Add the missing adjustment of the month range on alarm reads from the
RTC, correcting an issue coming from commit 9c6dfed92c ("rtc: m41t80:
add alarm functionality"). The range is 1-12 for hardware and 0-11 for
`struct rtc_time', and is already correctly handled on alarm writes to
the RTC.
It was correct up until commit 48e9766726 ("drivers/rtc/rtc-m41t80.c:
remove disabled alarm functionality") too, which removed the previous
implementation of alarm support.

It is expected that pinctrl drivers can extend pin_config_param because
of the gap between PIN_CONFIG_END and PIN_CONFIG_MAX so this conversion
isn't an issue. Most drivers that take advantage of this define the
PIN_CONFIG variables as constants, rather than enumerated values. Do the
same thing here so that Clang no longer warns.

Fix an issue with the 32-bit range error path in `rtc_hctosys' where no
error code is set and consequently the successful preceding call result
from `rtc_read_time' is propagated to `rtc_hctosys_ret'. This in turn
makes any subsequent call to `hctosys_show' incorrectly report in sysfs
that the system time has been set from this RTC while it has not.
Set the error to ERANGE then if we can't express the result due to an
overflow.

When there is no IRQ configured for the RTC, the rtc-cmos code does not
support alarms, all alarm rtc_ops fail with -EIO / -EINVAL.
The rtc-core expects a rtc driver which does not support rtc alarms to
not have alarm ops at all. Otherwise the wakealarm sysfs attr will read
as empty rather then returning an error, making it impossible for
userspace to find out beforehand if alarms are supported.
A system without an IRQ for the RTC before this patch:

When registering one RTC device, it will check to see if there is an
alarm already set in RTC hardware by reading RTC alarm, at this time
we should always read the normal alarm put in always-on region by
checking the rtc->registered flag.

When registering one rtc device, it will check to see if there is an
alarm already set in rtc hardware by issuing __rtc_read_alarm(). So
we should not disable the RTC interrupts and clear the interrupts
status in probe() function.

Fix a problem with commit 311ee9c151 ("rtc: cmos: allow using ACPI for
RTC alarm instead of HPET") defining `use_acpi_alarm' module parameter
even for non-ACPI platforms, which ignore it. Wrap the definition into
#ifdef CONFIG_ACPI and use a static inline wrapper function, hardcoded
to return 0 and consequently optimized away for !ACPI, following the
existing pattern with HPET handling functions.

Fix a commit 311ee9c151 ("rtc: cmos: allow using ACPI for RTC alarm
instead of HPET") `rtc-cmos' regression causing a link error:
drivers/rtc/rtc-cmos.o: In function `cmos_platform_probe':
rtc-cmos.c:(.init.text+0x33c): undefined reference to `hpet_rtc_interrupt'
rtc-cmos.c:(.init.text+0x3f4): undefined reference to `hpet_rtc_interrupt'
with non-ACPI platforms using this driver. The cause is the change of
the condition guarding the use of `hpet_rtc_interrupt'.
Previously it was a call to `is_hpet_enabled'. That function is static
inline and has a hardcoded 0 result for non-ACPI platforms, which imply
!HPET_EMULATE_RTC. Consequently the compiler optimized the whole block
away including the reference to `hpet_rtc_interrupt', which never made
it to the link stage.
Now the guarding condition is a call to `use_hpet_alarm', which is not
static inline and therefore the compiler may not be able to prove that
it actually always returns 0 for non-ACPI platforms. Consequently the
build breaks with an unsatisfied reference, because `hpet_rtc_interrupt'
is nowhere defined at link time.
Fix the problem by marking `use_hpet_alarm' inline. As the `inline'
keyword serves as an optimization hint rather than a requirement the
compiler is still free to choose whether inlining will be beneficial or
not for ACPI platforms.

On m41txx you can enable open-drain OUT pin to check if offset is ok.
Enabling OUT pin with frequency_test_enable attribute, OUT pin will tick
512 times faster than 1s tick base.

The move of atrim, dtrim usr sysfs properties from i2c device
to rtc device require to access them via dev->parent.
This patch also aligns timestamp0.
Stale mentions of irq_task are left in the kerneldoc after its removal.

One of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding
the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along
with memory for some number of elements for that array. For example:

We don't have to define an extra config symbol, IS_REACHABLE does
what we need. And having this config symbol just to save the few
bytes of hwmon support on non-DS3231 chips isn't worth it IMO
(especially as the symbol is set per default).

Add support for "evdet" named interrupt source.
The check if i2c client irq matches evdet irq is needed
for the case that there is only one interrupt named "evdet".
In this case i2c client code handles this like an unnamed
interrupt souce and assigns the value.

We add support for the ISL1219 chip that got an integrated tamper
detection function. This patch implements the feature by adding
an additional timestamp0 file to sysfs device path.
This file contains seconds since epoch, if an event occurred,
or is empty, if none occurred.

Fix a bug that caused the Control_1 register to get zeroed whenever the
RTC time is set. The problem occurred between stopping and starting the
RTC clock, wherein the return value of a successful I2C write function
would get written to the register.
Also update variables of the start and stop functions to be more
consistent with the rest of the driver.

getnstimeofday64() is just a wrapper around the ktime accessor, so
we should use that directly.
I considered using ktime_get_boottime_ts64() (to avoid leap second
problems) or ktime_get_real_seconds() (to simplify the calculation,
but in the end concluded that the existing interface is probably
the most appropriate in this case.

When the RTC block looses power it needs a reset sequence to make it
usable again. Otherwise, writes to the time register have no effect.
This reset sequence combines information from the mvebu_rtc driver in
the Marvell provided U-Boot, and the SolidRun provided U-Boot repo.
Tested on the Armada 388 based SolidRun Clearfog Base.

As pointed out in the added comment resetting the rtc also stops the
included watchdog. This is bad if the bootloader started the watchdog to
secure the boot process. So don't reset if the watchdog is running.

In order to read correctly from asynchronously updated RTC registers,
it's necessary to read repeatedly until their values do not change from
read to read. It's also necessary to wait for three RTC clock ticks for
certain operations. There are no timeouts in this code and these
operations could possibly loop forever.
To avoid kernel hangs, put in timeouts.
The iMX7d can be configured to stop the SRTC on a tamper event, which
will lockup the kernel inside this driver as described above.
These hangs can happen when running under qemu, which doesn't emulate
the SNVS RTC, though currently the driver will refuse to load on qemu
due to a timeout in the driver probe method.
It could also happen if the SRTC block where somehow placed into reset
or the slow speed clock that drives the SRTC counter (but not the CPU)
were to stop.
The symptoms on a two core iMX7d are a work queue hang on
rtc_timer_do_work(), which eventually blocks a systemd fsnotify
operation that triggers a work queue flush, causing systemd to hang and
thus causing all services that should be started by systemd, like a
console getty, to fail to start or stop.
Also optimize the wait code to wait less. It only needs to wait for the
clock to advance three ticks, not to see it change three times.

At over 4000 #includes, <linux/platform_device.h> is the 9th most
#included header file in the Linux kernel. It does not need
<linux/mod_devicetable.h>, so drop that header and explicitly add
<linux/mod_devicetable.h> to source files that need it.

After this patch, there are 225 files that use <linux/mod_devicetable.h>,
for a reduction of around 3900 times that <linux/mod_devicetable.h>

When using RTC_ALM_SET or RTC_WKALM_SET with rtc_wkalrm.enabled not set,
rtc_timer_enqueue() is not called and rtc_set_alarm() may succeed but the
subsequent RTC_AIE_ON ioctl will fail. RTC_ALM_READ would also fail in that
case.
Ensure rtc_set_alarm() fails when alarms are not supported to avoid letting
programs think the alarms are working for a particular RTC when they are
not.

We should use the new method to check if RTC was powered down, which
is more solid. Since we have introduced power control and power status
registers, and we just check if the power status is the default value
(0x96), if yes that means the RTC has been powered down. Meanwhile We
can set the power control register to be one valid value to change
the power status to indicate RTC device is valid now.

clk-gate core will take bit_idx through clk_register_gate
and then do clk_gate_ops by using BIT(bit_idx), but rtc-sun6i
is passing bit_idx as BIT(bit_idx) it becomes BIT(BIT(bit_idx)
which is wrong and eventually external gate clock is not enabling.
This patch fixed by passing bit index and the original change
introduced from below commit.

This patch adds support for stm32mp1 RTC.
Some common registers with previous RTC version have a different offset.
It is the case for Control Register (CR) and ALaRMA Register (ALRMAR).
There are also new registers regarding event flags: now, Alarm event flag
is in Status Register (SR) and write 1 in Status Clear Register (SCR) is
required to clear the event.

While the year is encoded on 32 bits in SYS_TOYWRITE1i/SYS_TOYREAD1. The
Loongson 1c datasheet states that the range is from 0 to 99.
The current code exceeds this range and seems to be working, I deduce that
the leap year algorithm will fail in 2100.
Anyway, alarm registers only encode the year on 14 bits so with alarm
support, the range will always be limited to 0 to 16383.

The error handling in ls1x_rtc_probe used to release resources but since
it is using devm functions, it only returns a value. Make the code clearer
by returning directly instead of using goto.

Let the core handle offsetting and windowing the RTC range.
The RTC has a 40-bit counter counting at 1024 Hz. So its maximum value is
2^(40-10) - 1. Also, let the core handle the offset instead of coding it in
the callbacks. Keep the default epoch at the beginning of 2009 (this will
fail in 2043).

RTC driver should not be aware of the PWR registers offset and bits
position. Furthermore, we can imagine that DBP relative register and bit
mask could change depending on the SoC.
So this patch introduces 2 parameters, dbp_reg and dbp_mask, allowing to
get PWR_CR and PWR_CR_DBP from device tree. And it prepares next RTC
version, backup domain write protection is disabled only if needed.

The tps6586x use a 64-bit 'epoch_start' value, but then computes that
value using an 'mktime()', which has a smaller range and overflows
in 2106 at the latest. As both the hardware and the subsystem interface
support wider than 32-bit ranges for rtc times here, let's change all
the operations on 'seconds' to time64_t.

The loongson1 platform is 32-bit, so storing a time value in 32 bits
suffers from limited range. In this case it is likely to be correct
until 2106, but it's better to avoid the limitation and just use
the time64_t based mktime64() and rtc_time64_to_tm() interfaces.
The hardware uses a 32-bit year number, and time64_t can cover that
entire range.

This driver uses mktime() and rtc_time_to_tm() to convert between time
values. This works fine on 64-bit kernels over the whole supported
range, and the vr41xx chip is a 64-bit MIPS implementation, but it is
inconsistent because it doesn't do the same thing on 32-bit kernels that
overflow in 2106 or 2038.
Changing it to use mktime64/rtc_time64_to_tm() should have no visible
impact on vr41xx but gets us closer to removing the 32-bit interfaces.

The OPAL RTC driver does not sleep in case it gets OPAL_BUSY or
OPAL_BUSY_EVENT from firmware, which causes large scheduling
latencies, up to 50 seconds have been observed here when RTC stops
responding (BMC reboot can do it).
Fix this by converting it to the standard form OPAL_BUSY loop that
sleeps.

2. with HPET RTC emulation enabled
3. no earlier than 2015
Note that, during the test, it is found that this patch
1. works in 4.15-rc kernel
2. hangs the platform after suspend-to-idle for 2 or 3 times, in 4.15.0
3. works again in 4.16-rc3 kernel.
4. works in the latest 4.15.12 stable kernel.
Thus although this patch breaks 4.15.0 kernel for some unknown reason,
still, it is safe for both upstream and backport.

Previously, the RTC alarm is acknowledged either by the cmos rtc irq
handler, or by the hpet rtc irq handler.
When using ACPI RTC Fixed event as the RTC alarm, the RTC alarm is
acknowledged by the ACPI RTC event handler, as addressed in the previous
patch.
But, when resume from suspend-to-ram (ACPI S3), the ACPI SCI is cleared
right after resume, thus the ACPI RTC event handler is not invoked at all,
results in the RTC Alarm unacknowledged.
Handle this by comparing the current time and the RTC Alarm time in the
rtc_cmos driver .resume() callback
1. Assume the wakeup event has already been fired if the RTC Alarm time
is earlier than/equal to the current time, and ACK the RTC Alarm.
2. Assume the wakeup event has not been fired if the RTC Alarm time
is later than current time, and re-arm it if needed.

It's found that the HPET timer prevents the platform from entering
Low Power S0 on some new Intel platforms.
This means that
1. users can still use RTC wake Alarm for suspend-to-idle, but the system
never enters Low Power S0, which is a waste of power.
or
2. if users want to put the system into Low Power S0, they can not use
RTC as the wakeup source.
To fix this, we need to stop using the HPET timer for wake alarm.
But disabling CONFIG_HPET_EMULATE_RTC is not an option because HPET
emulates PIT at the same time, and this is needed on some of these
platforms.
Thus, introduce a new mode (use_acpi_alarm) to the rtc_cmos driver,
so that, even with CONFIG_HPET_EMULATE_RTC enabled, it's still possible to
use ACPI SCI for RTC Alarm, including UIE/AIE/wkalrm, instead of HPET.
Only necessary changes are made for the new "use_acpi_alarm" mode, including
1. drop all the calls to HPET emulation code, including the HPET irq
handler for rtc interrupt.
2. enabling/disabling ACPI RTC Fixed event upon RTC UIE/AIE request.
3. acknowledge the RTC Alarm in ACPI RTC Fixed event handler.
There is no functional change made in this patch if the new mode is not
enabled.
Note: this "use_acpi_alarm" mode is made based on the assumption that
ACPI RTC Fixed event is reliable both at runtime and during system wakeup.
And this has been verified on a couple of platforms I have, including
a MS Surface Pro 4 (SKL), a Lenovo Yoga 900 (SKL), and a HP 9360 (KBL).

the SNVS RTC driver with a function snvs_rtc_enable().
snvs_rtc_enable() can return an error on the enable path however this

This patch fixes by parsing the result of rtc_write_sync_lp() and
propagating both in the probe and elsewhere. If the RTC doesn't start we
don't proceed loading the driver and don't get into this loop mess later
on.

The AB8540 was an evolved version of the AB8500, but it was never
mass produced or put into products, only reference designs exist.
The upstream support was never completed and it is unlikely that
this will happen so drop the support for now to simplify
maintenance of the AB8500.

The 88pm860x supports time up to 2106 (it is a 32 bit counter). Also, the
year will never be before 1970 as the RTC core forbids that.

The LPC RTC supports dates way beyond 2038, don't limit it artificially as
the kernel handles dates after 2038 properly.

Dates after 2038 actually fit on 32 bits. The counter will overflow in
2106. Also, it is bad practice to reset the RTC to a default value.

On 32bit platforms, time_t is still a signed 32bit long. If it is
overflowed, userspace and the kernel cant agree on the current system time.
This causes multiple issues, in particular with systemd:

A good workaround is to simply avoid using hctosys which is something I
greatly encourage as the time is better set by userspace.
However, many distribution enable it and use systemd which is rendering the
system unusable in case the RTC holds a date after 2038 (and more so after
2106). Many drivers have workaround for this case and they should be
eliminated so there is only one place left to fix when userspace is able to
cope with dates after the 31bit overflow.

Some functions definitions have either the initial open brace and/or
the closing brace outside of column 1.
Move those braces to column 1.
This allows various function analyzers like gnu complexity to work
properly for these modified functions.

In preparation to enabling -Wvla, remove VLAs and replace them
with fixed-length arrays instead.
>From a security viewpoint, the use of Variable Length Arrays can be
a vector for stack overflow attacks. Also, in general, as the code
evolves it is easy to lose track of how big a VLA can get. Thus, we
can end up having segfaults that are hard to debug.
