Using register asm statements has been proven to be very error prone,
especially when using code instrumentation where gcc may add function

Therefore, get rid of register asm statements in watchdog code, and make

For bus-based driver, device removal is implemented as:
1 device_remove()->
2 bus->remove()->
3 driver->remove()
Driver core needs no inform from callee(bus driver) about the
result of remove callback. In that case, commit fc7a6209d5
("bus: Make remove callback return void") forces bus_type::remove
be void-returned.
Now we have the situation that both 1 & 2 of calling chain are
void-returned, so it does not make much sense for 3(driver->remove)
to return non-void to its caller.
So the basic idea behind this change is making remove() callback of
any bus-based driver to be void-returned.
This change, for itself, is for device drivers based on acpi-bus.

Daniel reported that the commit 1ae3e78c08 ("watchdog: iTCO_wdt: No
need to stop the timer in probe") makes QEMU implementation of the iTCO
watchdog not to trigger reboot anymore when NO_REBOOT flag is initially
cleared using this option (in QEMU command line):
-global ICH9-LPC.noreboot=false
The problem with the commit is that it left the unconditional setting of
NO_REBOOT that is not cleared anymore when the kernel keeps pinging the
watchdog (as opposed to the previous code that called iTCO_wdt_stop()
that cleared it).
Fix this so that we only set NO_REBOOT if the watchdog was not initially
running.

The WDOG clocks are sourced from lpo_clk, and lpo_clk is the fixed
32KHz. TOVAL contains the 16-bit value used to set the timeout period of
the watchdog. When the timeout period exceeds 2 seconds, the value
written to the TOVAL register is larger than 16-bit can represent.
Enabling watchdog prescaler can solve this problem.
Two points need to be aware of:
1. watchdog prescaler enables a fixed 256 pre-scaling of watchdog
counter reference clock
2. reconfiguration takes about 55ms on imx93

Current driver may meet reconfigure failure caused by below reasons:
1. The wdog on iMX7ULP has different behavior after RCS valid. It needs
to wait more than 2.5 wdog clock for clock sync before next
reconfiguration, while imx8ulp wdog does not need such delay.
2. After unlock, there is 128 bus clock window opened for reconfiguration,
but on iMX8ULP, the HW can't guarantee the latency. So it is possible
the window is closed before the writing arrives to wdog.
3. If the PRES is enabled, the RCS valid time becomes x256 to the time
of PRES disabled. It is about 1715ms on iMX8ULP. So We have to increase
the RCS timeout and can't wait it in IRQ disabled.
The patch updates the driver to handle failures
1. Using different wait for unlock and RCS. Unlock valid time is very short
and only related to bus clock. It must be in IRQ disabled to avoid
being interrupted in 128 clock window. But for RCS time, it is longer
and ok for IRQ enabled.
2. Add retry for any reconfigure failure with default 5 times.
3. Add "fsl,imx8ulp-wdt" compatile string for iMX8ULP and afterwards
platform which don't need more 2.5 wdog clock after RCS valid.
For imx7ulp, add post delay of 2.5 clock after RCS valid.

When reconfiguring the WDOG Timer of i.MX7ULP, there is a certain
probability causes it to reset. The reason is that the CMD32EN of the
WDOG Timer of i.MX7ULP is disabled in bootloader. The unlock sequence
are two 16-bit writes to the CNT register within 16 bus clocks. Adding
mb() is to guarantee that two 16-bit writes are finished within 16 bus
clocks. Memory barriers cannot be added between these two 16-bit writes
so that writel_relaxed is used.

Implement ftwdt010_wdt_restart(). It enables watchdog with timeout = 0

add a new function ftwdt010_enable() and move common code there.

If the output driving type is push-pull mode, the output
polarity should be selected in advance. Otherwise, an unexpected
value will be output at the moment of changing to push-pull mode.
Thus, output polarity, WDT18[31], must be configured before
changing driving type, WDT18[30].

The wdat_wdt driver is misusing the min_hw_heartbeat_ms field. This
field should only be used when the hardware watchdog device should not
be pinged more frequently than a specific period. The ACPI WDAT
"Minimum Count" field, on the other hand, specifies the minimum
timeout value that can be set. This corresponds to the min_timeout
field in Linux's watchdog infrastructure.
Setting min_hw_heartbeat_ms instead can cause pings to the hardware
to be delayed when there is no reason for that, eventually leading to
unexpected firing of the watchdog timer (and thus unexpected reboot).
Since commit 6d72c7ac9f ("watchdog: wdat_wdt: Using the existing
function to check parameter timeout"), min_timeout is being set too,
but to the arbitrary value of 1 second, which doesn't make sense and
allows setting timeout values lower that the ACPI WDAT "Minimum
Count" field.
I'm also changing max_hw_heartbeat_ms to max_timeout for symmetry,
although the use of this one isn't fundamentally wrong, but there is
also no reason to enable the software-driven ping mechanism for the
wdat_wdt driver.

The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored.
(Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the
error is ignored.)
So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This
way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to
the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly.
There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to
return 0 before.

The bootloader might already enable the watchdog to catch hangs
during the boot process. In that case the kernel needs to ping
the watchdog temporarily until userspace is fully started.
Add a check for this in the probe() function and set the WDOG_HW_RUNNING
flag to make the watchdog core handle this automatically.

The PM8916 PMIC provides "power-off reason" (POFF_REASON) registers
to allow detecting why the board was powered off or rebooted. This
can be used to expose if a reset happened due to a watchdog timeout.
The watchdog API also provides status bits for overtemperature and
undervoltage which happen to be reported in the same PMIC register.
Make this information available as part of the watchdog device
so userspace can decide to handle the situation accordingly.

PMIC_WD_RESET_PET is a write-only register that is used to ping
the watchdog. It does not make sense to use read-modify-write
for it: a register read will never return anything but zero.
(And actually even if it did we would still want to write again
to ensure the watchdog is pinged.)
Reduce the overhead for the watchdog ping slightly by using
regmap_write() directly instead.

Use the new NOIRQ_SYSTEM_SLEEP_PM_OPS() and pm_sleep_ptr() macros to
handle the .suspend/.resume callbacks.
These macros allow the suspend and resume functions to be automatically
dropped by the compiler when CONFIG_SUSPEND is disabled, without having
to use #ifdef guards. Not using #ifdef guards means that the code is
always compiled independently of any Kconfig option, and thanks to that
bugs and regressions are easier to catch.

PAPR v2.12 defines a new hypercall, H_WATCHDOG. The hypercall permits
guest control of one or more virtual watchdog timers. The timers have
millisecond granularity. The guest is terminated when a timer
expires.
This patch adds a watchdog driver for these timers, "pseries-wdt".
pseries_wdt_probe() currently assumes the existence of only one
platform device and always assigns it watchdogNumber 1. If we ever
expose more than one timer to userspace we will need to devise a way
to assign a distinct watchdogNumber to each platform device at device
registration time.

If max_hw_heartbeat_ms is provided, the configured maximum timeout is not
limited by it. The limit check in this driver therefore doesn't make much
sense. Similar, the watchdog core ensures that minimum timeout limits are
met if min_hw_heartbeat_ms is set. Using watchdog_timeout_invalid() makes
more sense because it takes this into account.

The mach/hardware.h is included in lots of places, and it provides
three different things on pxa:
- the cpu_is_pxa* macros
- an indirect inclusion of mach/addr-map.h
- the __REG() and io_pv2() helper macros
Split it up into separate <linux/soc/pxa/cpu.h> and mach/pxa-regs.h
headers, then change all the files that use mach/hardware.h to
include the exact set of those three headers that they actually
need, allowing for further more targeted cleanup.
linux/soc/pxa/cpu.h can remain permanently exported and is now in
a global location along with similar headers. pxa-regs.h and
addr-map.h are only used in a very small number of drivers now
and can be moved to arch/arm/mach-pxa/ directly when those drivers
are to pass the necessary data as resources.

The driver currently uses a CPU family match of 17h to determine
EFCH_PM_DECODEEN_WDT_TMREN register support. This family check will not
support future AMD CPUs and instead will require driver updates to add
support.
Remove the family 17h family check and add a check for SMBus PCI
revision ID 0x51 or greater. The MMIO access method has been available
since at least SMBus controllers using PCI revision 0x51. This revision
check will support family 17h and future AMD processors including EFCH
functionality without requiring driver changes.

The i.MX watchdog cannot be disabled by software once it has been
enabled. This means that it can't be stopped before suspend.
For systems that enter low power mode this is fine, as the watchdog will
be automatically stopped by hardware in low power mode. Not all i.MX
platforms support low power mode in the mainline kernel. For example the
i.MX7D does not enter low power mode and so will be rebooted 2 minutes
after entering sleep states.
This patch introduces a device tree property "fsl,ping-during-suspend"
that can be used to enable ping on suspend support for these systems.

The MAX77714 is a MFD chip whose watchdog has the same programming
procedures as the MAX77620 watchdog, but most register offsets and bit
masks are different, as well as some features.
Support the MAX77714 watchdog by adding a variant description table holding
the differences.
All the features implemented by this driver are available on the MAX77714
except for the lack of a WDTOFFC bit. Instead of using a "HAS_*" flag we
handle this by holding in the cnfg_glbl2_cfg_bits struct field the bits
(i.e. the features) to enable in the CNFG_GLBL2 register. These bits differ
among the two models. This implementation allows to avoid any conditional
code, keeping the execution flow unchanged.

Realtek MIPS SoCs (platform name Otto) have a watchdog timer with
pretimeout notifitication support. The WDT can (partially) hard reset,
or soft reset the SoC.
This driver implements all features as described in the devicetree
binding, except the phase2 interrupt, and also functions as a restart
handler. The cpu reset mode is considered to be a "warm" restart, since
this mode does not reset all peripherals. Being an embedded system
though, the "cpu" and "software" modes will still cause the bootloader
to run on restart.
It is not known how a forced system reset can be disabled on the
supported platforms. This means that the phase2 interrupt will only fire
at the same time as reset, so implementing phase2 is of little use.

Exynos850 is a bit different from SoCs already supported in WDT driver:
- AUTOMATIC_WDT_RESET_DISABLE register is removed, so its value is
always 0; .disable_auto_reset callback is not set for that reason
- MASK_WDT_RESET_REQUEST register is replaced with
CLUSTERx_NONCPU_IN_EN register; instead of masking (disabling) WDT
reset interrupt it's now enabled with the same value; .mask_reset
callback is reused for that functionality though
- To make WDT functional, WDT counter needs to be enabled in
CLUSTERx_NONCPU_OUT register; it's done using .enable_counter
callback
Also Exynos850 has two CPU clusters, each has its own dedicated WDT
instance. Different PMU registers and bits are used for each cluster. So
driver data is now modified in probe, adding needed info depending on
cluster index passed from device tree.

Now that we can utilize the BCM7038_WDT driver, remove that one which
was not converted to the watchdog APIs. There are a couple of notable
differences with how the bcm7038_wdt driver proceeds:
- bcm63xx_wdt would register with the ad-hoc BCM63xx hardware timer API,
but this would only be used in order to catch the interrupt *before* a
SoC reset and make the kernel "die"
- bcm6xx_wdt would register a software timer and kick it every second in
order to pet the watchdog, thus offering a two step watchdog process.
This is not something that is brought over to the bcm7038_wdt as it is
deemed unnecessary. If user-space cannot pet the watchdog, but a
kernel timer can, the system is still in a bad shape anyway.
bcm7038_wdt is simpler in its behavior and behaves as a standard
watchdog driver and is not making use of any specific platform APIs,
therefore making it more maintainable and extensible.

Right now all devices supported in the driver have the single clock: it
acts simultaneously as a bus clock (providing register interface
clocking) and source clock (driving watchdog counter). Some newer Exynos
chips, like Exynos850, have two separate clocks for that. In that case
two clocks will be passed to the driver from the resource provider, e.g.
Device Tree. Provide necessary infrastructure to support that case:
- use source clock's rate for all timer related calculations
- use bus clock to gate/ungate the register interface
All devices that use the single clock are kept intact: if only one clock
is passed from Device Tree, it will be used for both purposes as before.

Now that PMU enablement code was extended for new Exynos SoCs, it
doesn't look very cohesive and consistent anymore. Do a bit of renaming,
grouping and style changes, to make it look good again. While at it, add
quirks documentation as well.
No functional change, just a refactoring commit.

On new Exynos chips (e.g. Exynos850) new CLUSTERx_NONCPU_OUT register is
introduced, where CNT_EN_WDT bit must be enabled to make watchdog
counter running. Add corresponding quirk and proper infrastructure to
handle that register if the quirk is set.
This commit doesn't bring any functional change to existing devices, but
merely provides an infrastructure for upcoming chips support.

On new Exynos chips (like Exynos850) the MASK_WDT_RESET_REQUEST register
is replaced with CLUSTERx_NONCPU_INT_EN, and its mask bit value meaning
was reversed: for new register the bit value "1" means "Interrupt
enabled", while for MASK_WDT_RESET_REQUEST register "1" means "Mask the
interrupt" (i.e. "Interrupt disabled").
Introduce "mask_reset_inv" boolean field in driver data structure; when
that field is "true", mask register handling function will invert the
value before setting it to the register.

When "tmr_atboot" module param is set, the watchdog is started in
driver's probe. In that case, also set WDOG_HW_RUNNING bit to let
watchdog core driver know it's running. This way watchdog core can kick
the watchdog for us (if CONFIG_WATCHDOG_HANDLE_BOOT_ENABLED option is
enabled), until user space takes control.
WDOG_HW_RUNNING bit must be set before registering the watchdog. So the
"tmr_atboot" handling code is moved before watchdog registration, to
avoid performing the same check twice. This is also logical because
WDOG_HW_RUNNING bit makes WDT core expect actually running watchdog.

Proper machine resets via da9062/da9063 PMICs are very tricky as they
require special i2c atomic transfers when interrupts are not available
anymore. This is also a reason why both PMIC's restart handlers do not
use regmap but instead opt for i2c_smbus_write_byte_data() which does
i2c transfer in atomic manner. Under the hood, this function tries to
obtain i2c bus lock with call to i2c_adapter_trylock_bus() which will
return -EAGAIN (-11) if lock is not available.
Since commit 982bb70517 ("watchdog: reset last_hw_keepalive time at
start") occasional restart handler failures with "Failed to shutdown
(err = -11)" error messages were observed, indicating that some
process is holding the i2c bus lock. Investigation into the matter
uncovered that sometimes during reboot sequence watchdog ping is issued
late into poweroff/reboot phase which did not happen before mentioned
commit (usually the watchdog ping happened immediately as commit message
suggests). As of now, when watchdog ping usually happens late into
poweroff/reboot stage when interrupts are not available anymore, i2c bus
lock cannot be released anymore and pending restart handler in turn
fails.
Thus, to prevent such late watchdog pings from happening ahead of
pending machine restart and consequently locking up the i2c bus, check
for system_state in watchdog ping handler and consequently do not send
pings anymore in case system_state > SYSTEM_RUNNING.

Migrating the driver lets us drop the watchdog misc device boilerplate
and reduces size by 285 lines. It also brings us support for new
functionality like CONFIG_WATCHDOG_HANDLE_BOOT_ENABLED.
This incurs a slight backwards-compatibility break, because the new
kernel watchdog API doesn't support unloading modules for drivers
whose watchdog hardware is reported to be running.
This means following scenario will be no longer supported:
- BIOS has enabled watchdog
- Module is loaded and unloaded without opening watchdog
- module_exit is expected to succeed and disable watchdog HW

Code for the common parts of the driver either uses watchdog_ as
prefix for the watchdog API or f71808e_ for everything else.
The driver now supports 9 more variants besides the f71808e,
so let's rename the common parts to start with fintek_wdt_ instead.
This makes code browsing easier, because it's readily apparent
that functions are not variant-specific. Some watchdog_-prefixed
functions remain, but these will be dropped altogether with the move
to the kernel watchdog API in a later commit.

This rewrites the IXP4xx watchdog driver as follows:
- Spawn the watchdog driver as a platform device from the timer
driver. It's one device in the hardware, and the fact that
Linux splits the handling into two different devices is
a Linux pecularity, and thus it becomes a Linux pecularity
to spawn a separate watchdog driver.
- Spawn the watchdog driver from the timer driver at probe().
This is well after the timer driver as actually registered and
started and we know the register base is available.
- Instead of looping back callbacks to the timer drivers for all
watchdog calls, pass the register base to the watchdog driver
and manage the registers there. The two drivers aren't even
interested in the same register so the spinlock is totally
surplus, delete it.
- Replace pretty much all of the content in the watchdog driver
with a simple, modern watchdog driver utilizing the watchdog
core instead of registering its own misc device and ioctl()
handling.
- Drop module parameters as the same already exist in the
watchdog core.
What remains is a slim elegant (IMO) watchdog driver using the
watchdog core, spawning from device tree or boardfile alike.

Some watchdog devices might conditionally support pretimeouts (e.g. if
an interrupt is exposed for the device) but some watchdog drivers might
still define the set_pretimeout operation (e.g. the mtk_wdt driver) and
indicate support at runtime through the WDIOF_PRETIMEOUT flag. If the
kernel is compiled with CONFIG_WATCHDOG_HRTIMER_PRETIMEOUT enabled,
watchdog_set_pretimeout would run the driver specific set_pretimeout
even if WDIOF_PRETIMEOUT is not set which might have unintended
consequences.

This was already attempted to fix via 1fccb73011: If the BIOS did not
enable TCO SMIs, the timer definitely needs to trigger twice in order to
cause a reboot. If TCO SMIs are on, as well as SMIs in general, we can
continue to assume that the BIOS will perform a reboot on the first
timeout.
QEMU with its ICH9 and related BIOS falls into the former category,
currently taking twice the configured timeout in order to reboot the
machine. For iTCO version that fall under turn_SMI_watchdog_clear_off,
this is also true and was currently only addressed for v1, irrespective
of the turn_SMI_watchdog_clear_off value.

This adds the option to use a hrtimer to generate a watchdog pretimeout
event for hardware watchdogs that do not natively support watchdog
pretimeouts.
With this enabled, all watchdogs will appear to have pretimeout support
in userspace. If no pretimeout value is set, there will be no change in
the watchdog's behavior. If a pretimeout value is set for a specific
watchdog that does not have built-in pretimeout support, a timer will be
started that should fire at the specified time before the watchdog
timeout would occur. When the watchdog is successfully pinged, the timer
will be restarted. If the timer is allowed to fire it will generate a
pretimeout event. However because a software timer is used, it may not
be able to fire in every circumstance.
If the watchdog does support a pretimeout natively, that functionality
will be used instead of the hrtimer.
The general design of this feaure was inspired by the software watchdog,
specifically its own pretimeout implementation. However the software
watchdog and this feature are completely independent. They can be used
together; with or without CONFIG_SOFT_WATCHDOG_PRETIMEOUT enabled.
The main advantage of using the hrtimer pretimeout with a hardware
watchdog, compared to running the software watchdog with a hardware
watchdog, is that if the hardware watchdog driver is unable to ping the
watchdog (e.g. due to a bus or communication error), then the hrtimer
pretimeout would still fire whereas the software watchdog would not.

During suspend/resume usecases and tests, it is common to see issues
such as lockups either in suspend path or resume path because of the
bugs in the corresponding device driver pm handling code. In such cases,
it is important that watchdog is active to make sure that we either
receive a watchdog pretimeout notification or a bite causing reset
instead of a hang causing us to hard reset the machine.
There are good reasons as to why we need this because:
* We can have a watchdog pretimeout governor set to panic in which
case we can have a backtrace which would help identify the issue
with the particular driver and cause a normal reboot.
* Even in case where there is no pretimeout support, a watchdog
bite is still useful because some firmware has debug support to dump
CPU core context on watchdog bite for post-mortem analysis.
* One more usecase which comes to mind is of warm reboot. In case we
hard reset the target, a cold reboot could be induced resulting in
lose of ddr contents thereby losing all the debug info.
Currently, the watchdog pm callback just invokes the usual suspend
and resume callback which do not have any special ordering in the
sense that a watchdog can be suspended before the buggy device driver
suspend callback and watchdog resume can happen after the buggy device
driver resume callback. This would mean that the watchdog will not be
active when the buggy driver cause the lockups thereby hanging the
system. So to make sure this doesn't happen, move the watchdog pm to
use late/early system pm callbacks which will ensure that the watchdog
is suspended late and resumed early so that it can catch such issues.
