asm-generic updates for v6.7
The ia64 architecture gets its well-earned retirement as planned, now that there is one last (mostly) working release that will be maintained as an LTS kernel. The architecture specific system call tables are updated for the added map_shadow_stack() syscall and to remove references to the long-gone sys_lookup_dcookie() syscall. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEiK/NIGsWEZVxh/FrYKtH/8kJUicFAmVC40IACgkQYKtH/8kJ Uidhmw/9EX+aWSXGoObJ3fngaNSMw+PmrEuP8qEKBHxfKHcCdX3hc451Oh4GlhaQ tru91pPwgNvN2/rfoKusxT+V4PemGIzfNni/04rp+P0kvmdw5otQ2yNhsQNsfVmq XGWvkxF4P2GO6bkjjfR/1dDq7GtlyXtwwPDKeLbYb6TnJOZjtx+EAN27kkfSn1Ms R4Sa3zJ+DfHUmHL5S9g+7UD/CZ5GfKNmIskI4Mz5GsfoUz/0iiU+Bge/9sdcdSJQ kmbLy5YnVzfooLZ3TQmBFsO3iAMWb0s/mDdtyhqhTVmTUshLolkPYyKnPFvdupyv shXcpEST2XJNeaDRnL2K4zSCdxdbnCZHDpjfl9wfioBg7I8NfhXKpf1jYZHH1de4 LXq8ndEFEOVQw/zSpYWfQq1sux8Jiqr+UK/ukbVeFWiGGIUs91gEWtPAf8T0AZo9 ujkJvaWGl98O1g5wmBu0/dAR6QcFJMDfVwbmlIFpU8O+MEaz6X8mM+O5/T0IyTcD eMbAUjj4uYcU7ihKzHEv/0SS9Of38kzff67CLN5k8wOP/9NlaGZ78o1bVle9b52A BdhrsAefFiWHp1jT6Y9Rg4HOO/TguQ9e6EWSKOYFulsiLH9LEFaB9RwZLeLytV0W vlAgY9rUW77g1OJcb7DoNv33nRFuxsKqsnz3DEIXtgozo9CzbYI= =H1vH -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'asm-generic-6.7' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic Pull ia64 removal and asm-generic updates from Arnd Bergmann: - The ia64 architecture gets its well-earned retirement as planned, now that there is one last (mostly) working release that will be maintained as an LTS kernel. - The architecture specific system call tables are updated for the added map_shadow_stack() syscall and to remove references to the long-gone sys_lookup_dcookie() syscall. * tag 'asm-generic-6.7' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic: hexagon: Remove unusable symbols from the ptrace.h uapi asm-generic: Fix spelling of architecture arch: Reserve map_shadow_stack() syscall number for all architectures syscalls: Cleanup references to sys_lookup_dcookie() Documentation: Drop or replace remaining mentions of IA64 lib/raid6: Drop IA64 support Documentation: Drop IA64 from feature descriptions kernel: Drop IA64 support from sig_fault handlers arch: Remove Itanium (IA-64) architecture |

syscalls: Cleanup references to sys_lookup_dcookie()
commit 'be65de6b03aa ("fs: Remove dcookies support")' removed the syscall definition for lookup_dcookie. However, syscall tables still point to the old sys_lookup_dcookie() definition. Update syscall tables of all architectures to directly point to sys_ni_syscall() instead. futex: Add sys_futex_requeue()
Finish off the 'simple' futex2 syscall group by adding sys_futex_requeue(). Unlike sys_futex_{wait,wake}() its arguments are too numerous to fit into a regular syscall. As such, use struct futex_waitv to pass the 'source' and 'destination' futexes to the syscall. This syscall implements what was previously known as FUTEX_CMP_REQUEUE and uses {val, uaddr, flags} for source and {uaddr, flags} for destination. This design explicitly allows requeueing between different types of futex by having a different flags word per uaddr. futex: Add sys_futex_wait()
To complement sys_futex_waitv()/wake(), add sys_futex_wait(). This syscall implements what was previously known as FUTEX_WAIT_BITSET except it uses 'unsigned long' for the value and bitmask arguments, takes timespec and clockid_t arguments for the absolute timeout and uses FUTEX2 flags. The 'unsigned long' allows FUTEX2_SIZE_U64 on 64bit platforms. sh: Replace all non-returning strlcpy with strscpy
strlcpy() reads the entire source buffer first. This read may exceed the destination size limit. This is both inefficient and can lead to linear read overflows if a source string is not NUL-terminated [1]. In an effort to remove strlcpy() completely [2], replace strlcpy() here with strscpy(). No return values were used, so direct replacement is safe. sh: Avoid using IRQ0 on SH3 and SH4
IRQ0 is no longer returned by platform_get_irq() and its ilk -- they now
return -EINVAL instead. However, the kernel code supporting SH3/4-based
SoCs still maps the IRQ #s starting at 0 -- modify that code to start the
IRQ #s from 16 instead.
The patch should mostly affect the AP-SH4A-3A/AP-SH4AD-0A boards as they

sh: sq: Fix incorrect element size for allocating bitmap buffer
The Store Queue code allocates a bitmap buffer with the size of
multiple of sizeof(long) in sq_api_init(). While the buffer size
is calculated correctly, the code uses the wrong element size to
allocate the buffer which results in the allocated bitmap buffer
being too small.
Fix this by allocating the buffer with kcalloc() with element size
sizeof(long) instead of kzalloc() whose elements size defaults to
sizeof(char).

sh: nmi_debug: fix return value of __setup handler
__setup() handlers should return 1 to obsolete_checksetup() in
init/main.c to indicate that the boot option has been handled.
A return of 0 causes the boot option/value to be listed as an Unknown
kernel parameter and added to init's (limited) argument or environment
strings. Also, error return codes don't mean anything to
obsolete_checksetup() -- only non-zero (usually 1) or zero.
So return 1 from nmi_debug_setup().

sched/idle: Mark arch_cpu_idle_dead() __noreturn
Before commit 076cbf5d2163 ("x86/xen: don't let xen_pv_play_dead() return"), in Xen, when a previously offlined CPU was brought back online, it unexpectedly resumed execution where it left off in the middle of the idle loop. There were some hacks to make that work, but the behavior was surprising as do_idle() doesn't expect an offlined CPU to return from the dead (in arch_cpu_idle_dead()). Now that Xen has been fixed, and the arch-specific implementations of arch_cpu_idle_dead() also don't return, give it a __noreturn attribute. This will cause the compiler to complain if an arch-specific implementation might return. It also improves code generation for both caller and callee. Also fixes the following warning: vmlinux.o: warning: objtool: do_idle+0x25f: unreachable instruction Reported-by: Paul E. McKenney <paulmck@kernel.org> Tested-by: Paul E. sh: mm: set VM_IOREMAP flag to the vmalloc area
Currently, for vmalloc areas with flag VM_IOREMAP set, except of the specific alignment clamping in __get_vm_area_node(), they will be 1) Shown as ioremap in /proc/vmallocinfo; 2) Ignored by /proc/kcore reading via vread() So for the ioremap in __sq_remap() of sh, we should set VM_IOREMAP in flag to make it handled correctly as above. arch/idle: Change arch_cpu_idle() behavior: always exit with IRQs disabled
Current arch_cpu_idle() is called with IRQs disabled, but will return with IRQs enabled. However, the very first thing the generic code does after calling arch_cpu_idle() is raw_local_irq_disable(). This means that architectures that can idle with IRQs disabled end up doing a pointless 'enable-disable' dance. Therefore, push this IRQ disabling into the idle function, meaning that those architectures can avoid the pointless IRQ state flipping. Pull kernel hardening updates from Kees Cook:
"Most of the collected changes here are fixes across the tree for
various hardening features (details noted below).
The most notable new feature here is the addition of the memcpy()
overflow warning (under CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE), which is the next step
on the path to killing the common class of "trivially detectable"
buffer overflow conditions (i.e. on arrays with sizes known at compile
time) that have resulted in many exploitable vulnerabilities over the
years (e.g. BleedingTooth).
This feature is expected to still have some undiscovered false
positives. It's been in -next for a full development cycle and all the
reported false positives have been fixed in their respective trees.
All the known-bad code patterns we could find with Coccinelle are also
either fixed in their respective trees or in flight.

kbuild: use obj-y instead extra-y for objects placed at the head
The objects placed at the head of vmlinux need special treatments: - arch/$(SRCARCH)/Makefile adds them to head-y in order to place them before other archives in the linker command line. - arch/$(SRCARCH)/kernel/Makefile adds them to extra-y instead of obj-y to avoid them going into built-in.a. This commit gets rid of the latter. Create vmlinux.a to collect all the objects that are unconditionally linked to vmlinux. The objects listed in head-y are moved to the head of vmlinux.a by using 'ar m'. With this, arch/$(SRCARCH)/kernel/Makefile can consistently use obj-y for builtin objects. There is no *.o that is directly linked to vmlinux. Drop unneeded code in scripts/clang-tools/gen_compile_commands.py. $(AR) mPi needs 'T' to workaround the llvm-ar bug. The fix was suggested by Nathan Chancellor [1]. Enable softirq stacks based on SOFTIRQ_ON_OWN_STACK which depends on HAVE_SOFTIRQ_ON_OWN_STACK and its default value is set to !PREEMPT_RT. There are three independent sets of changes: - Sai Prakash Ranjan adds tracing support to the asm-generic version of the MMIO accessors, which is intended to help understand problems with device drivers and has been part of Qualcomm's vendor kernels for many years. - A patch from Sebastian Siewior to rework the handling of IRQ stacks in softirqs across architectures, which is needed for enabling PREEMPT_RT. - The last patch to remove the CONFIG_VIRT_TO_BUS option and some of the code behind that, after the last users of this old interface made it in through the netdev, scsi, media and staging trees. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEo6/YBQwIrVS28WGKmmx57+YAGNkFAmLqPPEACgkQmmx57+YA GNlUbQ/+NpIsiA0JUrCGtySt8KrLHdA2dH9lJOR5/iuxfphscPFfWtpcPvcXQWmt a8u7wyI8SHW1ku4U0Y5sO0dBSldDnoIqJ5t4X5d7YNU9yVtEtucqQhZf+GkrPlVD 1HkRu05B7y0k2BMn7BLhSvkpafs3f1lNGXjs8oFBdOF1/zwp/GjcrfCK7KFzqjwU dYrX0SOFlKFd4BZC75VfK+XcKg4LtwIOmJraRRl7alz2Q5Oop2hgjgZxXDPf//vn SPOhXJN/97i1FUpY2TkfHVH1NxbPfjCV4pUnjmLG0Y4NSy9UQ/ZcXHcywIdeuhfa 0LySOIsAqBeccpYYYdg2ubiMDZOXkBfANu/sB9o/EhoHfB4svrbPRDhBIQZMFXJr MJYu+IYce2rvydA/nydo4q++pxR8v1ES1ZIo8bDux+q1CI/zbpQV+f98kPVRA0M7 ajc+5GTIqNIsvHzzadq7eYxcj5Bi8Li2JA9sVkAQ+6iq1TVyeYayMc9eYwONlmqw MD+PFYc651pKtXZCfkLXPIKSwS0uPqBndAibuVhpZ0hxWaCBBdKvY9mrWcPxt0kA tMR8lrosbbrV2K48BFdWTOHvCs2FhHQxPGVPZ/iWuxTA0hHZ9tUlaEkSX+VM57IU KCYQLdWzT8J9vrgqSbgYKlb6pSPz6FIjTfut6NZMmshIbavHV/Q= =aTR0 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'asm-generic-6.0' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic Pull asm-generic updates from Arnd Bergmann: "There are three independent sets of changes: - Sai Prakash Ranjan adds tracing support to the asm-generic version of the MMIO accessors, which is intended to help understand problems with device drivers and has been part of Qualcomm's vendor kernels for many years - A patch from Sebastian Siewior to rework the handling of IRQ stacks in softirqs across architectures, which is needed for enabling PREEMPT_RT - The last patch to remove the CONFIG_VIRT_TO_BUS option and some of the code behind that, after the last users of this old interface made it in through the netdev, scsi, media and staging trees" * tag 'asm-generic-6.0' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic: uapi: asm-generic: fcntl: Fix typo 'the the' in comment arch/*/: remove CONFIG_VIRT_TO_BUS soc: qcom: geni: Disable MMIO tracing for GENI SE serial: qcom_geni_serial: Disable MMIO tracing for geni serial asm-generic/io: Add logging support for MMIO accessors KVM: arm64: Add a flag to disable MMIO trace for nVHE KVM lib: Add register read/write tracing support drm/meson: Fix overflow implicit truncation warnings irqchip/tegra: Fix overflow implicit truncation warnings coresight: etm4x: Use asm-generic IO memory barriers arm64: io: Use asm-generic high level MMIO accessors arch/*: Disable softirq stacks on PREEMPT_RT. |

genirq: Return a const cpumask from irq_data_get_affinity_mask
Now that the irq_data_update_affinity helper exists, enforce its use by returning a a const cpumask from irq_data_get_affinity_mask. Since the previous commit already updated places that needed to call irq_data_update_affinity, this commit updates the remaining code that either did not modify the cpumask or immediately passed the modified mask to irq_set_affinity. arch/*: Disable softirq stacks on PREEMPT_RT.
PREEMPT_RT preempts softirqs and the current implementation avoids do_softirq_own_stack() and only uses __do_softirq(). Disable the unused softirqs stacks on PREEMPT_RT to save some memory and ensure that do_softirq_own_stack() is not used bwcause it is not expected. sh: Use do_kernel_power_off()
Kernel now supports chained power-off handlers. Use do_kernel_power_off() that invokes chained power-off handlers. It also invokes legacy pm_power_off() for now, which will be removed once all drivers will be converted to the new sys-off API. fork: Generalize PF_IO_WORKER handling
Add fn and fn_arg members into struct kernel_clone_args and test for them in copy_thread (instead of testing for PF_KTHREAD | PF_IO_WORKER). This allows any task that wants to be a user space task that only runs in kernel mode to use this functionality. The code on x86 is an exception and still retains a PF_KTHREAD test because x86 unlikely everything else handles kthreads slightly differently than user space tasks that start with a function. The functions that created tasks that start with a function have been updated to set ".fn" and ".fn_arg" instead of ".stack" and ".stack_size". These functions are fork_idle(), create_io_thread(), kernel_thread(), and user_mode_thread(). Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20220506141512.516114-4-ebiederm@xmission.com Signed-off-by: "Eric W. fork: Pass struct kernel_clone_args into copy_thread
With io_uring we have started supporting tasks that are for most purposes user space tasks that exclusively run code in kernel mode. The kernel task that exec's init and tasks that exec user mode helpers are also user mode tasks that just run kernel code until they call kernel execve. Pass kernel_clone_args into copy_thread so these oddball tasks can be supported more cleanly and easily. v2: Fix spelling of kenrel_clone_args on h8300 Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20220506141512.516114-2-ebiederm@xmission.com Signed-off-by: "Eric W. vmcore: convert copy_oldmem_page() to take an iov_iter
Patch series "Convert vmcore to use an iov_iter", v5. For some reason several people have been sending bad patches to fix compiler warnings in vmcore recently. Here's how it should be done. Compile-tested only on x86. As noted in the first patch, s390 should take this conversion a bit further, but I'm not inclined to do that work myself. This patch (of 3): Instead of passing in a 'buf' and 'userbuf' argument, pass in an iov_iter. s390 needs more work to pass the iov_iter down further, or refactor, but I'd be more comfortable if someone who can test on s390 did that work. It's more convenient to convert the whole of read_from_oldmem() to take an iov_iter at the same time, so rename it to read_from_oldmem_iter() and add a temporary read_from_oldmem() wrapper that creates an iov_iter.
