq_clear() optional.
Note: ata_bmdma_irq_clear() is actually only needed by ata_piix and
possibly by sata_sil. This should be moved to respective low
level drivers later.

Certain firmware commands/operations to upgrade firmware could take several
seconds to complete. The code presently disables bottom half during these
operations which could lead to unpredictable behaviour in certain cases. This
patch now does all firmware upgrade operations asynchronously using a
completion variable.

This adds:
alias: devname:<name>
to some common kernel modules, which will allow the on-demand loading
of the kernel module when the device node is accessed.
Ideally all these modules would be compiled-in, but distros seems too
much in love with their modularization that we need to cover the common
cases with this new facility. It will allow us to remove a bunch of pretty
useless init scripts and modprobes from init scripts.
The static device node aliases will be carried in the module itself. The
program depmod will extract this information to a file in the module directory:

A few device nodes are switched to statically allocated numbers, to allow
the static nodes to work. This might also useful for systems which still run
a plain static /dev, which is completely unsafe to use with any dynamic minor
numbers.
Note:
The devname aliases must be limited to the *common* and *single*instance*
device nodes, like the misc devices, and never be used for conceptually limited
systems like the loop devices, which should rather get fixed properly and get a
control node for losetup to talk to, instead of creating a random number of
device nodes in advance, regardless if they are ever used.
This facility is to hide the mess distros are creating with too modualized
kernels, and just to hide that these modules are not compiled-in, and not to
paper-over broken concepts. Thanks! :)

Commit ce6e74f2 ("RDMA/nes: Make nesadapter->phy_lock usage
consistent") introduced a problem where phy_lock was only unlocked
within an if statement and so nes_process_mac_intr() could return with
phy_lock still held. Fix this.
This was discovered because of the sparse warning:

This patch (as1357) fixes a race in SCSI target allocation and
release. Putting a target in the STARGET_DEL state isn't protected by
the host lock, so an old target structure could be reused by a new
device even though it's about to be deleted. The cure is to change
the state while still holding the host lock.

There are 2 major changes from v0.81 to v0.7:
1. Consolidating the SPIB/I2CB tables into a new DEVS table,
which is more expandable and can support other bus types
than spi/i2c.
2. Creating a new GPIO table, which list all the GPIO pins
used in the platform.
However, to avoid breaking current platforms who use SFI v0.7
version firmware, the definitions for SPIB/I2CB will still
be kept for a while

With VEOL, Beacon transmission in ad-hoc does not currently work.
I believe for larger ad-hoc networks, VEOL is too unreliable, as
it can get beacon transmissions stuck during synchronization.
Use SWBA based beacon trasmission similar to AP mode instead.

Fix a problem observed while using fb_defio with a short delay on a
PowerPC platform.
It is possible that page_mkclean() is invoked in the deferred io work
function _before_ a PTE has been marked dirty. In this case, the page is
removed from the defio pagelist but page_mkclean() does not write-protect
the page again. The end result is that defio ignores all subsequent
writes to the page and the corresponding portions of the framebuffer never
get updated.
The fix consists in keeping track of the pages with non-dirty PTEs,
re-checking them again on the next deferred io work iteration. Note that
those pages are not passed to the defio callback as they are not written
by userspace yet.

FBIO_WAITFORVSYNC is currently implemented by matroxfb, atyfb, intelfb and
more. All of them keep redefining the same FBIO_WAITFORVSYNC macro over
and over again, so move it to linux/fb.h and clean up those duplicate
defines.

This work includes the following:
- Implement handler for FBIO_WAITFORVSYNC ioctl.
- Allocate the data and palette buffers separately. A consequence of
this is that the palette and data loading is now done in different
phases. And that the LCD must be disabled temporarily after the palette
is loaded but this will only happen once after init and each time the
palette is changed. I think this is OK.
- Allocate two (ping and pong) framebuffers from memory.
- Add pan_display handler which toggles the LCDC DMA registers between
the ping and pong buffers.

Now that the WM831x core uses genirq for the IRQ controller there is no
need to use the WM831x-specific wrappers to request interrupts so convert
to use genirq directly.
Also use more meaningful strings to make /proc/interrupts more readily
legible.

The bug is an oops when dev_get_drvdata() returned null in
cmos_update_irq_enable(). The call tree looks like this:
rtc_dev_ioctl()
=> rtc_update_irq_enable()
=> cmos_update_irq_enable()
It's caused by a race condition in the module initialization. It is
rtc_device_register() which makes the ioctl operations live so I moved
the call to dev_set_drvdata() before the call to rtc_device_register().

The current ds1302 driver (or at least the one that lives in /drivers/rtc)
seems to be designed for memory mapped devices only. This make it quite
hard to add support for GPIO-based implementations (as this is the case
for the upcoming Arcom Vulcan).
This patch moves the direct register access to inline functions with
explicit names. Still not as good as a proper platform driver, but at
least neater.

Content for the 8bit device threaded interrupt handlers. Depending on the
interrupt line and chip configuration, either click or wakeup / freefall
handler is called. In case of click, BTN_ event is sent via input device.
In case of wakeup or freefall, input device ABS_ events are updated
immediatelly.
It is still possible to configure interrupt line 1 for fast freefall
detection and use the second line either for click or threshold based
interrupts. Or both lines can be used for click / threshold interrupts.
Polled input device can be set to stopped state and still get coordinate
updates via input device using interrupt based method. Polled mode and
interrupt mode can also be used parallel.
BTN_ events are remapped based on existing axis remapping information.

Original lis3 driver didn't provide interrupt handler(s) for click or
threshold event handling. This patch adds threaded handlers for one or
two interrupt lines for 8 bit device. Actual content for interrupt
handling is provided in the separate patch.

8 bit device has two wakeup / free fall units. It was not possible to
configure the second unit. This patch introduces configuration entry to
the platform data and also corresponding changes to the 8 bit setup
function.
High pass filters were enabled by default. Patch introduces configuration
option for high pass filter cut off frequency and also possibility to
disable or enable the filter via platform data. Since the control is a
new one and default state was filter enabled, new option is used to
disable the filter. This way old platform data is still compatible with
the change.

For misc devices, inode->i_cdev doesn't point to the device drivers own
data. Link between file operations and device driver internal data is
lost. Pass pointer to misc device struct via file private data for driver

drivers/char/hangcheck-timer.c is doubly broken. When the overflown value
of TIMER_FREQ is abnormally low, it spams the syslog with KERN_CRIT
messages "Hangcheck: hangcheck value past margin!" But whether it happens
or not depends on HZ and lpj in a complex way. People have hit it
occasionally as far as google search can tell.
First, the following line overflows unsigned long:
# define TIMER_FREQ (HZ*loops_per_jiffy)
Second, and more importantly, loops_per_jiffy has little to do with the
con= version from the the time scale of get_cycles() (aka rdtsc) to the
time scale of jiffies.
The attached patch resolves both of the problems.

Currently, the menu governor uses the (corrected) next timer as key item
for predicting the idle duration.
It turns out that there are specific cases where this breaks down: There
are cases where we have a very repetitive pattern of idle durations, where
the idle period is pretty much the same, for reasons completely unrelated
to the next timer event. Examples of such repeating patterns are network
loads with irq mitigation, the mouse moving but in theory also the wifi
beacons.
This patch adds a relatively simple detector for such repeating patterns,
where the standard deviation of the last 8 idle periods is compared to a
threshold.
With this extra predictor in place, measurements show that the DECAY
factor can now be increased (the decaying average will now decay slower)
to get an even more stable result.

Add a per-node sysfs file called compact. When the file is written to,
each zone in that node is compacted. The intention that this would be
used by something like a job scheduler in a batch system before a job
starts so that the job can allocate the maximum number of hugepages
without significant start-up cost.

The port data structure related to fc_host statistics collection is
not initialized. This causes system crash when reading the fc_host

Commit 5f487cd34f (power_supply: Use
attribute groups) causes a regression the power supply core does not
export the 'type' attribute anymore.
POWER_SUPPLY_PROP_TYPE is handled by the power supply core without the
low-level driver, so power_supply_attr_is_visible() must always return
the entry as readable.

All twl6030 regulators can be programmed from 1.0v to 3.3v
with 100mV steps.
The below formula can be used to calculate the vsel values
to be programmed in the VREG_VOLTAGE registers.
Voltage(in mV) = 1000mv + 100mv * (vsel - 1)
Ex: if vsel = 0x9, mV = 1000 + 100 * (9 -1) = 1800mV.
This patch removes all existing VSEL tables for twl6030 adjustable
regulators and just uses the formula directly for vsel calculations
after verifing they fall in the allowed range.

A lot of condition comparision statements are used in original driver. These
statements are used to check the boundary of voltage numbers since voltage
number isn't linear.

When one regulator supplies another allow the relationship to be specified
using names rather than struct regulators, in a similar manner to that
allowed for consumer supplies. This allows static configuration at compile
time, reducing the need for dynamic init code.
Also change the references to LINE supply to be system supply since line
is sometimes used for actual supplies and therefore potentially confusing.

For TCO V1 devices the programmed timeout was twice too long
because the fact that the TCO V1 timer needs to count down
twice before triggering the watchdog, wasn't accounted for.
Also the timeout values in the module description and error
message were clarified. And the _STS registers are 16 bit
instead of 8 bit.

Move the limited watchdog driver help from kernel-parameters.txt
to Documentation/watchdog/watchdog-parameters.txt and add info to it
for all watchdog drivers except the ones that have driver-specific
files already.
Correct minor comments and MODULE_PARM_DESC() text in 2 places.

Fix MODULE_PARM_DESC() strings in several watchdog drivers.
Some are simple as add a parenthesis.
Others are problems from __stringify() being used on a
variable name instead of a macro name, so the variable name
is produced in the string instead of its build-time value.
In these cases, create a macro for the value so that the
module param description string is useful.
Only pc87413_wdt has been built (due to toolchains).

Module roccat is a char device used to report special events of roccat hardware
to userland. These events include requests for on-screen-display of profile or
dpi settings or requests for execution of macro sequences that are not stored
in device. The information in these events depends on hid device implementation
and contains data that is not available in a single hid event or else hidraw
could have been used.
It is inspired by hidraw, but uses only one circular buffer for all readers.
The device is as generic as possible so that the functionality is usable by all
(kone and upcomming) roccat device drivers.

Commit 58f9b0b024, "of: eliminate
of_device->node and dev_archdata->{of,prom}_node" changed the location
of the device_node pointer. Most drivers were converted to the new
location, but the xilinx_spi_of driver was missed and now fails to
compile.
This patch fixes up the xilinx_spi_of driver to use the new location.
