Preparation to make task->signal immutable, no functional changes.
It doesn't matter which pointer we check under tasklist to ensure the task
was not released, ->signal or ->sighand. But we are going to make
->signal refcountable, change the code to use ->sighand.
Note: this code doesn't need this check and tasklist_lock at all, it
should be converted to use lock_task_sighand(). And, the code under

The Blackfin/FRV/SuperH guys all have the same exact FDPIC ptrace code in
their arch handlers (since they were probably copied & pasted). Since
these ptrace interfaces are an arch independent aspect of the FDPIC code,
unify them in the common ptrace code so new FDPIC ports don't need to copy

Some workloads that create a large number of small files tend to assign
too many pages to node 0 (multi-node systems). Part of the reason is that
the rotor (in cpuset_mem_spread_node()) used to assign nodes starts at
node 0 for newly created tasks.
This patch changes the rotor to be initialized to a random node number of
the cpuset.

On some platforms like DM355, the number of EDMA parameter slots available
for EDMA_SLOT_ANY usage are few. In such cases, if MMC/SD uses 16 slots
for each instance of MMC controller, then the number of slots available
for other modules will be very few.
By passing the number of EDMA slots to be used in MMC driver from platform
data, EDMA slots available for other purposes can be controlled.
Most of the platforms will not use this platform data variable. But on
DM355, as the number of EDMA resources available is limited, the number of
scatter- gather segments used inside the MMC driver can be 8 (passed as
platform data) instead of 16. On DM355, when the number of scatter-gather
segments was reduced to 8, I saw a performance difference of about
0.25-0.4 Mbytes/sec during write. Read performance variations were
negligible.

happens after calling the sa1111_wake(). This fixes two bugs:
1) This function called sa1111_wake() which tried to claim the same spinlock
the sa1111_resume() already claimed. This would result in certain deadlock.

This adjusts the clockrate for the MTU timer. On the different
UX500 variants this rate is different. The platform can also have
been set up at hardware initialization, bootloader or early init
for different clock speeds. To have the clock framework available
early so the timers can use them, the clock initialization for
Nomadik and ux500 is moved to IRQ init time. A custom per-clock
callback is added to handle special cases like this.
This solves a user-visible bug: without this patch the current
UX500 platforms will not be synchronized to wall-clock time and
the platform will drift in time.

The leds-gpio blink_set() callback follows the same prototype as the
main leds subsystem blink_set() one.
The problem is that to stop blink, normally, a leds driver does it
in the brightness_set() callback when asked to set a new fixed value.
However, with leds-gpio, the platform has no hook to do so, as this
later callback results in a standard GPIO manipulation.
This changes the leds-gpio specific callback to take a new argument
that indicates whether the LED should be blinking or not and in what
state it should be set if not. We also update the dns323 platform
which seems to be the only user of this so far.

This adds:
alias: devname:<name>
to some common kernel modules, which will allow the on-demand loading
of the kernel module when the device node is accessed.
Ideally all these modules would be compiled-in, but distros seems too
much in love with their modularization that we need to cover the common
cases with this new facility. It will allow us to remove a bunch of pretty
useless init scripts and modprobes from init scripts.
The static device node aliases will be carried in the module itself. The
program depmod will extract this information to a file in the module directory:
$ cat /lib/modules/2.6.34-00650-g537b60d-dirty/modules.devname
# Device nodes to trigger on-demand module loading.
microcode cpu/microcode c10:184
fuse fuse c10:229
ppp_generic ppp c108:0
tun net/tun c10:200
dm_mod mapper/control c10:235
Udev will pick up the depmod created file on startup and create all the
static device nodes which the kernel modules specify, so that these modules
get automatically loaded when the device node is accessed:
$ /sbin/udevd --debug
...
static_dev_create_from_modules: mknod '/dev/cpu/microcode' c10:184
static_dev_create_from_modules: mknod '/dev/fuse' c10:229
static_dev_create_from_modules: mknod '/dev/ppp' c108:0
static_dev_create_from_modules: mknod '/dev/net/tun' c10:200
static_dev_create_from_modules: mknod '/dev/mapper/control' c10:235
udev_rules_apply_static_dev_perms: chmod '/dev/net/tun' 0666
udev_rules_apply_static_dev_perms: chmod '/dev/fuse' 0666
A few device nodes are switched to statically allocated numbers, to allow
the static nodes to work. This might also useful for systems which still run
a plain static /dev, which is completely unsafe to use with any dynamic minor
numbers.
Note:
The devname aliases must be limited to the *common* and *single*instance*
device nodes, like the misc devices, and never be used for conceptually limited
systems like the loop devices, which should rather get fixed properly and get a
control node for losetup to talk to, instead of creating a random number of
device nodes in advance, regardless if they are ever used.
This facility is to hide the mess distros are creating with too modualized
kernels, and just to hide that these modules are not compiled-in, and not to
paper-over broken concepts. Thanks! :)

Linux does not define __BYTE_ORDER in its endian header files which makes
some header files bend backwards to get at the current endian. Lets
#define __BYTE_ORDER in big_endian.h/litte_endian.h to make it easier for
header files that are used in user space too.
In userspace the convention is that
1. _both_ __LITTLE_ENDIAN and __BIG_ENDIAN are defined,
2. you have to test for e.g. __BYTE_ORDER == __BIG_ENDIAN.

(*) The D command. Detach debugger.
(*) The H command. Handle setting the target thread by ignoring it.
(*) The qAttached command. Indicate we 'attached' to an existing process.
(*) The qC command. Indicate that the current thread ID is 0.
(*) The qOffsets command. Indicate that no relocation has been done.
(*) The qSymbol:: command. Indicate that we're not interested in looking up
any symbol addresses.
(*) The qSupported command. Indicate the maximum packet size and the fact
that reverse step and continue aren't supported.
(*) The vCont? command. Indicate that we don't support any of its variants.

Patch b7e2ecef92 (perf, trace: Optimize tracepoints by removing
IRQ-disable from perf/tracepoint interaction) made the
unfortunate mistake of assuming the world is x86 only, correct
this.
The problem was that perf_fetch_caller_regs() did
local_save_flags() into regs->flags, and I re-used that to
remove another local_save_flags(), forgetting !x86 doesn't have
regs->flags.
Do the reverse, remove the local_save_flags() from
perf_fetch_caller_regs() and let the ftrace site do the
local_save_flags() instead.

The dwarf unwinder ties in to an early initcall, but it's possible that
return_address() calls will be made prior to that. This implements some
additional error handling in to the dwarf unwinder as well as an exit
path in the return_address() case to bail out if the unwinder hasn't come
up yet.
This fixes a NULL pointer deref in early boot when mempool_alloc() blows
up on the not-yet-ready mempool via dwarf_unwind_stack().

This adds support kexec on FSL-BookE where the MMU can not be simply
switched off. The code borrows the initial MMU-setup code to create the
identical mapping mapping. The only difference to the original boot code
is the size of the mapping(s) and the executeable address.
The kexec code maps the first 2 GiB of memory in 256 MiB steps. This
should work also on e500v1 boxes.

When the SMP kernel decides to crash_kexec() the local APICs may have
pending interrupts in their vector tables.
The setup routine for the local APIC has a deficient mechanism for
clearing these interrupts, it only handles interrupts that has already
been dispatched to the local core for servicing (the ISR register) safely,
it doesn't consider lower prioritized queued interrupts stored in the IRR
register.
If you have more than one pending interrupt within the same 32 bit word in
the LAPIC vector table registers you may find yourself entering the IO
APIC setup with pending interrupts left in the LAPIC. This is a situation
for wich the IO APIC setup is not prepared. Depending of what/which
interrupt vector/vectors are stuck in the APIC tables your system may show
various degrees of malfunctioning. That was the reason why the
check_timer() failed in our system, the timer interrupts was blocked by
pending interrupts from the old kernel when routed trough the IO APIC.
Additional comment from Jiri Bohac:
==============
If this should go into stable release,
I'd add some kind of limit on the number of iterations, just to be safe from
hard to debug lock-ups:
+if (loops++ > MAX_LOOPS) {
+ printk("LAPIC pending clean-up")
+ break;
+}
while (queued);
with MAX_LOOPS something like 1E9 this would leave plenty of time for the
pending IRQs to be cleared and would and still cause at most a second of delay
if the loop were to lock-up for whatever reason.

During boot we change the mapping a few times until we have a "defined"
mapping. During this procedure a small 4KiB mapping is created and after
that one a 64MiB. Currently the offset of the 4KiB page in that we run
is zero because the complete startup up code is in first page which
starts at RPN zero.
If the code is recycled and moved to another location then its execution
will fail because the start address in 64 MiB mapping is computed
wrongly. It does not consider the offset to the page from the begin of
the memory.
This patch fixes this. Usually (system boot) r25 is zero so this does
not change anything unless the code is recycled.

length of PATH_MAX (1024). This causes the dest of the strncpy to be
padded with many NUL bytes.
This optimization mostly causes these NUL bytes to be padded with a call
to memset() which is already optimized for filling memory quickly, but
the hardware loop helps a little bit as well.
Boot time measured with 'loglevel=0' so UART speed doesn't get in the way.

The IADDR2DTEST() macro had some duplicated logic with bit 11 and some
incorrect comments, so scrub all of that.
In order to verify these aren't a problem (and won't be in the future),

Since 'extern inline' doesn't work correctly in the context of the Linux
kernel (too many overriding defines), move the string functions to normal
lib/ assembly files (like the existing mem funcs). This avoids the forced
inline all over the kernel and allows us to place them constantly in L1.
This also avoids some module failures when gcc inserts calls to string
functions but the kernel build system doesn't fully consult the library
archives.

NMIs are not safe to return from because many anomaly workarounds are
implemented by disabling interrupts. The NMI obviously violates this
assumption. Since the NMI watchdog never returns, we don't have to
worry about it clobbering RETN when it is being used as a scratch register
with the exception stack.

A few pseudo debug insns exist to make testing of simulators easier.
Since these don't actually exist in the hardware, we have to have the
exception handler take care of emulating these. This allows sim test
cases to be executed unmodified under Linux and thus simplify debugging
greatly.

.name, .match_table and .owner are duplicated in both of_platform_driver
and device_driver. This patch is a removes the extra copies from struct
of_platform_driver and converts all users to the device_driver members.
This patch is a pretty mechanical change. The usage model doesn't change
and if any drivers have been missed, or if anything has been fixed up
incorrectly, then it will fail with a compile time error, and the fixup
will be trivial. This patch looks big and scary because it touches so
many files, but it should be pretty safe.

GCC's __builtin_prefetch() was introduced a long time ago, all
supported GCC versions have it. Lets do what the big boys up in

provoke 'PREF 0,...' and 'PREF 1,...' instead of other prefetch
hints.
This allows for better code generation. In theory the existing

so there is really no point.

ar7_regiser_devices needs ar7_clocks_init to have been called first,
however clock.o is currently linked later due to its order in the Makefile,
therefore ar7_clocks_init always gets called later than ar7_register_devices
because both have the same initcall level. Fix this by moving
ar7_register_devices to the right initcall level.

Now that the split traps code has moved all the verbose output to the
trace.c file, we can unify all the CONFIG_DEBUG_VERBOSE handling. This
gets rid of much of the crappy ifdef forest and enables usage of normal
pr_xxx functions so checkpatch stops complaining.

The current kernel/traps.c file has grown a bit unwieldy as more debugging
functionality has been added over time, so split it up into more logical
files. There should be no functional changes here, just minor whitespace
tweaking. This should make future extensions easier to manage.

This patch removes a custom GPIO wakeup API which allowed GPIOs to act
as wakeup sources, which are not configured as Interrupts.
This API is a leftover from the time before irq_wake was established.
From now on people must use enable_irq_wake(GPIO_IRQx) and the GPIO in
question needs to be configured as Interrupt.

I believe support was disabled due to issues with earlier versions of
the board/processor. At worst, adding the ports back into the device
tree should result in enabling ports that don't work on older systems,
so the default should be to enable them.

This is started as swsusp_32.S modifications, but the amount of #ifdefs
made the whole file horribly unreadable, so let's put the support into
its own separate file.
The code should be relatively easy to modify to support 44x BookEs as
well, but since I don't have any 44x to test, let's confine the code to
FSL BookE. (The only FSL-specific part so far is 'flush_dcache_L1'.)

'protect4gb' boot parameter was introduced to avoid allocating dma
space acrossing 4GB boundary in 2007 (the commit
569975591c).
In 2008, the IOMMU was fixed to use the boundary_mask parameter per
device properly. So 'protect4gb' workaround was removed (the
383af9525b). But somehow I messed the
'protect4gb' boot parameter that was used to enable the
workaround.

At the moment only the RAS code uses event-sources interrupts (for EPOW
events and internal errors) so request_ras_irqs() (which actually requests
the event-sources interrupts) is found in ras.c and is static.
We want to be able to use event-sources interrupts in other pseries code,
so let's rename request_ras_irqs() to request_event_sources_irqs() and
move it to event_sources.c.
This will be used in an upcoming patch that adds support for IO Event
interrupts that come through as event sources.

I've been told that the architected way to determine we are in form 1
affinity mode is by reading the ibm,architecture-vec-5 property which
mirrors the layout of the fifth vector of the ibm,client-architecture
structure.
Eventually we may want to parse the ibm,architecture-vec-5 and create
FW_FEATURE_* bits.

I noticed /proc/sys/vm/zone_reclaim_mode was 0 on a ppc64 NUMA box. It gets
enabled via this:
/*
* If another node is sufficiently far away then it is better
* to reclaim pages in a zone before going off node.
*/
if (distance > RECLAIM_DISTANCE)
zone_reclaim_mode = 1;
Since we use the default value of 20 for REMOTE_DISTANCE and 20 for
RECLAIM_DISTANCE it never kicks in.
The local to remote bandwidth ratios can be quite large on System p
machines so it makes sense for us to reclaim clean pagecache locally before
going off node.
The patch below sets a smaller value for RECLAIM_DISTANCE and thus enables
zone reclaim.

Right now if we want to busy loop and not give up any time to the hypervisor
we put a very large value into smt_snooze_delay. This is sometimes useful
when running a single partition and you want to avoid any latencies due
to the hypervisor or CPU power state transitions. While this works, it's a bit
ugly - how big a number is enough now we have NO_HZ and can be idle for a very
long time.
The patch below makes smt_snooze_delay signed, and a negative value means loop
forever:
echo -1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/smt_snooze_delay
This change shouldn't affect the existing userspace tools (eg ppc64_cpu), but
I'm cc-ing Nathan just to be sure.

I'm not sure why we have code for parsing an ibm,smt-snooze-delay OF
property. Since we have a smt-snooze-delay= boot option and we can
also set it at runtime via sysfs, it should be safe to get rid of
this code.

When we are crashing, the crashing/primary CPU IPIs the secondaries to
turn off IRQs, go into real mode and wait in kexec_wait. While this
is happening, the primary tears down all the MMU maps. Unfortunately
the primary doesn't check to make sure the secondaries have entered
real mode before doing this.
On PHYP machines, the secondaries can take a long time shutting down
the IRQ controller as RTAS calls are need. These RTAS calls need to
be serialised which resilts in the secondaries contending in
lock_rtas() and hence taking a long time to shut down.
We've hit this on large POWER7 machines, where some secondaries are
still waiting in lock_rtas(), when the primary tears down the HPTEs.
This patch makes sure all secondaries are in real mode before the
primary tears down the MMU. It uses the new kexec_state entry in the
paca. It times out if the secondaries don't reach real mode after
10sec.

In kexec_prepare_cpus, the primary CPU IPIs the secondary CPUs to
kexec_smp_down(). kexec_smp_down() calls kexec_smp_wait() which sets
the hw_cpu_id() to -1. The primary does this while leaving IRQs on
which means the primary can take a timer interrupt which can lead to
the IPIing one of the secondary CPUs (say, for a scheduler re-balance)
but since the secondary CPU now has a hw_cpu_id = -1, we IPI CPU
-1... Kaboom!
We are hitting this case regularly on POWER7 machines.
There is also a second race, where the primary will tear down the MMU
mappings before knowing the secondaries have entered real mode.
Also, the secondaries are clearing out any pending IPIs before
guaranteeing that no more will be received.
This changes kexec_prepare_cpus() so that we turn off IRQs in the
primary CPU much earlier. It adds a paca flag to say that the
secondaries have entered the kexec_smp_down() IPI and turned off IRQs,
rather than overloading hw_cpu_id with -1. This new paca flag is
again used to in indicate when the secondaries has entered real mode.
It also ensures that all CPUs have their IRQs off before we clear out
any pending IPI requests (in kexec_cpu_down()) to ensure there are no
trailing IPIs left unacknowledged.

Currently for kexec the PTE tear down on 1TB segment systems normally
requires 3 hcalls for each PTE removal. On a machine with 32GB of
memory it can take around a minute to remove all the PTEs.
This optimises the path so that we only remove PTEs that are valid.
It also uses the read 4 PTEs at once HCALL. For the common case where
a PTEs is invalid in a 1TB segment, this turns the 3 HCALLs per PTE
down to 1 HCALL per 4 PTEs.
This gives an > 10x speedup in kexec times on PHYP, taking a 32GB
machine from around 1 minute down to a few seconds.

This adds plpar_pte_read_4_raw() which can be used read 4 PTEs from
PHYP at a time, while in real mode.
It also creates a new hcall9 which can be used in real mode. It's the
same as plpar_hcall9 but minus the tracing hcall statistics which may
require variables outside the RMO.

On large machines we are running out of room below 256MB. In some cases we
only need to ensure the allocation is in the first segment, which may be
256MB or 1TB.
Add slb0_limit and use it to specify the upper limit for the irqstack and
emergency stacks.
On a large ppc64 box, this fixes a panic at boot when the crashkernel=
option is specified (previously we would run out of memory below 256MB).
