c041b5ad86 x86, boot: Create a separate string.h file to provide standard string functions
Create a separate arch/x86/boot/string.h file to provide declaration of
some of the common string functions.

By default memcpy, memset and memcmp functions will default to gcc
builtin functions. If code wants to use an optimized version of any
of these functions, they need to #undef the respective macro and link
against a local file providing definition of undefed function.

For example, arch/x86/boot/* code links against copy.S to get memcpy()
and memcmp() definitions. arch/86/boot/compressed/* links against
compressed/string.c.

There are quite a few places in arch/x86/ where these functions are
used. Idea is to try to consilidate their declaration and possibly
definitions so that it can be reused.

I am planning to reuse boot/string.h in arch/x86/purgatory/ and use
gcc builtin functions for memcpy, memset and memcmp.

2495fbf7ef x86, setup: remove obsolete pre-Kconfig CONFIG_VIDEO_ variables
There were a set of pre-Kconfig configuration variables defined in the
video code. There is absolutely no evidence that they have been
tweaked by anybody in modern history, so just get rid of them and hope
nobody notices. If someone does complain, these should be made real
Kconfig variables.

4d31a2b74c fbdev: ignore VESA modes if framebuffer does not support them
Currently, it is possible to set a graphics VESA mode at boot time via the
vga= parameter even when no framebuffer driver supporting this is
configured. This could lead to the system booting with a black screen,
without a usable console.

Fix this problem by only allowing to set graphics modes at boot time if a
supporting framebuffer driver is configured.

1722770f13 x86-boot: don't request VBE2 information
The new x86 setup code (4fd06960f1) broke booting on an old P3/500MHz
with an onboard Voodoo3 of mine. After debugging it, it turned out
to be caused by the fact that the vesa probing now asks for VBE2 data.

Disassembing the video BIOS shows that it overflows the vesa_general_info
structure when VBE2 data is requested because the source addresses for the
information strings which get strcpy'ed to the buffer lie outside the 32K
BIOS code (and hence contain long sequences of 0xff's).

(The full BIOS can be found at http://peter.korsgaard.com/vgabios.bin

The old setup code didn't ask for VBE2 info, and the new code doesn't
actually do anything with the extra information, so the fix is to simply
not request it. Other BIOS'es might have the same problem.

Display VESA graphics modes, with their mode IDs, in the vga=ask

have an easy way to display them.

e6e1ace990 x86 setup: sizeof() is unsigned, unbreak comparisons
We use signed values for limit checking since the values can go
negative under certain circumstances. However, sizeof() is unsigned
and forces the comparison to be unsigned, so move the comparison into
the heap_free() macros so we can ensure it is a signed comparison.
