CPF_CURRENTPITCH starts swerving towards PTRX_PITCHTARGET as soon as
that is set. In practice this means that CPF_FRACADDRESS may acquire a
non-zero value before we manage to force CPF_CURRENTPITCH to the final
value, which would prevent bit-for-bit reproduction.
To avoid that this state persists, we now reset CPF_FRACADDRESS when
setting CPF_CURRENTPITCH, and to (mostly) avoid that it progresses too
far in the first place (possibly even reaching CCCA_CURRADDR), we write
PTRX and CPF in one critical section (though NMIs, etc. still make this
unreliable).

Compensate for the cache delay, and actually populate the cache.
Without these, the playback would start with garbage (which would be
(mostly?) masqueraded by the attack phase).
Unlike for the PCM voices, this doesn't try to compensate for the
interpolator read-ahead, because it's pointless to be super-exact here.
Note that this code is probably still broken for particularly short
samples, because we ignore the loop-related parts of CCR. But I'm not

The period_bytes_min parameter and the buffer_bytes minimum constraint
made no sense at all, as they didn't reflect any hardware limitation.
Instead, apply a frame-based period_size minimum constraint, which is
derived from the cache size (it would be actually possible to go below
that, but it would require special handling, and it would be practically
impossible to keep up with the IRQ rate anyway).
Sync up the constraints of the EFX playback with those of the regular
playback, as there is no reason for them to diverge.

go waay beyond 128 KiB.

Originally, there was a 1:1 relationship between the PCM streams' and
the low-level voices' parameters. The addition of multi-channel playback
partially invalidated that, but didn't introduce proper layering, so
things kept working only by virtue of the multi-channel device never
having two channels (yet). The upcoming addition of 32-bit playback
would complete upending the relationships.
So this patch detaches the low-level parameters from the high-level
ones: we pass pre-calculated bit width and stereo flags to the low-level
manipulation functions instead of calculating them in-place from the
stream parameters.

... and move it to the mixer init, as it's logically part of it.
As a side effect, this fixes the initial values of the input destination
mixer controls, which would have previously remained at "Silent" despite
different defaults. This didn't really matter, though, as ALSA state
restoration would hide that bug beyond first use.
Note that this completely does away with clearing the output routing
registers, as it was rather pointless - we just programmed the FPGA
(resetting it first if necessary), so everything is zeroed anyway
(that's documented by Xilinx, and as further evidence, some of the loops
terminated too early, and we didn't bother clearing the high channels of
the input routes at all, all with no observed adverse effects).

Many registers are meaningless for stereo slaves and the extra voices.
This patch cleans up these unnecessary register writes.
snd_emu10k1_playback_{trigger,stop}_voice() is not called for stereo
slaves any more.
snd_emu10k1_playback_prepare_voice() is renamed to
snd_emu10k1_playback_unmute_voice(), as this better reflects its
remaining function. It's not called for the extra voices any more.
Accordingly, snd_emu10k1_playback_mute_voice() is factored out from
snd_emu10k1_playback_stop_voice(), and is called selectively as well.

sub-registers, as that wouldn't pull its weight.

We now enable ints even before triggering, and disable them only after
stopping - otherwise there is a race condition we may plausibly run into
when we pause/resume near the end of the buffer.
Updating the epcm->running flag is moved the same way, as it affects the
*_pointer() functions, which are called by the interrupt handler.
Also, factor these out to own functions, for clarity.
For multi-channel, the extra voice is now triggered after all regular
voices - we wouldn't want to receive an int before all channels have

The mixer structures were filled in two places: on driver init, and when
the devices are opened. The latter made the former pointless, so we
remove the former. This implies that mixer dumps may now return all
zeroes, which is OK, as restoring them is meaningless as well.
Things were even weirder for the (generally unused) secondary sends:
Some of the initialization loops were forgotten when support for Audigy
was added, thus creating the technically illegal state of multiple sends
being routed to the same FX accumulator (though it apparently doesn't
matter when the amount is zero).
The global multi-channel init used some rather bizarre values for the
secondary sends, and the init on open actually forgot to re-initialize
them. We now use a not really more useful, but simpler formula.
The direct register init was also bogus. This doesn't really matter, as
the value is overwritten when a voice comes into use, but still.

The voice volume is a raw fractional multiplier that can't actually
represent 1.0. To still enable real pass-through, we now set the volume
to 0.5 (which results in no loss of precision, as the FX bus provides
fractional values) and scale up the samples in DSP code.
To maintain backwards compatibility with existing configuration files,
we rescale the values in the mixer controls. The range is extended
upwards from 0xffff to 0x1fffd, which actually introduces the
possibility of specifying an amplification.
There is still a minor incompatibility with user space, namely if
someone loaded custom DSP code. They'll just get half the volume, so
this doesn't seem like a big deal.

Fractional multiplication with the maximal value 2^31-1 causes some tiny
distortion. Instead, we want to multiply with the full 2^31. The catch
is of course that this cannot be represented in the DSP's signed 32 bit
registers.
One way to deal with this is to encode 1.0 as a negative number and
special-case it. As a matter of fact, the SbLive! code path already
contained such code, though the controls never actually exercised it.
A more efficient approach is to use negative values, which actually
extend to -2^31. Accordingly, for all the volume adjustments we now use
the MAC1 instruction which negates the X operand.
The range of the controls in highres mode is extended downwards, so -1
is the new zero/mute. At maximal excursion, real zero is not mute any
more, but I don't think anyone will notice this behavior change. ;-)
That also required making the min/max/values in the control structs
signed. This technically changes the user space interface, but it seems
implausible that someone would notice - the numbers were actually
treated as if they were signed anyway (and in the actual mixer iface
they _are_). And without this change, the min value didn't even make
sense in the first place (and no-one noticed, because it was always 0).

Instead of spending lots of instructions on masking and transplanting
the sign bit, sidestep the issue by replacing the last bit shift with
a wrapping addition to self.
Solution stolen from kX-project, after I pondered other ideas first.
Also, the function really doesn't need to return a constant int value.

Presumably, JDC added the seemingly superfluous indirection over the
temporary register because without it he'd get only zero readings.
However, switching the X and Y operands (or using EMU32 as the A
operand in the temporary load) works just fine. Presumably a DSP bug?
The original code was also actually buggy, though: both channels used
the left volume control.

These models use 2 CS35L41 amplifiers using SPI for down-facing
speakers.
alc285_fixup_speaker2_to_dac1 is needed to fix volume control of the
down-facing speakers.
Pin configs are needed to enable headset mic detection.
Note that these models lack the ACPI _DSD properties needed to
initialize the amplifiers. They can be added during boot to get working
sound out of the speakers:

- Fix mixer source port names. These will require some users to
re-adjust their mixer settings, which seems acceptable:
- The S/PDIF port is on the main 1010 card, not the 0202 daughter card
- The 1616m CardBus card has all inputs on the dock, so there is
no point in specifying it
- Conversely, the 1010 card has "dispersed" inputs, so say where the
ADAT port is, consistently with the S/PDIF port
- The 1616m CardBus card is actually named E-MU 02 (due to the headphone
output jack it has)
- Fix capitalization of "E-MU"

Since commit 5bbb1ab5bd ("control: use counting semaphore as write lock
for ELEM_WRITE operation"), mixer values have been fully read-write
locked. This means that it is now unnecessary to apply any additional
locks to values that are accessed solely by mixer callbacks. Values that
are read outside mixer callbacks still need write locking. There are no
cases of mixer values being written outside mixer callbacks, so no read
locks remain in mixer callbacks.
Note that the removed locks refer only to the emu data structure, not
the card's registers as the lock's name suggests.

The function does read-modify-write cycles on the card's registers, and
doesn't access mutable members of the emu data structure.
I suppose this might have been a mixup due to the lock names being
logically swapped.

Contrary to its name, reg_lock locks the emu data structure, not the
registers. As the functions access only data which is set once at card
initialization, there is no point in locking it.
Actually locking the registers would be pointless as well, as
snd_emu10k1_intr_{en,dis}able() does its own locking, and TIMER is
accessed only in this one place.
Locking snd_emu10k1_timer_{start,stop}() against each other also
wouldn't buy us anything; the functions interleaving their I/O accesses
wouldn't introduce new problems.

Here are collections of small fixes for rc1.
The only (LOC-wise) dominant change was ASoC Qualcomm fix, but most
of it was merely a code shuffling.
Another significant change here is for ALSA PCM core; it received a
revert and a series of fixes for PCM auto-silencing where it caused
a regression in the previous PR for rc1.
Others are all small: ASoC Intel fixes, various quirks for ASoC AMD,
HD-audio and USB-audio, the continued legacy emu10k1 code cleanup,
and some documentation updates.

This patch adds support for the mute LED on the HP Pavilion Aero Laptop
13-be0xxx. The current behavior is that the LED does not turn on at any
time and does not indicate to the user whether the sound is muted.
The solution is to add a PCI quirk to properly recognize and support the
LED on this device.

A fairly standard release for SPI with the exception of a change to the
API for specifying chip selects done in preparation for supporting
devices with more than one chip select, this required some mechanical
changes throughout the tree which have been cooking in -next happily for
a while. There's also a new API to allow us to TPM chips on half duplex
controllers.
There's three commits in here that were mangled by a bad interaction
between the alsa-devel mailing list software and b4, I didn't notice
until there were merges on top with it being SPI not ALSA. It seemed
clear enough to not be worth going back and fixing.
- Refactoring in preparation for supporting multiple chip selects for a
single device, needed by some flash devices, which required a change
in the SPI device API visible throughout the tree.
- Support for hardware assisted interaction with SPI TPMs on half
duplex controllers, implemented on nVidia Tedra210 QuadSPI.
- Optimisation for large transfers on fsl-cpm devices.
- Cleanups around device property use which fix some sisues with
fwnode.
- Use of both void remove() and devm_platform_.*ioremap_resource().
- Support for AMD Pensando Elba, Amlogic A1, Cadence device mode,
Intel MetorLake-S and StarFive J7110 QuadSPI.
The final commit converting to DEV_PM_OPS() was applied late to fix a
warning that was introduced by some of the earlier work.

Add a set of HD Audio PCI IDS, and the HDMI codec vendor IDs for
Glenfly Gpus.
- In default_bdl_pos_adj, set bdl to 128 as Glenfly Gpus have hardware
limitation, need to increase hdac interrupt interval.
- In azx_first_init, enable polling mode for Glenfly Gpu. When the codec
complete the command, it sends interrupt and writes response entries to
memory, howerver, the write requests sometimes are not actually
synchronized to memory when driver handle hdac interrupt on Glenfly Gpus.
If the RIRB status is not updated in the interrupt handler,
azx_rirb_get_response keeps trying to recevie a response from rirb until
1s timeout. Enabling polling mode for Glenfly Gpu can fix the issue.

driver to do actual clean-ups for the linked codec when switch from one

Firstly, remove the FXWC_* defines - the comment on FXWC implies that
the relevant defines are the (A_)EXTOUT_* ones. It's unclear where this
came from - it was in the initial ALSA import, but neither the driver
from Creative nor kX-project have these defines.
Secondly, remove A_HR, which made plain no sense (was unused, and
clashed with FXRT). Amends commit cbb7d8f9b7 ("emu10k1: Update

Unlike the Alice2 chips used on 1st generation E-MU cards, the
Tina/Tina2 chips used on the 2nd gen cards have only six GPIN pins,
which means that we need to use a smaller mask. Failure to do so would
falsify the read data if the FPGA tried to raise an IRQ right at that
moment. This wasn't a problem so far, as we didn't actually enable FPGA
IRQs, but that's going to change soon.

As the register definition clearly states, this is a 16-bit register,
yet we did all accesses as 32-bit. The writes in particular would have
the potential to clear the TIMER register (depending on how the bus/card
actually handles the too long writes).
This commit also introduces a separate define A_GPIO which aliases
A_IOCFG, which better reflects the distinct usage on E-MU cards.
This is done in the same commit to keep the churn down, as we're

Detach it better from the main PCM driver, which it really doesn't have
much in common with.
In particular, this moves the interrupt handler implementation into
p16v.c, and makes it access the substream runtime status more directly,
so it doesn't need to abuse structs snd_emu10k1_pcm and
snd_emu10k1_voice any more.
We don't need private pcm runtime data at all, as the only thing it was
used for (except the back-link to the substream) was the `running` flag.
So store that directly in runtime->private_data.
This somewhat radical strip-down shows that this driver contains some
complexity that was never actually utilized. I suppose the right way to
fully utilize the hardware in a simple way would be introducing more
substreams. This wouldn't require any of the removed code.

Due to two copy/pastos, closing the MIC or EFX capture device would
make a running ADC capture hang due to unsetting its interrupt handler.
In principle, this would have also allowed dereferencing dangling
pointers, but we're actually rather thorough at disabling and flushing
the ints.
While it may sound like one, this actually wasn't a hypothetical bug:
PortAudio will open a capture stream at startup (and close it right
away) even if not asked to. If the first device is busy, it will just
proceed with the next one ... thus killing a concurrent capture.

When a DRM driver turns on or off the screen with the audio
capability, it notifies the ELD to HD-audio HDMI codec driver via
component ops. HDMI codec driver, in turn, attaches or detaches the
PCM stream for the given port on the fly.
The problem is that, since the recent code change, the HDMI driver
always treats the PCM stream assignment dynamically; this ended up the
confusion of the PCM device appearance. e.g. when a screen goes once
off and on again, it may appear on a different PCM device before the
screen-off. Although the application should treat such a change, it
doesn't seem working gracefully with the current pipewire (maybe
PulseAudio, too).
As a workaround, this patch changes the HDMI codec driver behavior
slightly to be more consistent. Now it remembers the previous PCM
slot for the given port and try to assign to it. That is, if a port
is re-enabled, the driver tries to use the same PCM slot that was
assigned to that port previously. If it conflicts, a new slot is
searched and used like before, instead.
Note that multiple monitor connections are the only typical case where
the PCM slot preservation is effective. As long as only a single
monitor is connected, the behavior isn't changed, and the first PCM
slot is still assigned always.

The recent commit f83bb25924 ("ALSA: hda/conexant: Add quirk for
LENOVO 20149 Notebook model") introduced a quirk for the device with
17aa:3977, but this caused a regression on another model (Lenovo
Ideadpad U31) with the very same PCI SSID. And, through skimming over
the net, it seems that this PCI SSID is used for multiple different
models, so it's no good idea to apply the quirk with the SSID.
Although we may take a different ID check (e.g. the codec SSID instead
of the PCI SSID), unfortunately, the original patch author couldn't
identify the hardware details any longer as the machine was returned,
and we can't develop the further proper fix.
In this patch, instead, we partially revert the change so that the
quirk won't be applied as default for addressing the regression.
Meanwhile, the quirk function itself is kept, and it's now made to be
applicable via the explicit model=lenovo-20149 option.

The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes
many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by
returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored
and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a
quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this
quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns
void.
Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove
callback to the void returning variant.

Supporting multi-cs in spi drivers would require the chip_select & cs_gpiod
members of struct spi_device to be an array. But changing the type of these
members to array would break the spi driver functionality. To make the
transition smoother introduced four new APIs to get/set the
spi->chip_select & spi->cs_gpiod and replaced all spi->chip_select and
spi->cs_gpiod references with get or set API calls.
While adding multi-cs support in further patches the chip_select & cs_gpiod
members of the spi_device structure would be converted to arrays & the
"idx" parameter of the APIs would be used as array index i.e.,
spi->chip_select[idx] & spi->cs_gpiod[idx] respectively.

Shared boost allows two amplifiers to share a single boost circuit by
communicating on the MDSYNC bus.
The passive amplifier does not control the boost and receives data from
the active amplifier.
Shared Boost is not supported in HDA Systems.

If snd_ctl_add() fails in aureon_add_controls(), it immediately returns
and leaves ice->gpio_mutex locked. ice->gpio_mutex locks in
snd_ice1712_save_gpio_status and unlocks in
snd_ice1712_restore_gpio_status(ice).
It seems that the mutex is required only for aureon_cs8415_get(),
so snd_ice1712_restore_gpio_status(ice) can be placed
just after that. Compile tested only.

This is a follow-up to the deprecation of most of the old-style board
files that was merged in linux-6.0, removing them for good.
This branch is almost exclusively dead code removal based on those
annotations. Some device driver removals went through separate subsystem
trees, but the majority is in the same branch, in order to better handle
dependencies between the patches and avoid breaking bisection.
Unfortunately that leads to merge conflicts against other changes in the
subsystem trees, but they should all be trivial to resolve by removing
the files.

Commit 586bc4aab8 ("ALSA: hda/hdmi - fix vgaswitcheroo detection for
AMD") caused only AMD gpu's with PX to have their audio component register
with vga_switcheroo. This meant that Apple Macbooks with apple-gmux as the
gpu switcher no longer had the audio client registering, so when the gpu is
powered off by vga_switcheroo snd_hda_intel is unaware that it should have
suspended the device:
amdgpu: switched off
snd_hda_intel 0000:03:00.1:
Unable to change power state from D3hot to D0, device inaccessible
snd_hda_intel 0000:03:00.1: CORB reset timeout#2, CORBRP = 65535
To resolve this, we use apple_gmux_detect() and register a
vga_switcheroo audio client when apple-gmux is detected.

To ensure firmware for cs35l41 is correctly running, it is necessary
that a corresponding tuning file is also loaded. Without both,
the firmware may not be performing correctly
Ensure that if we load the firmware, we have also loaded the correct

Commit f2bd1c5ae2 ("ALSA: hda: Fix page fault in
snd_hda_codec_shutdown()") relocated initialization of several codec
device fields. Due to differences between codec_exec_verb() and
snd_hdac_bus_exec_bus() in how they handle VERB execution - the latter
does not touch PM - assigning ->exec_verb to codec_exec_verb() causes PM
to be engaged before it is configured for the device. Configuration of
PM for the ASoC HDAudio sound card is done with snd_hda_set_power_save()
during skl_hda_audio_probe() whereas the assignment happens early, in
snd_hda_codec_device_init().
Revert to previous behavior to avoid problems caused by too early PM
manipulation.

Some motherboards have multiple HDA codecs connected to the serial bus.
The current code may create multiple mixer controls with the almost
identical identification.
The current code use id.device field from the control element structure
to store the codec address to avoid such clashes for multiple codecs.
Unfortunately, the user space do not handle this correctly. For mixer
controls, only name and index are used for the identifiers.
This patch fixes this problem to compose the index using the codec
address as an offset in case, when the control already exists. It is
really unlikely that one codec will create 10 similar controls.
This patch adds new kernel module parameter 'ctl_dev_id' to allow
select the old behaviour, too. The CONFIG_SND_HDA_CTL_DEV_ID Kconfig
option sets the default value.

This loop accidentally reuses the "i" iterator for both the inside and
the outside loop. The value of MAX_STREAM_BUFFER is 5. I believe that
chip->rmh.stat_len is in the 2-12 range. If the value of .stat_len is
4 or more then it will loop exactly one time, but if it's less then it
is a forever loop.
It looks like it was supposed to combined into one loop where
conditions are checked.

Several functions that take part in codec's initialization and removal
are re-used by ASoC codec drivers implementations. Drivers mimic the
behavior of hda_codec_driver_probe/remove() found in
sound/pci/hda/hda_bind.c with their component->probe/remove() instead.
One of the reasons for that is the expectation of
snd_hda_codec_device_new() to receive a valid pointer to an instance of
struct snd_card. This expectation can be met only once sound card
components probing commences.
As ASoC sound card may be unbound without codec device being actually
removed from the system, unsetting ->preset in
snd_hda_codec_cleanup_for_unbind() interferes with module unload -> load
scenario causing null-ptr-deref. Preset is assigned only once, during
device/driver matching whereas ASoC codec driver's module reloading may
occur several times throughout the lifetime of an audio stack.

The recent code refactoring for HD-audio HDMI codec driver caused a
regression on AMD/ATI HDMI codecs; namely, PulseAudioand pipewire
don't recognize HDMI outputs any longer while the direct output via
ALSA raw access still works.
The problem turned out that, after the code refactoring, the driver
assumes only the dynamic PCM assignment, and when a PCM stream that
still isn't assigned to any pin gets opened, the driver tries to
assign any free converter to the PCM stream. This behavior is OK for
Intel and other codecs, as they have arbitrary connections between
pins and converters. OTOH, on AMD chips that have a 1:1 mapping
between pins and converters, this may end up with blocking the open of
the next PCM stream for the pin that is tied with the formerly taken
converter.
Also, with the code refactoring, more PCM streams are exposed than
necessary as we assume all converters can be used, while this isn't
true for AMD case. This may change the PCM stream assignment and
confuse users as well.
This patch fixes those problems by:
- Introducing a flag spec->static_pcm_mapping, and if it's set, the
driver applies the static mapping between pins and converters at the
probe time
- Limiting the number of PCM streams per pins, too; this avoids the
superfluous PCM streams

When the new style KAE keep-alive implementation is used on compatible
Intel hardware, the clocks are maintained when codec is in D3. The
generic code in hda_cleanup_all_streams() can however interfere with
generation of audio samples in this mode, by setting the stream and
channel ids to zero.
To get full benefit of the keepalive, set the new
no_stream_clean_at_suspend quirk bit on affected Intel hardware. When
this bit is set, stream cleanup is skipped in hda_call_codec_suspend().
Special handling is needed for the case when system goes to suspend. The
stream id programming can be lost in this case. This will also cause
codec->cvt_setups to be out of sync. Handle this by implementing custom
suspend/resume handlers. If keep-alive is active for any converter, set
the quirk flags no_stream_clean_at_suspend and forced_resume. Upon
resume, keepalive programming is restored if needed.

Merge series from Mark Brown <broonie@kernel.org>:
The recently added pcm-test selftest has pointed out that systems with
the tda998x driver end up advertising that they support capture when in
reality as far as I can see the tda998x devices are transmit only. The
DAIs registered through hdmi-codec are bidirectional, meaning that for
I2S systems when combined with a typical bidrectional CPU DAI the
overall capability of the PCM is bidirectional. In most cases the I2S
links will clock OK but no useful audio will be returned which isn't so
bad but we should still not advertise the useless capability, and some
systems may notice problems for example due to pinmux management.
This is happening due to the hdmi-codec helpers not providing any
mechanism for indicating unidirectional audio so add one and use it in
the tda998x driver. It is likely other hdmi-codec users are also
affected but I don't have those systems to hand.

There is no ability to detect if an SCF value was set or not, what the
code does is prevent the use of the 6MHz audio clock represented by
the value 0 in LCTL.SCF. Changing the SCF settings does require the
link to be power-cycled, but in all other cases the link is powered
automatically when exiting reset. In other words, the power-cycle is
an exception to the rule that the HDaudio legacy driver does not need
to program SPA/CPA bits.
In addition, the SCF related changes are only relevant for the first
link.

snd_ctl_rename() takes care of that, so use it instead of directly

Add support for system suspend into the CS35L41 HDA Driver.
Since S4 suspend may power off the system, it is required
that the driver ensure the part is safe to be shutdown before
system suspend, as well as ensuring that the firmware is
unloaded before shutdown. The part must then be restored
on system resume, including re-downloading the firmware.

The current code uses calls from the HDA Codec driver to
determine when to suspend/resume by calling hooks via the
hda_component binding.
However, this means the cs35l41 driver relies on the HDA
Codec driver to tell it when to suspend or resume,
creating an additional external dependency, and potentially
creating race conditions in the future. It is better for
the cs35l41 hda driver to decide for itself when the part
should be suspended or resumed.
This makes supporting system suspend easier.

Redesign the creation of ALSA controls so that the cs_dsp
pwr_lock is not held when calling snd_ctl_add(). Instead of
creating the ALSA control from the cs_dsp control_add callback,
do it after cs_dsp_power_up() has completed. The existing
functions are changed to return void instead of passing errors
back - this duplicates the original behaviour, as cs_dsp does
not abort firmware load if creation of a control fails.
It is safe to walk the control list without taking any mutex
provided that the caller is not trying to load a new firmware
or remove the driver in parallel. There is no other situation
that the list can change. So the caller can trigger creation
of ALSA controls after cs_dsp_power_up() has returned. A cs_dsp
control will have a non-NULL priv pointer if we have created
an ALSA control.
With the previous code the ALSA controls were created from
the cs_dsp control_add callback. But this is called with
pwr_lock held (as it is part of the DSP power-up sequence).
The kernel lock checking will show a mutex inversion between
this and the control creation path:
control_add
pwr_lock held, takes controls_rwsem (in snd_ctl_add)
get/put
controls_rwsem held, takes pwr_lock to call cs_dsp.
This is not completely theoretical. Although the time window
is very small, it is possible for these to run in parallel
and deadlock the old implementation.

The cs_dsp core will return an error if passed a NULL cs_dsp struct so
there is no need for the hda_cs_dsp_write|read_ctl functions to manually
check that. The cs_dsp core will also check the data is within bounds of
the control so the additional bounds check is redundant too. Simplify
things a bit by removing said code.

The HDMI driver skips the notification handling from the graphics
driver when the codec driver is being in the PM operation. This
behavior was introduced by the commit eb399d3c99 ("ALSA: hda - Skip
ELD notification during PM process"). This skip may cause a problem,
as we may miss the ELD update when the connection/disconnection
happens right at the runtime-PM operation of the audio codec.
Although this workaround was valid at that time, it's no longer true;
the fix was required just because the ELD update procedure needed to
wake up the audio codec, which had lead to a runtime-resume during a
runtime-suspend. Meanwhile, the ELD update procedure doesn't need a
codec wake up any longer since the commit 788d441a16 ("ALSA: hda -
Use component ops for i915 HDMI/DP audio jack handling"); i.e. there
is no much reason for skipping the notification.
Let's drop those checks for addressing the missing notification.

As the previous commit implies, a system may have a different SPI bus
number that is embedded in the device string. And, assuming the fixed
bus number is rather fragile; it may be assigned differently depending
on the configuration or on the boot environment. Once when a bus
number change happens, the binding fails, resulting in the silence.
This patch tries to make the matching a bit more relaxed, allowing to
bind with a different bus number (or without it). So the previous
fix, the introduction of ALC245_FIXUP_CS35L41_SPI1_2 fixup became
superfluous, and this is unified to ALC245_FIXUP_CS35L41_SPI_2.

Per discussion on the alsa-devel mailing list [1], the legacy PIN to PCM
device mapping is obsolete nowadays. The maximum number of the simultaneously
usable PCM devices is equal to the HDMI codec converters.
Remove the extra PCM devices (beyond the detected converters) and force
the use of the dynamic PCM device allocation. The legacy code is removed.
I believe that all HDMI codecs have the jack sensing feature. Move the check
to the codec probe function and print a warning, if a codec without this
feature is detected.
